Part 1
Location: Roumen
A low level fighter can be seen fighting slimes.

After delivering his final slash, Jason turned to Kane in Anticipation.
"Well?" he asked.
Kane gave a look of disappointment. "You're slipping, Jason. You're depending too much on you're shield and not enough on your weapon."
"Am not! Besides its not like these weaklings pose much threat anyways," he burst out.
"Calm down," he said teasingly. "If you can't take a simple piece of criticism, you'll never make it through the academy."
Jason's expression changed quickly. "You're right," he realized. I can't believe tomorrow will be my first day as a warrior in training."
"Technically you'll be a fighter. You won't be a warrior unless you reach level 60 and the quest to achieve that isn't as simple as these slimes," informed Kane pointing to the deceased Slime.
"A simple technicality. I've been training all day so I've got to be at least 20 by now!"
Kane chuckled. "Jay, I've been training longer than you have and I'm only level 18. By the looks of it, I'd say your about level 2."
"Level 2!!" Jason shouted shockingly.
"Maybe 3. You won't really know Until Ruby gives you all your gear to head into the fields. She'll be your master until you graduate at level 20."
"What happens at level 20?" Jason asked.
"You'll become a CleverFighter, which will give you stronger sword skills," Kane replied.
"I see... Kane, mind if I ask you a question?"
"Shoot."
" Why'd you join the academy?" he asked with a serious look.
Kane gave Jason an intense look. "To become stronger. My goal is to reach level 100 and join the Guardian Magi to keep Isya safe."
"You want to be a GM?" Jason asked.
"All my life." he admitted.
There's a short pause where only the wind is heard.
"Pffffft, that's lame. I just want to pawn some noobs who are lower than me."
"Said the level 2."
"That's just your opinion!

Part 2
Location: Roumen
Several Clerics and Fighter in training are are formed in a crowd.

"Can't believe you showed up on time."
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
Before he could answer, Kane was interrupted by a demanding voice.
"Kane, leave the recruits be!"
A woman dressed in full armor headed over to the crowd giving looks of intimidation as she passed.
"Well, that's my queue to to get out of here."
"You're leaving already?"
"I have an errand to run in Sand beach, but I'll be back in plenty of time to watch you crash and burn."
Ruby's voice grew louder. "I said NOW KANE!"
Kane quickly fled the scene leaving Jason both confused and slightly frightened.
"I just want to make this clear. I hate training newbies like yourselves, but since no one else would be able to prepare you for the dangers that await you in the fields, that task falls is left with me. My name is Skill Master Ruby and for the first 20 levels you're all my pack mules when it comes to quests. I will work you like dogs day in and day out. If you don't like the way this is going so far, you're more than welcome to leave. "
What began as a unit of twenty quickly dissolved into six people. 3 males and 3 females.
Ruby somehow seemed relieved.
"To be honest, this was more than I expected. Since I never bothered to remember your names, when pointed to, you will state your Name, Class, and something you thing is interesting about yourself. But since your only recruits I won't hold my breath. Let's start with you and head clockwise."
Ruby pointed to a fully suited boy with a glowing sword.
He stepped forward and handed her a business card.
"Alpha. Fighter. Enhancement and Loans. I'm probably a bit ahead of the class, but I've been a bit pre-occupied with my work to actually check."
Ruby looked unimpressed.
"I'll be the judge of that."
She held what appeared to be some sort of scanner in front of him and said; "Level 4. Higher than most recruits but not enough to miss Basic Training. Next"
Since there were only six it didn't take long for introductions. Other than Alpha, there was
Courtney, (A studious female cleric with hopes of heading into the field of medicine)
Sam, (The only female Fighter who strives to prove she's more skilled than any man)
Ried, (The only male Cleric that showed up and doesn't seem very enthusiastic about anything)
Allison, (A very Independent female cleric, who seems kind enough but wishes to do all quests alone)
and finally Jason, who thought to hard about his intro that he was skipped.
Each student was handed a bag with 2 high-tech wrist cuffs and a starting shield and weapon.
"Listen closely, because I won't repeat myself. When in the field, monsters will attack you and you will eventually lose HP. This much is Basic. Each cuff has a different property in order to help you last longer. The Left Cuff is filled with micro HP stones that when pressed, will shoot a shot of adrenaline through your body, replenishing a certain amount of HP. The Right Cuff is filled with micro SP Stones that when pressed, will shoot a shot of mana through your body replenishing SP. On the reverse side shows your EXP status on your process to leveling. The starting weapon is mandatory unless you have your own.
You're first task will be a 2 person job. Three Fighter-Cleric Teams will be sent to the Forest of Tides to do a little monster clean-up."
She looked at Allison. "This Partnership is not optional. Any questions?"
All students remained baffled with their weapons and quick survival description.
"Good. Alpha is with Courntey, Sam is with Ried, and Jason is with Allison. I advise the Fighters to protect their clerics and the clerics to keep their fighters alive. This is both a teamwork and Survival exercise. If you are unable to complete the quest don't bother coming back. You have an hour to complete the task. Go."

Part 1
Location: Roumen
Jason waits by the Forest of Tides Portal

Allison heads towards the portal where she finds Jason limbering up.
"What took you so long? We've already lost 10 minutes and I don't want to fail my first official quest."
Allison kept heading onward acknowledging him.
"Hey, I'm talking to you!"
Allison turned back around in displeasure.
"Look, just because I got paired with you doesn't mean I have to work with you. If you just sit put and wait a half hour I'll be finished and you won't have to worry about failing."
She looked up at him with a more calm face.
"Is that cool with you?"
Jason remained speechless, unbeknown as to what to reply. In an attempt to cease the awkward pause, he blurt out the first thing that came to mind.
"What's your problem?"
"I just work better alone."
"Well this is a partnered quest and I'm not gonna let you have all the fun!"
Allison's look turned to disapproval.
"...Fine. We'll compromise. The quest says we have to defeat 5 Imps, 5 speedy slimes and 1 Hero Slime. Ill take the Imps and you can handle the speedy slimes."
"What about the Hero Slime?"
"I'll be take care of it once I finish my half."
"Screw that! We both finish it or I forfeit the quest."
"Good, I'll be able to finish it faster."
"I don't think you understand yet. If I quit, so do you. We're both kicked out of the Academy and it'll be all your fault."
"That's the most pathetic excuse for a bluff if I've ever heard one."
"Call it whatever you want, but Ruby did say partners weren't optional."
Allison stared at him in discomfort. Jason smiled as he checked the time.
"We now have... 43 minutes."
She reached into her bag and angrily threw a small slime pet at him.
"What's this for?"
"It's a pet that will allow us to communicate no matter how far we are. Once you finish your half, reach me and I''l rendezvous with you to beat the Hero Slime. And Jason.."
Jason remained attentive.
"Ya?"
"If we fail because of your insolence.. No amount of Heals will be able to repair the damage I'll do to you."
And with those words she fled through the portal, leaving Jason Hysterically baffled.
"Must be her time of the month or something."

