Aren't clerics useless?

I'm new to this game and i'm probably wrong, but aren't they useless? I was just thinking, if someone needs a heal they can use hp stones. What are they for?

It makes it cheaper for a party to have a cleric because they can heal when you don't hae hp pots. They can revive people, add buffs. They are essential to any party. A must in this game to be able to save money.

If he is serious, I sincerely hope he makes it as a Fighter or something to the CP or Uruga level of play...gets into an AoE group and doesn't grab a cleric. Let's see the stones keep him alive. Rofl.

No, clerics aren't useless. A stone's cooldown is slower than a cleric's heal. At times, you can get mobbed by 324380934 monsters at once and you can't survive without a cleric's heals. Then again, if you chose to be in a spawn point where the mobs can gang bang you, you would have brought a cleric along would you?

As you are still new to this game, I'm guessing you haven't reached the point where mobs are aggressive yet, no? So you probably wouldn't know.

A cleric that doesn't heal/buff their party when needed is useless though. ^^;

He is obviously new to an MMO scene and hasn't seen the small capabilities a HP Stone will have in the future. You cannot play efficiently without a cleric to heal. Healing Stones/Pots get 'very' expensive mid-game and you need to use a load per fight.

Having a Cleric who can spam heal and only use 1 stone every few minutes is much easier on everyone. Just don't expect them to always land a heal - use your hp stones/pots wisely in a group situation if you think the Cleric cannot get a heal on you fast enough.

That said it wasn't worded that bad, should have just put "I'm new" so these people wouldn't jump the gun and assume you're a Cleric-Hater since we get a lot of that already. Although they shouldn't have done that anyways... it just shows how sad they are.

in all mmorpgs i've played, even in console rpgs, cleric/healers are like the backbone to a party/group, true they may not do as much dmg but cleric can stay alive alot easier then any other class, though in some mmorpg thats not always true......

one thing i like when i started a cleric, i never once had to ask for a party in KQ lol, i get picked for party very fast :P

ok just put it simple there are games where healers are useless like Ragnarok ONline. LOL You don't need a priest because all they do is heal. They do have buffs but they don't last but like 3 min. THis game the buffs lasts and hour and without clerics i wouldn't be lvl 41. I am a lvl 41 cleric lol.

Clerics bear many, many advantages over stoning.

#1: Heal. For 4 SP, a cleric can restore 110 HP. At maximum level, Heal restores less than a tier 3 health potion, which restores 1300 HP, and costs anywhere from 300-500 copper per potion, and has a four second cooldown or more. The rub is that a maximum level heal costs the cleric 68 SP, restores 1100 HP per use, and has a 2.1 second cooldown, almost twice as fast, and obscenely cheap.
Against any boss, mob (when monsters aggro, situations where a large number of enemies are targetting a character arise frequently), or epicly high damage enemy that outlevels you massively, combined stones and potions will frequently not restore enough HP to keep you alive. Only a cleric, or perhaps two clerics, will be able to keep you alive.

#2: Party Buffs. No party is complete without a cleric. Obviously, heal is the primary reason, but from level 9 upwards, merely by being in the party, the cleric is boosting the attack power and defence of every single member of the party, merely by being there. This bonus increases for each member, such that a full five person squad at low levels is gaining more benefit from the cleric than they are from their own weapons. With maximum level Protect and Resist active and a full party, you'll take a hundred damage less from some enemies, whilst dealing an extra 50 damage on every single hit.

#3: Endure Buff. The most famous part of being a high level cleric: Endure. Add 410 HP, 390 SP to the maximum HP/SP of a single person for an hour. The difference between being able to beat an enemy and to be one-shotted by them. Fight longer, need to rest less, tank bosses like you couldn't before. Endure is god and win. People hunt down clerics in the middle of nowhere to ask for it.

#4: And the rest. Clerics can cure almost every DoT debuff there is, make you invincible, and unleash more healing power over a five second period than is reasonably fair. They can tank like a fighter, they can help with the damage. Until level 59, they're pretty much awesome in every way, you'll always want a cleric in your group, cause they rock.

You can use it on yourself as well.

And yeah, try partying with a cleric and tell that cleric not to heal or buff you and see how well you do. I'd like to see the results ^.^. I think the clerics play an important role in the game as well as the other classes.

please gain exp and explore other areas than forest of mist...
when you (if you) are lucky to gain your lv20 title..you will have to fight yourself..

All Cleric buffs can be used on the cleric/High Cleric itself, except Revive and the Sacrifical skill.

Clerics are very useful. Especially in KQ's. Or even in the upper levels when you're fighting something with a group thats not within your levels. Like level 40s or even 30s heading to Uruga or even AEW. ^^ It's also useful when you have a AOE party where, tanker grabs lots of mobs on him, healers heal, mages/archers run around doing AOE attacks~

Anyway what i observed is slight too big overconfidence about clerics skills.
I am fighter but couple of times i watch a cleric who rusch agains group of monsters and final was easy to predict...

Sometimes monster can afflict +50 and more damage in one hit (B.H, M.T, not to mention higest lvl areas), and when attack a large group then even a high skilled cleric have no chance.

Thats i cannot understand when for example lvl 15 cleric go to B.H and engage a group of gold slimes only to be "grounded" by them 5 min later.
Every skills have a limit, like anciet sentence say:

"Nec Hercules contro plures" :D ( Even Hercules a** agains mob mass.)

meh. i love to duo with a mage or fighter. solo'ing as a cleric takes a LONG time once you hit mid 30's. once you hit 40 you want a party or it will take you way to long to level.

