Lately, I've been reading about the epic war on whether Battle Clerics (clerics that pose as fighters) or Clankers (cleric tank) or Party Clerics (healbots) are the way to go and right now I'm really confused on whether I should be a Battle Cleric or a Party Cleric or a Clanker. Please vote and leave a comment on which in your opinion is better.

The BEST type of cleric is the one who can judge what to do in a given situation and then fill the role.
I shall decline to vote. No style is better than the other. People can't vote for your playstyle to be a certain way...everyone needs to figure out his or her own playstyle from within the game.

I emphatically agree with taridragon. She couldn't have said it better.
Try out the different play styles of the cleric, and see which best fits you. I will say that clanking falls under the category of full end and empowered heals, just like the party cleric. Try making a STR cleric, with empowerments on bash and such, and make a END cleric, with empowerments on heal and such.
Or you could make a hybrid of the two and be a flexible Utility Cleric. Like taridragon said, these clerics are often the best.
If there was a Utility cleric option, I would vote on that one. The job of the cleric is to protect the party, by any means necessary. Or if you solo, every man/woman for him/herself.
As for me, I will remain as a healbot. I fail at offensive cleric tactics, lol. >.>

hm....I would say a Battle cleric and a Clanker are very similar but I agree taridragon on this one that the best cleric is one who can judge what to do in a given situation and then fill the role. ( thats so going in my siggy btw ^^)

No vote from me, either, as what's better or worse depends on what's happening at the time.
What if you're in a KQ and no Fighters signed up? You'd need to be able to clank. What if two fighters and two mages want you to be the fifth member of their Tower party? Best to be a healbot in that situation. Every party is different, every quest is different, and every situation is different. You have to be able to fill whatever role is needed. So there's no one "better" or "worse" overall. It's just a matter of, Okay, what does the team need most out of me?

I will agree that it depends on the situation. There are plently of times you can fight alongside everyone with no worries if you are skilled enough. And really I do think that clanking is something that both types or cleric can do well. Usually a more solo cleric is a str build but has the probability of some +9 gears, and party healers are usually end builds so they both can take hits well. Cleric is one of the most versatile classes in the game. Yes everyone can solo or party, but within the party situation a clerics "Role" is much less defined than the other classes, at least in my opinion.

The only thing I have against battle clerics is that most can't heal other people if you party them. Like, they have no clue that they should be healing whoever is taking aggro/damage. When I was on my cleric, we partied another cleric for DT...it turned out she was a battle cleric, so it was pretty much just me healing everyone else. Its just frustrating :c
Clanking, hm, there is nothing wrong with clanks as long as they can truly hold aggro. I was a clank myself at lower levels. I've clanked everything in MD since lv46, all the way through kkp. Clanks die out later in the game because it becomes almost impossible to hold aggro off of other classes. Show me a cleric that can clank in a charmed mage's aoes and i'll change my opinion.
Party cleric, nothing really wrong with these, except some are really slow with heals, and at times when you're only fighting one mob, they don't even bother attacking. They just wait until the mob dies, even though the tank is only getting hit for 300's.
But yea, I agree, the best cleric is the one who can act accordingly based on the situation.

First let me say that I consider myself a Battle Cleric but I do not "pose as a fighter". I know my attacks are weaker than both Fighters and Mages. However, when there is no fighter available, I can fill in the role of a tank ... just not quite as well. I can also fall back and let others take the damage and heal .... but my healing is quite as powerful as a party clerics spells.
You have to base it on your style of play.
If you want to mainly solo without a party .... then Battle Cleric (attack/defence type)
If you want to mainly be in a support role ... then Party Cleric (spirit/endurance type)
Both can do the function like the other ... but because of the empowerments, each perform their chosen role slight better than the other.
Battle Clerics = Clankers in my way of thinking. Battle Clerics/Clankers rely on Str and End to allow them to complete quests without relying as on parties as much.Party Clerics can still solo ... they just kill slower than Battle Clerics.
I have an unconventional build which has worked out so far ... we will see if it continues to work out.

Is your server always busy? If yes, go with the party cleric. If no, go with the battle cleric.
Do you play the game when there are lots of players on the server? If yes, go with the party cleric. If no, go with the battle cleric.
If you choose to become a battle cleric, learn to heal others as well. Healing is your main skill even if you become a battle cleric. If you want to be a clanker, learn to heal yourself a lot whether you need the heal or not. It's the only way to hold the aggro. If you choose to become a full time healer, learn how to find a party and find a partner that you can duo with.
No matter which one you want to be, go after a balanced build. Your main should be END. And then adjust STR and SPR according to your playing style.

Oh, kk so basically I have to experiment and see what type of cleric fits me best.

Well, yes...but you also need to be able to fill whatever role is asked of you.
Remember, we're a support class, and not every party is going to have the same idea of what "support" means. A trio of higher-level fighters might want a healbot, but a trio of lower-level mages might prefer a clank. So it's not so much experimenting as it is getting to experience it, because at some point, you will likely be asked to do all three.
Versatility is the word, I guess.

im still new to the fiesta community, my 1st char is a cleric and i did some studying on the forums here and decided to build mine with 25 spr, 15 dex, rest on str. i kinda accidentaly put 1 on int, oh well. i'll use clothes and weps for end if i can. it's working very well so far for all roles, ima 24 right now, high strength and spr makes it a well rounded build. fiesta not my 1st mmo, and i always pick healer if availible. reason why no end? heal button.

You'll get a skill reset scroll for 10 points at level 30, you'll be able to take away that 1 int.

It all depends on what you need to do at a particular time.
If you are in a party - please heal. You shouldn't need to tank unless there is no tank - but even then you can't actually keep agro because you lack the dmg and the mocking skills.
If you are soloing - It sucks but you're going to be clanking/battling
In my humble opinion the best builds are pure END clerics and END/SPR clerics. Why? With all that END, even if you do get attacked you can just stone yourself while you heal the squishy members. with END/SPR in the party you still have pretty good end and enough sp so you aren't burning through stones. Also you have the extra crit and m.def which is very nice.
Having a "battle cleric" is great if you find yourself soloing often. ATM i'm adding some STR to my cleric build because I find that I solo so much (bc of fail parties eg: a non-mocking tank). I do miss my END/Clanking ability, but that isnt my primary role ig is it?

Tbh, I think that clanks & battle clerics are suitable for lower levels, but at higher levels a battle cleric or clank is virtually useless. When grinding I hardly ever have a chance/need to attack anything or take agro, and if I rly do find myself having to take agro in a party it's mostly likely not a very good one to begin with. I can understand how having higher strength would be useful in some situations, but at high (and even lower levels) you will generally not find yourself having to solo much when not questing, and a cleric is a mainly party-oriented class and your main focus should be staying alive so that you will be able to protect your party and therefore end/spr are my favorite cleric stats. Clerics do take a little patience to level, but I find that's it's a extremely fun class.