Part 2
Location: Forest of Tides
Jason searches for his targets

In all the commotion of beginning his first quest, Jason had forgotten to ask her a key question involving his half of the assignment. He reached into his bag and pulled out the little slime pet. There was a small switch beneath it which he turned on.
"Ummm, Jason to Allison. Do you read me?"
"What do you want moron? I'm only half done!"
Her voice screeched like a banshee at him. An annoying banshee.
"Oh, ya definitely that time of the month"
Unknowingly, Jason hadn't realized his communication pet was still on.
"What did you just say?!" she yelled into the pet.
"Uhh... I was going to ask you something important."
"Well, hurry up, we only have a half hour left."
"Allison.. what do speedy slimes look like?"
Allison's transition disconnected but not before Jason hear what he thought was "Idiot."
"Thanks a lot partner....."
Before turning it off he brought it back up to his mouth and muttered; "Over."
With little help from his team mate he looked around hoping to find some one to help him out. All he could spot were mushrooms and the Hero Slime he agreed to Finish with Allison. With his head up he felt a little nudge at his leg. He looked down to discover what seemed to be a little timid, blue version of a slime.
"Awww, well aren't you cute?"
Rustles came from the bushes ahead revealing more of the kind.
"Well cute or not, your the closest thing I can find to speedy slimes."
Jason cleared his throat and drew out his sword.
"By the order of Ruby's Academy, I must now slay you all."
The little monsters' blank expression quickly grew to anger.
"Uh-oh."

With less than 15 minutes remaining, Allison stood by the portal back to Roumen waiting on Jason. She was about to leave when she saw him limping with face beaten and clothes slightly torn. By the time he got to her he fell on his face.
"What happened to you?"
He attempted to make out whatever words he could.
"So...many... so... fast... It's all a blur."
"What happened to your HP stones?"
"Used ..all."
"Your a disgrace to your class."
Allison whipped out her mace and cast a simple healing spell on him.
"Better?"
Jason had gotten up as fast as he fell.
"Back. And ready for slaughter."
"Good. Now lets finish it in 5 minutes or fail."
"Charge!!"
"Don't rush in you idiot!"
She chased after him and thus began the last part of the quest.
Jason's recklessness ended up spending more time then normal to kill the monster. Since Allison was stuck healing him she was unable to make the battle end quicker. Eventually they got the Hero slime to his last bit of HP.
The Hero slime surprised them by straining out his rasping last words; "You cannot stop the Invasion. The Slime revolution is upon you."
Jason had lifted his sword and said softly; "Shut up and Die"
With his final slash the monster was defeated and the only thing let was to return to Ruby for completion.
"What did you think he meant by that?"
"Who cares. We just have to return to Ruby by..."
Jason checked the timer on his cuff to find they were already out of time.
He fell onto his knees as his heart skipped a beat.
"We failed..."

Part 3
Location: Forest of Tides
Jason is freaking out

"I shouldn't have been so reckless... I should have stayed focused and on task."
"Umm, Jason-"
"We were so close and I blew it. How am I supposed to face everyone now?"
"Jason you should-"
"And whats worse, you'll never let me here the end of it-"
"JASON!!"
Jason finally stopped and wearyingly asked; "What?"
"We didn't fail."
Jason's face looked even more confused.
"What?"
Now having his attention, Allison slowly began to explain.
"I was worried you wouldn't treat your time wisely so when you weren't looking, I set you timer ahead by 10 minutes."
She looked back at her timer.
"We actually have 3 minutes still. If we hurry we can make it!"
Fleeting towards the Roumen Gate, Allison hesitated when she noticed she wasn't being followed.
"What are we waiting for?"
"How do I know your not just tricking me now to get there early or something?"
Allison replied with an irritated and serious expression.
"I see."
And with that they both fled through the portal.

Back in Roumen, The two are racing towards Ruby with hopes of making it on time. The other four were beside here awaiting their arrival. When they had reached her, out of breath, Jason asked, "Did we pass?"
Ruby closed her eyes and left a long awkward pause as if purposely trying to add tension and suspense.
"Barely."
Jason jumped in excitement. "Sweet, we Aced it!"
In Jason's joyous moment, something seemed to be bothering Allison.
"Master Ruby, if you weren't monitoring us, how do you know we passed?"
"Simple. The OSKI."
"The OSKI?"
Courtney in anticipation to answer quickly replied; "The Organization for Surveillance of Keen Intelligence (or OSKI for short) are an underground network that monitor everything that happens in Isya. They are to alert Town Chiefs, Merchants, and Masters when certain events and dangers take place. Certain divisions are assigned to Quest tracking to ensure success of the assigned mission."
Ruby looking unimpressed replied, "Weren't you reading a book or something?"
Courtney remained silent again and continued reading her book titled; "The First 20 levels."
"Jason, act like you've accomplished something for once!"
During the explanation, Jason was still cheering on the success of the task.
"Congratulations recruit on passing your Initiation Quest. You six will be joining the Archers and Mages of the Elven race who passed as well."
"Why aren't they here if they're taking the same test?"
"Because it's not the same Initiation Quest. Humans rely on Strength and Defense, so we start you off in The Forest of Tides. Elves rely on Intelligence and Dexterity, so they are sent to train in Sand Beach."
"Why are we meeting together if we were training separately?"
"No more Questions. Everything will be explained By Grand Master Sean in Forest of Mist. Be there at 1600 hours, or I'll cut you from the Academy."

