Just started today, like many of you.
Made a character, but am utterly confused as to most of the mechanics.
I'm trying to make some friends so that I don't stumble into this game blind and alone ;)

Anyway, if you want to chat, my in-game character is Avalanche.

There isnt a complete guide made for Solstice yet, since there was only a month of closed beta. Nothing beats experience tho!

I played Zero Online when it started alpha, and you got to level 20 in like, five minutes. Of course, then you hit "the wall", and have to grind for hours and hours once you reach level 100-ish. I imagine it's the same here.

Are you sure you're not looking at 'view friends who are online' list?

the first ten lvls are a tutorial of the games mechanics, since I already did that during closed beta didn't really need to read all that and I also remembered where everything was.

Wrong. You can put w/e you want until lvl 16, 45, 66, 80 etc. Those levels are the levels you achieve to change your job. Once applying for the job change, they have the option "stat reset" so you can put your stat points in the correct attribute to change jobs.

Once you know what to do it doesn't take all that long to get started and grind for a half hour or more.

I had more than an hour. I was one of the 5 people who were playing before everyone else signed on. I had 2 hours before they shut the servers down. Which explains how i got to lvl20 so quick. Either way, the first 10 take less than 5 minutes to do. Seeing some of us were in CBT, we didn't have to read the tutorial guides. We already knew where to go :O

its very easy to get level 11 like *snap*

the tutorial could take someone 1/2 hour to do it.. or it could take someone all night... Its just how fast you learn things :)

If the tutorial takes someone that long to do imma ask them to find something else to do with there time because it shouldnt take more then 15minutes if that

Dude, in the CB it took me almost 2 hours to do the tutorial because it was very confusing :/

If they fixed the wording it might take 15min....

well they're pretty self explanatory, but
squire -> guess you can say they're like swordsman; tend to be the ones that have a lot of strength
apprentice -> magic users of the game; uses spells to attack
neophyte -> kinda like thieves; for those of you who want fast attackers
acolyte -> the healers of the game

I believe you change to the first class at lvl 16 still

Damage is based on SO many factors in this game.
Expereince is the best teacher.

Squire. They're basically the melee class aside from Neophytes. Squires to the most damage when they hit higher job change. Well actually i cant really confirm that. Just most MMORPG's the swordsman does most damage. Hmm, we'll see though once someone gets to lvl 66+

depends on how you build your characters....I had a Squire (it was called Fighter in CBT) that did a lot of damage, but she was slow lol (I didn't add much to her agility stat)...my Apprentice (it was called Magician in CBT) did a lot of damage with the starting skills ('cause I added a lot to her intelligence stat)...

so just experiment with different builds :)

I'd just hate to make a class, work towards it, and find its a dud later on. I haaaate that. And then I'd have to reroll...choose another dud! Gah! Ah well, I'm leaning towards Neophyte.