Clerics are not useless, they are the biggest essential backbone. Now I'm an archer because I like them better but thats besides the case.

In the Pirate KQ, I was actually in a group of 15 people none clerics. We reached to the first fake Mara and Marlone. We took out Marlone and lost 5 people(both hearts gone) We passed Mara then just tryed to complete the quest. Apparently it was also everyones first time not fighting the fake Mara and when we reached the end we lost another 3 people and another 2 quiting. We made it back to Mara and we all died.

Now that would've been completely different with a cleric believe me. And I don't really want to go to what would've happened with a cleric, but if you ever played that KQ you would know.

leveling solo as a cleric takes FOREVER >.< specially once you hit 40+. i still solo a lot (actually usually) but if i can find a good party im always happy to join. well, outside of guild parties anyways.

Once you hit 50 I found solo goes a lot faster, or it seemed to at least. Especially on Orc's with a decent hammer. However, the 40's were indeed hell for me to solo through, and I exclusivly solo. The 50's get you a damage boost, armor boost, and new bash/protect at 51 so it all gets better.

It obviously isn't as fast as a Mage but it is nicely paced and very cheap.

I have no STR points either - or STR gear. So I imagine if you had that solo'ing would be even easier. And yeah - if Bleed/Trip did something other than suck a load of SP to do weak damage, it might be easier on us. Shame they don't work yet...

Clerics provide buffs, heal others AT NO COST XD, can fight fairly well, and can revive people. Furthermore there's a rumor that they can rev themselves at level 60 or 70 O.o

not true...i have gone solo quite a bit and am still alive and kicking..lvl 32 cleric baby...the key to staying alive is : cast invincible, then cast restore, use bash repeatedly, heal, restore, bash, stone, repeat...works for me:D

Soloing as a cleric is just a tad slower, do to lower Aim and Str. As for the question 'Aren't clerics useless?' No, we are not. We provide you with an extra boost to your stats which really comes in handy, we heal you when you're busy fighting, we rez you when you die, all we ask for is for you to kill what is needed. We aren't selfish, some of us even sit at maps just waiting for someone to ask for a rez, or buffs. We are essential to any party.

To add to that, if any of you need help with anything or just need a cleric feel free to whisper me. Unless I am busy I will gladly help you out, even newbies. They are the best to help out. :D

A lot of people have responded already but I can't help but give you my own opinion too. ^^

clerics aren't useless; having played a mage till late 30s, and comparing it now to cleric, they are very useful when they do their job as healers and are very much welcomed in parties.

The reason for this is that stones and hp pots are designed to be used in emergency cases only thats why it costs a lot. Their slow cooldown makes them ineffective compared to a cleric's heal against monsters that deal lots of damage. the heal of a cleric also upgrades in its skill so it becomes more useful as it can heal more HP with the same cooldown, which 2.1 secs for me since I have it empowered.

Now another use for clerics is the buffs, they make the lives of other players convenient and easy with their buffs! ^^

However, I personally believe the clerics are not the best class, though they are the easiest class to play during solo. But a cleric's job in a party is not so easy :) As for the issues raised on other classes' usefulness, they have their own purpose, and having a party with complete set of classes will always be the best! ^^

Best is relative and dependent on your personal definition. :) So as far as my definition of "Best" (I see it as something "fun") I believe mages are the best class as they are a challenging class to play. ^_^

Mages can dispell the annoying travel speed debuff you get as a lower level, as well as the evasive and crit rate debuffs you get as a higher level.

Fighters can stun someone else's mob without stealing their kill credit nor any of their exp. Granted, not many do it (in fact, Redem of Apoline is the only one I've seen do it), but it can be done.

1. clerics is best for solo because they do decent damage if u build right, the survive mobs easier than anyother class, makes most money in the game, easiest to lv but longest to lv if solo. ( botters only use clerics)
2. u only have like arround 100 stones at most cleric can heal for infinite times wit the requirement of resting. heal is faster cooldown then hp stones or pots.
3 they can revive so once ur dead u depend on them if u dont want to go back to town and then go all the way back there.
4. who ever says clerics are useless in this game deserves to be shot and have their ***** shove in their mouth and their *** hole super glued to their mouth so they eat wut they *****.

Hey I am a cleric, I can survive HUUUUGe mobs and kill all the monsters that attacked me. I constantly use bash, restore and heal on myself, along with party buffs like the other people said. Useless? If we're so useless, then don't ask us for a reviving again! Clerics are like the crutch of the party, they hold up the other party members through buffs and heals, revivals too.

Not to say other classes are not as useful, everyone has a weakness that another class fills in, that's the reason for parties. ONe fighter used stun on an enemy, but didn't KS, in Teva, like the other person said. Fighters have amazing attack and defense, and can win huge battles when backed up by clerics, mages and archers. Archers and mages can pull enemies, fire from a distance while a fighter tanks. Mages cast dispel, like the other person said, which clerics can't do. They are capable of dealing massive magic damage

Eheh yah being a cleric in a party is hard, I gotta mind my own hp and sp, while minding other party members HP. It's really hard sometimes.

I'm new to this game and i'm probably wrong, but aren't they useless? I was just thinking, if someone needs a heal they can use hp stones. What are they for?

Without clerics, all the other classes would FALL miserably. We are the backbone of the party, basically. U'll find parties most often shouting to look for clerics. Which I find hilarious XD.
I had a mage and a fighter but decided clerics are better.

u must be a real dumb@ss. the cleric is the backbone of any party without a cleric then u cant go anywhere, once the cleric goes everybody goes down. so my suggestion to u is give clerics more credit then what u already are because one day they could save your life and any exp u might lose.