Part 1
Location: Roumen
Kane is seen congratulating Jason

As there is still an hour before he needs to be accounted for in Forest of Mist, Jason takes time to fill in Kane on his first day near Storage Keeper Raina.
"Kane, you would've been so proud to watch your formal pupil shine."
"Sorry to have missed it. My errand ran a little longer than expected."
"Ya, well, the cleric was kind of dragging me down, but I coped and came through."
"Sounds like you had a cool head. To think I was worried about you."
Kane rummaged his hand through Jason's hair like an older brother would do. giving him a look of assurance and pride. Jason quickly slapped his hand away.
"You know just because your a year older, doesn't mean you have to act all mature an junk..."
Kane grinned; "I know. I just like reminding you that I'm a foot taller."
"When I hit my growth spurt, I'll be the one looking down on you!"
Kane gave a short chuckle, laid back and asked if he had any concerns with his future team assignment.
"All I know is I better lose the ball and chain I was partnered with and get a new and less naggy cleric... Preferably one with more cleavage."
"What about the archer and mage?"
snapping back from his illusion, he questioned; "The what now?"
"You're being put in a 4 man team. Two of each gender. One of each class."
"Oh yeah. Well as long as they don't cramp my style, I don't really mind who gets put on my team."
Out of the sudden topic put into play, Jason felt the need to ask who Kane's team members were.
"Well let's see.. I'm the team's tank-"
"Ya, ya, I know who you are, now get to the hot single girls on your team. I know you've been holding back on me Kane."
"Hot or not, I doubt they're your type."
"I'll be the judge of that. Now hurry before Allison finds me and makes me go early."
"Alright, alright. Our Cleric's name is Serah. She's Allison's older sister. Our Archer is-"
Still attentive Jason stopped him from continuing. "Whoa, whoa. Allison has a sister?"
"Yup. And from what you've told me about her the two are very much alike. Serah seems to take more pride in her accomplishments with a sense of maturity to it though."
Jason gave a look of disgust.
"Eww. Next."
"Before you rudely interrupted I was mentioning our Archer; Tara.
"And what's her dating profile?"
"She's pretty stubborn and will rarely admit when she's wrong. Other than that she's pretty laid back."
His look of disgust turned to let down disappointment.
"My Verdict: What was respect for you has turned into pity."
"Jay, Whether you like them or not, they're my team. I've got their backs and they have mine."
Kane turned to his timer. "Well you have about 15 minutes left. Why don't you go early and get to know some elves. It never hurts to make new allies."
As much of a procrastinator as Jason was, he new Kane was right. As he got up to walk towards the Town Portal he stopped and asked; "What about your mage?"
Kane gave a look as if he had been absent the entire conversation.
"I'm sorry?"
"You said there were 4 members. You only mentioned 3 including yourself."
Kane's expression turned into a mournful stare against the floor. "Oh yeah..."
"What's his name?"
Kane at this time was so deep in his memories, he almost lost site of where he was.
"...His name was Rye."
Jason began to understand why his look was so serious.
"Was?..When did he die?"
In a snap back into Reality, Kane simply replied, "I'll save that for another time. You should get going."
"Probably... Hey thanks for all the info pal."
"Don't sweat it..."
As Jason ran into the distance, Kane returned to his thinking state, clenching his fists against his knee and muttering to himself; "I should have tried harder Rye... Maybe you'd still be here if I did."

Part 2
Location: Forest Of Mist
Jason explores the new found surroundings

As Jason admired the eerie atmosphere around him, he couldn't help but feel happy seeing elves and humans crowded together. Other than the ones in Elderine, Jason hadn't seen many from the Elven race before today.
"Come on Harry boy, keep up!"
Jason quickly became distracted when he saw a short archer running at top speed being followed by a wheezing mage with swirling glasses, gasping for air.
"Please (puff) Sora (puff) 5 minute (puff) break. (pant)"
Every word the mage spoke was separated by heavy breathing.
In hopes of making allies like Kane had previously suggested, He approached the two.
"That's quite a work-out you must have done."
"Pfft, that was nothing, Harry and I were just warming up a bit before Team assessments are given out."
He held out his right hand greeting him.
"Name's Sora. and my out of shape friend over here is Harry."
"Harold!"
As Jason shook Sora's hand, the mage managed to make out as he slowly began to recover.
"I don't know why I agree to go on these exhausting marathons with you."
"Cuz Harry, Dexterity is very important to any Elf."
"Well as a mage, I'm going to go read a book and raise my Intelligence. Nice to meet you Jason."
With hose words, Harold, trudged towards the nearest tree, sat down, and opened a book.
"So how many elves passed the Qualifying round?"
Sora crossed his arms and thought aloud.
"Well let's see, there's me..... and Harry..."
From at least 20 feet away, Harold shouted back, "Harold!!"
Jason looked a bit surprised.
"Only 2 elves qualified?"
"'Course not stupid! You didn't let me finish."
backing off a bit, he let Sora continue.
"Other than us 2, there's Leo, Trixie, Haley and-"
Before he could finish, he was interrupted by a girl's loud cheery voice.
"Sora-chan!!!"
In a look of displeasure, Sora finished his previous statement and replied; "Mimi..."
Jason turned and saw running towards them a beautiful archer with luscious orange locks and bright green eyes.
Of course he couldn't stop staring at her midsection to notice.
"That's your sister!"
"Ya... I know she's a bit of an annoyance, but she's family."
As mimi approached them she stood up in front of Jason's, entering his personal space.
"Who's your new friends Sora-chan?"
"This is Jay, he's my new friend and rival."
Looking at him in confusion, Jayson was puzzled. "Rival?"
Mimi quickly hugged him in joy making him feel uncomfortable, but not enough to make her let go.
"That's so cute! You made a human friend."
From far away, a voice yelled that Jason new all to well. "Jason!!"
His sensual hug was ruined.
Mimi looked in the direction the sound was coming from.
"Is that Jay-san's girlfriend?"
"God no... that's a demon by the name of Allison."
From less than a few feet away, she replied, "I can hear you, you know?"
Jason looked at her and replied sarcastically; "You were meant to hear it."
Allison gave a short wince and knocked him upside his head.
Mimi whispered to her brother; "Are Jay and Ally-san breaking up?"
"My name is Jason, not Jay-san. Why do you add chan and san after people's names?"
Mimi looked up with her big eyes, smiled, and replied, "私は日本人を崇拝する"
Both humans were baffled. Sora simply put his head down.
"She reads way too much manga. I'm her brother and I barely understand what she says half the time."
Looking towards his timer, he grabbed his sister by the arm
"C'mon sis. Orientation starts soon."
Dragging her along, Mimi shouted back, "私は一緒に戻ることを望む!!"
Still on the ground and in pain, Jason replied; "Elves are wierd..."
Allison answered back with; "I'm sure they think the same about you."

