Tank Q:What Weap Would You Use?

Ok so i seen many different tanks(pure end) either using 2h or 1h/shield so i deicided to make a poll to see how many ppl use what. For me im using 2h sword till 40 because the lvl 20 and 30 shield r sooo ugly:p but ill change to shield and 1 h when i hit 40

Agreed. End adds to your blocking percentage...the chance that you will not be hit 'at all'. This is increased by a shield, without one you are simply not taking advantage of the blocking percentage given by raising end because YOU CANT BLOCK WITHOUT A SHIELD SILLY!!!! *ahem* Sorry about that:p But come on, its common sense. If your all end then of course you use a shield, if your some hybrid part spr part str monstrosity then feel free to use that 2 hander...An axe would be the obvious choice...but never for a full end tank, unless your soloing, then by all means use a 2 hander.

You could buy a 2h sword with like +20 end, but getting a shield is way easier.

Shield is the only way to go when tanking. The level 30 shield adds more defence than the level 40 torso armour, the level 40 shield adds as much defence as the level 60 armour.

At level 59, going into battle without a shield is worse than going into battle without your boots and trousers. And it grants you 3% block, just for holding it. With 50 Endurance, that's 8%, 2 hits out of every 25 are completely ignored. Use the +20% block skill, and it's 7/25, no matter what that hit might be, from slime squishy swipe to minidragon megabreath.

Since the 1h is also faster than the alternatives, and more aggro is generated by weak, swift strikes than heavy, slow strikes, that too makes the sword/shield combo better for tanking than its overcompensating brethren.

Technically, If you go with full END you should naturally go with the One Hand and Shield.


If you got +25 SPR, and rest in END, go with Axe.


Anything else, its your choice.

I am doing the same with my Fighter character.
But not only the shields are ugly the swords are too.
Axe is too slow and also not very attractive.
Personally I like the 2 handed sword and mine is a +7 so it does quite a bit of damage.
When I get to level 40 (at my rate it will be a while) I plan to go for the sword and shield.

Well really it is a matter of preference and it also depends greatly on the situation. I am a pure END tank and when I solo, or just duo with a cleric, I usually use my axe atm, but whenever there is a situation where there are going to be lots of mobs on me I immediatly switch to my sword and shield for my block rate and def. Again it is up to you but this works for me so maybe it can work for you. Also in case you were wondering I am building my tank to be the best AoE tank ever...Devastate here I come, lots of empowerment points waiting for you...

I use an Axe for soloing, and 1h w/ shield for tanking in party's.