Part 3
Location: Forest of Mist
An archer is playing a Lyre at the foot of a tree.

"Quite a pair aren't they?"
From where he was knocked down, Jason stared at the lyrical elf sitting on the ground.
getting back to his feet, he answered back, "Ya I guess... Who are you?"
"How rude of me. I am Leonardo. pleased to make your acquaintance."
"Very nice to meet you."
"Judging by your attire, I assume your here for the Squad divisions, correct?"
"Yup."
"And who is this enchanting blossom of a woman. I must know your name."
Looking behind him, he replied back; "Who are you talking to? Only Allison and I are the only ones in front of you."
Once again, she gave a short wince and knocked him against his head. Harder this time.
"Allison, was it? Such a lovely name. I believe it mean's Noble does it not?"
From the ground, Jason managed to utter a quick whip; "I thought it meant Short TEMPER."
While he is down, Allison kicked him in the ribs.
"My apologies friend, I did not know the lady was yours."
"We're not a couple. He's just a silly little boy."
Beginning to blush she asked, "Now what was it you were saying about me?"
Still very much damaged, Jason still managed to make out; "He was mentioning your wrinkles..."
Highly Irritated, she continued to kick him until he seemed unconscious.
From a short distance, A shy and fragile mage was watching attentively behind a tree.
"Trixie, I know you have been hiding there. You can come out whenever you feel comfortable."
Embarrassed she had been caught, the small female mage stepped away from behind the wood and slowly walked towards them.
In a small and low tone she asked, "Is that boy alright?"
"He'll be fine I'm sure. Have you seen Haley? Orientation will begin soon."
Trixie shook her head.
"Funny. She's the only one we haven't met yet. Speaking of which, have you seen any other humans other than us?"
Leo closed his eyes in reflection.
"Well other than Kane and your sister, I can't say I have."
Allison suddenly seemed a little on edge.
"Oh... What'd she say?"
"Nothing mentionable comes to mind. I can't even recall you being mentioned on the conversation."
She suddenly gave a look of disappointment.
"Oh... I see."
Leo's eyes opened and acknowledged the person behind Allison.
"Good to see you. I was afraid you were running late."
Allison's head turned to find that another female mage was directly behind her standing so silently, she never heard her coming.
"That's a little too close for comfort."
Haley merely gave a dowsed look. She remained silent as if in a trance listening to the headphones that were in her ears.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"Don't mind her. She's not one to talk much. Haley's always been sort of a mute."
An old man's harsh voice shouted; "Attention all recruits! Meet near H4 for Group assessments!!"
"Looks like It's starting. I see more humans have appeared," Trixie mentioned in an intimidated tone.
Leo pointed to the remaining four from the human recruits.
"Finally, I'll be rid of Jason. Come on I'll introduce you to them."
The 3 elves followed her and greeted the others.
Jason, still partly dead on the ground, cringed his head up slightly.
"I hate you."

I apologize for the late entries. Exams and such.

If anyone has any names they'd like to include as characters in the story, I'm open to suggestions. Since Character profiles are already made for them I'd only be using the name.

Part 1
Location: Forest of Mist
All students are in aligned for Team distribution.

A short and pudgy old man clothed in old fashioned steel armor gave a concerned look as he looked amongst those who had passed the Preliminary test. Beside him stood Skill Master Ruby, trainer of the humans, and Ancient Templer Maria, Trainer of the elves. Behind them stood, Kane and the two remaining members of his group, Serah and Tara. It was custom for the class ahead to attend the ceremony.
Grand Master Sean leaned over to Ruby and muttered; "Not a very strong looking bunch this year are they?"
Ruby nodded her head in agreement.
After clearing his throat, the grand master began to speak.
"Welcome future defenders of Isya. I congratulate you on making it up to this point of training. Based on the results from your first ask, you will be placed in a group of four. These groups may or may not be permanent varying on your performance as a team. Since there are 12 of you, you will be easily divided into 3 groups. Since a party is able to have 5 members, the final slot will be filled by one of the 3 from the preceding class."
The grand master gestured to Kane, Serah and Tara.
"Your Academy masters Maria and Ruby have also traveled from Roumen to view your progress.Kane will be leading Group A, Serah for B, and Tara for C. Team Captains, please step forward and call upon your party for-"
"If I may Intervene, wouldn't it be wiser to explain their mission for better preparation?" Interrupting him was Ancient Templar Maria. Not only was she the elven trainer, but she also acted as a transporter to the Sea of Greed.
"It's very kind of you to care for your students Maria, but part of this training is to prepare them by well, giving them a situation where they may not always be prepared..."
Maria withdrew her comment and stepped back.
"As I was saying previously, Your Captains will now choose their party.
Kane was the first to step forward. Knowing him the best out of the 3, Jason hoped he would be selected for his group.
"When your name is called please stand behind me. Group A will consist of the following people."
Jason awaited for his name in anticipation.
"Alpha, Trixie, Mimi and Ried."
His excitement quickly withered away. He was left with Allison's sister and Tara the archer.
Serah was the next to step forward. She was, in Jason's eyes, more attractive than her sister but not enough to go gaga.
"Team B will consist of Jason, Haley, Leo, and-" Serah looked up and stared directly at her sister. She let out what seemed to be a sigh of disappointment and finished; "Alice."
Jason looked confused. Did Serah mean Allison? Those who were called, headed behind behind her. Allison looked a tad depressed. "Must have some family issues", Jason thought to himself.
Tara, who was the final to call, simply shouted out; "If you weren't called get your butt over here."
Sam, Harold, Sora and Courtney reported with quick haste.
Grand Master Sean turned and faced the captains.
"Now that your groups are chosen and over with, I will now reveal your mission."
Some students listened closely, while others such as Ried and Haley, didn't seem all that Interested.
"Your task to complete your training is to defeat a Ratman Fighter."
"That's impossible!"
All students faced to the one who shouted. It was Courtney.
"A Ratman Fighter is level 15 with nearly 1,000 HP. How are we expected to defeat it with 5 academy students?"
"Actually only 4 of you are fighting. Your captains are only there to monitor your progress and guide you."
More students began to question the task.
"I have to agree. This test doesn't seem very passable."
"Most of us are barely level 4. How are we supposed to beat something that strong?"
The Grand Master answered; "Actually, since you passed the first half of the training program, you should all be at either 5 or 6."
Students began to look at their cuff links. Sean was right.
"So by those calculations, four level 5s make 20. And the last time I checked 20 beats 15."
Looking around many still seemed unsure.
"You won't be timed and the test will end when the monster is defeated or when all 4 of you die."
Harold blurted out in worry; "DIE?!!!"
The old man shortly chuckled.
"Relax, this is a Camp location, which means death is not eternal. You will simply re-spawn to where I am standing."
He turned to Ruby. "Didn't you teach them that?"
She looked away in embarrassment and muttered; "Not my fault they're stupid."
Looking back at the fifteen young faces; he replied; "I look forward to hearing of your results. Good luck to you all!"

Part 2
Location: Forest of Mist
Serah leads her team to the Ratman Fighter.

As they walked towards the elite monster, Jason remained bothered about how unusually quiet Allison was being. Normally he'd be ecstatic of the peace and quiet, but the saddened face she made when they were walking just brought him down.
Jason leaned over to whisper to Allison's ear.
"So why does your sister call you Alice?"
Unaware that Serah was a foot in front of them she answered back;
"Because that's her name."
Still marching forward Jason continued to ask; "But I thought her name-"
"Her name is Alice. She calls herself Allison to seem more mature. It's actually quite pathetic."
After listening to her sister's explanation, he looked back at Allison...Alice... the other sister. He could see why she was always trying to be independent. The whole Sibling rivalry was cliché but he could see how hard Alice was trying.
Breaking the awkward silence that had risen, Leo commented from the back and asked;
"So is this Ratman Fighter really that powerful?"
"Strong enough to take down you Noobs."
"Then why are we fighting it?"
"It's all part of the test."
"Ok... Any tips?"
"Work with what you've got."
"Any other useful information?
Serah remained silent.
"A beauty such as yourself can't afford to spare any more advice?"
She remained silent still. Jason repeated the sentence in his head. Work with what you've got... Work with what you've got... As a fighter, Jason had only a sword to attack and a shield to defend. His skills included Slice and Dice, and the recently learned Bone Slicer. His teammates included a depressed Cleric, a mute mage and a promiscuous archer. Goody.
After an awkward while of walking, Serah spoke once again.
"We're here."
All 5 stood and gazed at the monster they would be facing. Other then a slight color difference, Jason didn't see much of a threat. Near the creature, they saw Kane's team approaching it.
"Wait until Kane's team dies. Then you can fight it."
"There's a chance they could win," Leo added positively.
Serah turned her head slightly and softly spoke, "No, there isn't."
With those words of encouragement, they sat and watched Team A prepare for their battle.
He noticed, some of them equipping scrolls.
"What are those for?"
"They're scrolls. They can raise anything depending on the type you have."
"Cool... You'd be powered up all the time."
"Actually, they're is a catch. They only last an hour. You can get them 3 ways; You make them with alchemy. You buy them from another person, or you can hope a monster drops th-."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
A blood curdling scream echoed through the air.
It was Trixie. Jason had turned his head in time to see her fall.
In little to no time, All of Team A was seen deceased on the ground.
Looking over at Kane, he seemed to be writing something down. He then ran back towards The meeting ground near Sean. In that time, the bodies faded away. Most likely back towards Sean, Jason hoped to himself.
"Your turn."
The wind suddenly seemed colder as the 4 walked cautiously towards the beast.
"Let's see what we have to work with. Other than my equipment, I have 3 Endurance Scrolls as well as the skills Aimed Shot and Power Shot. What have you Haley?"
Haley took out 2 Cyan colored scrolls
"1 Defense and 1 magic defense scroll. Excellent. And your skills?"
Haley faced a tree and raised her straight arm to eye level. She fired 3 blasts from her hand."
"Magic, Ice and Fire. Noted."
Jason had a hard time concentrating on the battle ahead when he had several questions rummaging his mind.
Namely how Leo understood everything that Haley mimicked.
"Jason?"
Snapping out of his thoughts Jason jumped back into reality.
"Huh?"
"Do you have anything to contribute?"
"Umm..Nothing more than my sword and shield."
"I see... And Alice... or is it Allison?"
The cleric looked up with colorless eyes. "I don't care anymore."
In an attempt to try and get her motivated Jason broke out.
"God, will you just cut it out.!"
All eyes fell on Jason.
"So you have some family issues, get over it! It was bad enough when you were nagging all the time, but this is just sad. You want to make something of yourself? You want to prove to your sister that your not as pathetic as she says? Then get your head in the right place and show some backbone!"
There was a long pause after Jason's words.
Once again, Serah broke the Silence, "You really suck at subtlety, kid."
Jason gave a slight blush.
"Alright you guys are up."

This story may be put on hold for a bit until I see if a new class is added to the game or not. This story can continue without it but If a new class is being made, There are modifications I'd love to make to the storyline.

This Fanfic is following most of the Quests and Kingdom Quests from the MMO. In this "Book" a few beginner quests as well as the King Slime KQ are involved.

Also, I've added a few character portraits for people to get a rough idea of Character appearances.
I'll add the rest when I get a chance.

Thanks for Reading!

Part 1
Location: Forest of Mist
Team B confronts the Ratman Fighter.

After equipping what little scrolls they had and bracing themselves for impact. Jason, Allison, Leo and Haley work out their strategy. It was decided that Jason would head up as tank, while being constantly healed by Allison. Leo and Haley would provide support from the sides. It seemed like a good solid plan. However the memory of what happened to the previous team kept entering their minds.
"Well then. Shall we begin?"
"I'm ready when you guys are."
Jason looked to his left at Haley who nodded in agreement. He then turned to his right.
"Allison. You ready?"
Allison looked up once more at Jason, but this time with a confident look. She took out her mace and shield and stated; "Let's exterminate this rat."
Jason looked at her almost feeling proud that he had gotten her out of her rut.
The four began to approach the beast with determination and an "all or nothing" attitude. They hid behind a nearby bush staring down the creature from a safe distance.
Leo whispered the game plan under the hush breeze.
"It's still unaware that we're here. We have the element of surprise and can use this to our advantage."
Even as he softly spoke, the beast still remained daft of their presence.
"On the count of three, I'll distract him with a power shot, Haley, while I have it's attention, begin providing back-up support with your spells. Jason, when I give you the signal, get it's attention and begin tanking. Allison, remain at a respectable distance. If you die, the party dies as well. Are we all understood?"
Haley and Allison nodded.
Leo gave a concerned look.
"Where's Jason?"
The other 2 noticed he was missing as well and looked around. He was once again flailing toward the enemy yelling "CHARGE!!!"
"Jason, you idiot! Didn't you listen to the plan!"
Still running, Jason yelled back, "I'm changing it! Hit and run will work best!"
The cleric, archer and mage, still watching Jason hit and scurry away from the ratman, couldn't help but watch as slowly it's HP was actually decreasing.
959HP... 943HP... 936HP...
Leo once again was the first to speak.
"Not my original plan, but it will have to do! Haley, hit em' with everything you've got. Allison, keep your bull-headed friend alive!"
"Understood."
The quartet of fighters continued fighting using every skill and ability they knew. It eventually evolved into a pattern.
Slash - Aimed shot - Magi Missile. Heal - Slice and dice - Power Shot - Heal - Ice Bolt - Bone Slicer - Heal - Fire Bolt - Slash - Heal.
The tactic, though unorthodox, seemed to be working. It's HP continued to drop.
845Hp... 725HP... 653HP...
What seemed like an hour could've only been ten minutes. No one noticed, as they kept using everything they could. Eventually, they began to run low on HP and SP Stones.
"I'm all out of SP Potions and Stones!"
213HP...
"I've run dry as well."
192HP..."
"Come on guys! Just a little more, he's almost dea-"
Before finishing his last sentence, Jason had been stunned. The beast then turned around eying Leo.
Allison yelled out, trying to warn the archer. "Leo, heads up!"
It was too late. In one foul swoop, Leo had bit knocked out and lie dead on the floor. The ratman looked up once more, this time targeting Allison.
The cleric remained still, frozen with fear.
Though it may have seemed meaningless, Haley still cast spells against his back.
174HP... 162HP... 157HP...
Having had enough, it turned around and began rushing towards the mage.
Showing no fear and still attacking, Allison stared as the monster reached back to give his killing blow. She closed her eyes so, she wouldn't watch. Instead of hearing tearing flesh, she heard what sounded like a hit against wood.
She opened her eyes and found Jason using his shield and blocking Haley.
"You should've killed me when you had the chance, ratface!"
And with more force than ever, Jason began pushing it back with
HIT.
124HP...
BLOCK. HIT.
113HP...
BLOCK. HIT.
85HP...
The creature, wounded, jumped back and raced again towards Allison.
"ALLISON!!"
She held up her shield and closed her eyes once more. The beast tore right through her shield, shattering it, and penetrating her armor. She was knocked to the ground and lay lifeless.
Only Jason and Haley were left standing.
Even with Jason in awe, Haley remained focused. Casting the only 3 spells she knew repeatedly. Trying to kill the creature and pass the 2nd test.
Magic Missile.
27HP...
Ice Bolt.
14HP...
Fire bolt.
9HP...
In what seemed like a flash of light, the powerful monster ended up behind Haley and slashed against her back, killing her.
Jason watched as the last remaining member of his party fell.
Blood thirsty, the beast rushed towards the paralyzed Jason.
What could he do? He had no more Stones. His party had fallen. And they were so close! The creature had less than 10 health. All that work. Wasted. All thought were racing at him faster than the monster. Almost as if time was being slowed down...
He wanted to make Kane proud and impress his friends. And he knew that if he could get behind it, he could kill the monster in 3 slashes.
As his mind came back into reality, the beast was already within an arm's reach of Jason.
In less than half a second, He will have been slaughtered, and the test, ended. In what little time he could, he raised his shield and shut his eyes, hoping, everything would work out.
Just as what happened to Allison, Jason's shield had been pierced, watching as the splinters spread in all directions.
Opening his eyes, Jason saw an opening and took his shot.
Unfortunately, he wasn't quick enough. The beast back handed his chest causing him to fly back, and hit a tree, knocking out the last breath in him.
Jason's vision began to blur. His hearing was going as well. All five of his senses were fading. Never having died before, this experience was frightening and exciting all at the same time to him. He still resisted trying to keep his eyes open, fearing that if he closed them, they would never open again. No matter how much he resisted, his eyelids had shut, and Mind faded out into black.

Part 1
Location: Unknown
A dark mist shrouds the Area.

Thinking he had died, Jason awoke to find himself to be alive. He felt his ribcage to where the beast had dealt the blow, but it was gone. Any wounds or blood from the fight had disappeared. Furthermore, he notice that he was no longer in Forest of Mist. The grass and trees were replaced by a thick fog. His location was unsure. The nothingness that surrounded him seem to go on forever.
"Am I.... dead?"
Though he knew know one was around to hear him, Jason found comfort in hearing some form of sound in the hollow abyss.
"Hello?"
His voice echoed across the vast emptiness, as if he was the last person in existence. It was unsettling. Not knowing what else do do, he ran forward through the darkness in hopes of pursuing his friends.
"Leo... Haley...Alice...un?"
Was this the afterlife? Doomed to spend eternity walking soullessly through this empty place? He eventually collapsed after what seemed like hours to him. He shouted to the heavens in a tiresome rage.
"Where is everyone?!!!"
He was answered to immediately by a hooded figure a feet behind him. Hovering at least a foot off the air and a long black cloak with black gloves and no feet to walk on as far as he could tell.
"They left seconds before you got here."
Jason turned to try and see the face of the mysterious stranger, but it was covered by his hood.
"Are you... Death?"
The unknown figure replied back in a casual tone.
"Death? It is one of my many names, but you my in-between friend, can call me Grim. Now get your lazy *** of the floor."
Jason stood in astonishment and quickly drew out his sword in fear. "Okay Grim. Where the hell am I?"
Grim placed his glove covered hands on his forehead an murmured to himself; "Uggh. Explaining death is such a pain."
"I'M DEAD!?"
His shrill voice echoed repeatedly across the mist.
"Why don't you yell louder. I don't think the mist in the back heard you."
Trying to keep his grip on the current situation, Jason felt the need to ask; "So... This is hell?"
"Ummm... No. The field your in right now is known as the In-between. It's where people who die go to. Sort of like a gate between your world and the other side. Until they warp back to a town or are revived they're stuck IN-BETWEEN. This window of opportunity usually lasts about 2 minutes."
Jason blurted out in a confused rant. "Two minutes! I've been wandering around this empty hole for at least an hour!"
"Ya... Time goes way slower in the in-between."
"So how long have a actually been here? In mortal time, I mean."
Grim took out an old pocket watch and held it up to his face
"About 15 seconds."
"Whoa. That's some heavy stuff."
"Yup. First time death experiences usually are. Now go warp back so I can take a nap."
"Wait- I still have some questions."
Irritated, Grim hovered over to him and asked; "Does my Cloak read Tour Guide? Why the hell should I answer your noob questions?"
Jason targeted his sword directly at Grim's chest.
"Because I have a Weapon and you don't."
Grim tilted his head in confusion at Jason's sword.
"Are you threatening the Grim reaper with a level 1 Sword?"
"......"
Realizing he was literally challenging death, he hesitated before replying; "Yes."
Since there was no air in the in-between, the awkward moment was all the more unsettling.
"Hehe, I like you kid, you've got balls."
Jason grinned at the compliment.
"Of course you could just be an Idiot."
His smile faded.
"All right. What do you cant to ask?"
"I know your busy being the repear and all but I only have 3 questions.
One. Does this mean I'm immortal?
Two. What happens when the 2 minutes are up?
And Three. How did my friends warp back?"
"All very easy questions. The answer to the first question is Hell no. If I told you how and when you actually die, you'd **** **** yourself. The warp ability is only available in a major town or city. So don't go dying just for the hell of it. The paper work is exhausting!
Answer 2: If you're not in a campsite or Battle Zone, you'll need to be revived by a level 20 cleric or higher. If no one comes to your rescue, you die and go to the other side... Unless of course a certain ritual is performed, but your way to young to know about that stuff.
And finally Answer three. You're friends can read and you can't"
Jason gave a questionable look and gazed around.
"Read what, there's nothing around."
"Look at your left cuff-link and Read the buttons genius."
His Cuff-link read WARP and REVIVE. Warp was flashing but Revive remained Grey.
You know the whole point of those things are to train you. Try using em once in a while
If your done, I'm gonna take a snooze before my night shift.
Before hovering away, Grim hesitated and turned his head.
"Oh and one more thing." In a flash even faster than the ratman, Grim drew out an enormous scythe and held it against Jason's chin.
"If you ever threaten me again. I'll ensure your death myself."
His voice was demonic and his breath, bone-chilling to the ear.
Grim used the tip of his scythe and hit Warp on Jason's Cuff Link."
A white light resonated from Jason's wrist and everything around him faded to white.
As the white faded to black, Jason heard a distinct familiar voice in the distance getting closer.
"Jason.... Get up! Jason!"
It was Allison for sure. Her concerned voice was nice to hear.
"I said get up!" Allison kicked his ribs causing his eyes to finally open due to agonizing pain.
"Glad to see you've awakened my friend. Serah 's just given her report to Grand Master Sean and Team C has return failed as well."
"Courtney was right. That test was impossible."
She gazed back down at a side-holding Jason.
"Now get up. I want to see your face when you get kicked out for incompetence."
Between the depression and the teasing, there was no upside to that girl, Jason thought to himself. He managed to pick himself up once again and limp on over to Sean for the results.

There probably won't be anything on SC.
I'm doing a fanfic on the game elements, not the cash shop items >_<
But who knows. I'll see how the story develops. Since I've been on break, I've had more time to write. Hoping to finish this book with 12 Chapters at least before including Mara and Tricksters in Book 2.

Part 1
Location: Forest Of Mist
Recruits once again gather near Grand Master Sean

Jason looked around at the many faces who looked concerned after failing the second part of their entrance exam. Jason felt no different. He had barely passed the first part and now he has let himself and 3 other people down.
The Grand Master stepped forward and announced; "May I have all your attention for a moment." A fading hush fell over the group.
"I have just spoken with your Team leaders and must say I am very surprised with the results. I will start with the most obvious result. Not one squad was able to defeat the Ratman Fighter. For this we take off 5% of your overall grade."
Many failed in understanding, while others were outraged.
"FIVE PERCENT! We wasted all this time on a measly 5 percent!"
"Your reaction is only natural," Sean stated calmly.
This exercise was to test your ability as a team player. I must say, I was hoping you would all realise this. Unfortunately, many were only concerned with defeating the creature."
Embarrassed faces were shared all around.
"However, I applaud those who attempted at working together and co-operating with one another's thoughts."
Jason tilted his head down and face-palmed his forehead. Grand Master Sean couldn't have described the opposite of his actions more perfectly.
"Since many of you have succeeded in performing this task, Your overall grade rises by 25%."
Many seemed relieved but still a little unsure of themselves.
"What about the last 70%?"
"I'm glad you've asked Samantha. 30% of this assignment was to test your ability to work and succeed with others. The other 70% was to test your self-reliance, skill and technique. Being a team player is excellent, but it means nothing if you can't contribute to the overall success of any mission or quest."
Jason was now sweating beads rapidly off his face with unassurance and thoughts of failure.
"So it is with great pride that I announce the Passing of all Recruits. You are now official students in the Academy. Congratulations."
Loud Cheers echoed as Jason let out a huge sigh of relief.
"If I could have you attention once more.."
The cheers quieted down as the listened attentively.
"Now that you are all students here. You will be put into new teams."
"YES!"
Jason turned his head left at Allison, who seemed more than eager to trade up.
"Sorry."
"You should all consider yourselves very lucky. Last year only one team was able to pass."
Sean directed their attention to Kane, Serah and Tara.
"These four... erm, I mean 3 were the only to pass last year's entrance exam because of their dedication and teamwork."
Jason new that Rye was part of Kane's team, but was confused why Sean hadn't mentioned him.
"What about the mage?"
Sean looked at Jason with his expression showing confusion, but his eyes showing fear. "I'm sorry?"
"Kane says there was a mage. Ray or something."
Many others were unsure of what he was talking about.
Sean glared at Kane.
"Kane?"
He looked at the baffled Kane and hinted towards Jason.
He looked into Jason's eyes and managed to utter out "He died."
An eerie silence fell over the crowd.
Tara too, seemed upset and Serah, though her expression remained the same, seemed affected by the statement as well.
Jason felt inconsiderate for asking about it out loud.
"I'm sorry. I was just curious about what happened to him."
"It's alright you fighter. He will always be in our memories," Sean claimed giving a weak and fake smile. Kane still seemed affected after saying his friend had died. Jason now felt guilty for causing such a sad an awkward moment.
"Well, past memories aside, I will now announce your new teams."
Not many seemed to care anymore after the thought of death on the mind.
"These teams have been sorted with level of experience, skill, and technique.
Team A's members will have scored above 85% and be able to accept all level quests.
Team B's members will have scored 70-85% and be able to accept level 1-4 quests.
and Team C's members will have scored 50-70% and be able to accept level 1-3 quests.
These team are to determine what level quests you will be given. In this academy, there quests will have a level on them. Level 1 being easy, Level 2 being Easy-Medium, Level 3 being Medium, Level 4 being Medium-Hard, and Level 5 being the most difficult. Rewards will pend on the level of difficulty.
Now that I've explained quest basics, I will now finally announce Teams."
All academy students gave confident looks and hoped to have scored high enough to be on Team A.
Team A will consist of the following four.
With a score of 93%, Team A's Fighter will be Alpha.
Short claps were given as Alpha shook Kane's hand and stood behind him.
"It would be helpful if you held all applause until the end.
With a score of 90%, Team A's Cleric will be Courtney.
With a score of 87%, Team A's Archer will be Leo.
With a score of 88%, Team A's Mage will be Haley."
The highest of the 12 had been selected. Those with the best chance of being the Next GM, were those behind Kane. All that was left was to weed out the rest.
"Congratulations Team A.
Team B will consist of the following four.
With a score of 71%, Team B's Fighter will be Jason."
Jason couldn't believe his ears. He gave a look of high accomplishment (To him anyways)
and rushed towards Serah. He held out his hand to shake hers. Serah glared at his hand, then to his face. "Get behind me and don't look so stupid." *****iness must run in the family, he thought to himself.
With a score of 83%, Team B's Cleric will be Allison."
"NOOOO!"
Once again all fell on the disappointed Allison who slummed over next to Jason.
"I'm never going to get rid of you, am I?"
Still smiling, he looked at her and said, "Nope. If you're lucky, we might be on the same team until Academy graduation." The thought of sticking with him and having to repeat the academy from failing entered her mind.
"I think I'm going to cry."
Sean continued announcing names.
"With a score of 75%, Team B's Archer will be Sora."
"Yes! An even number!"
He ran towards Allison's side and tried to seem taller than her.
With a score of 82%, Team B's Mage will be Trixie."
Trixie shyly walked next to Sora. Jason still new as much about her as Haley. Which was nothing than little conversation.
Team C was the remaining four.
Jason gave his own evaluation in his head of how each member got the lowest scores as he heard each name being called.
Sean still announced their names and scores.
With a score of 69%, Team C's Fighter will be Sam."
She's a woman. It's only natural she got the lowest score.
"With a score of 56%, Team C's Cleric will be Ried."
Lazy.
"With a score of 66%, Team C's Archer will be Mimi."
Would've taken her over Sora in a heartbeat.
With a score of 65%, Team C's Mage will be Harold."
For a Nerdy looking guy, I thought he would've gotten higher.
"Give yourselves a big round of applause!"
Cheers and claps were heard from all students. Even Ruby gave a few weak claps.
"Get plenty of rest, for tomorrow, you begin your first quest as a team!"
All student began fanning out towards the town portal.
"Jason!"
He turned his a head to Grand Master Sean who had called him.
"A word, if it's alright"

Part 1
Location: Forest Of Mist
Jason is Called over by Grand Master Sean

Jason headed over to The Grand master in worries that his little comment about Rye might have gotten him or Kane in trouble.
"Yes Grand Master?"
Sean gave Jason a look of both comfort and distress.
"About your comment on Rye earlier on..."
He knew this was coming, Jason held his breath and apologized to the best of his abilities.
"I'm really sorry about that Grand Master, Sir. I didn't know it was such a pressing issue sir. I guarantee it won't happen again, sir."
Like a nervous soldier, beads of sweat rolled down his face. Sean merely smiled at him and placed his left hand on his shoulder. Jason's face seemed still and obviously short of breath.
"You can breathe now, son"
"Thank you, sir."
Jason let out a sigh while still trying to retain a respectful and upright position.
"You don't have to apologize, but I had wished you had talked to me sooner."
The fighter didn't understand why it was such a pressing issue. Granted, talk of death is always serious, but Sean made it seem like Rye was a criminal, or that maybe his death was a continental event.
"Why exactly is his death so seriously taken?"
Jason paused realizing he forgot to add "Sir?"
The Grand Master once again looked at him with those same pair of distressing/comforting eyes.
"Well for starters, I have to be perfectly honest with you."
Jason listened closely in interest.
"There is something you should know about Rye."
His face turned to shock.
"What is it, sir?"
Sean turned his attention away from Jason and looked back at him.
"Let's take a walk"
Unsure of whether this was related or avoiding the subject, he did what he was told.
Following his walking tempo almost simultaneously, Jason kept at the grand master's pace.
"Like the other elves you've seen today, Rye was a Wiz-Mage in training, just like Haley, Harold and Trixie. He was studious, hard-working and kind to all he met."
Jason didn't want to let on that he was bored and wanted to hear what the big shock was. So he just nodded and walked at his pace continuously.
"After passing the test that you and your classmates have just completed, he was placed in the one and only squad consisting of your friend Kane, Alice's sister Serah, and Tara."
Feeling the need to interrupt, Jason asked "What does this all have to do with Rye?"
Still walking with Jason, Sean answered sternly; "Everything."
The fighter quieted down and let him continue.
"After only a month of Training in his new squad, Rye claimed he was Ready for the 20 Exam, also known as the 1st Exam or the XX Test. While his other teammates had just barely hit level 10, he had surpassed them and reached 20. Isyan Law dictates that any and all who have reached level 20 are eligible to take the test. I of course, could not refuse, so I allowed him to enter the Shadow dungeon to see if he could suffice in the Test."
Jason was suddenly getting into Rye's back-story. "Did he pass?"
"To my surprise yes. And in record time, I might add. Afterwords, he graduated the academy early and I haven't seen him since."
"So when exactly did he die."
Sean stopped walking and turned to Jason. "I knew something had slipped my mind." He looked at Jason and told him without so much as hesitation "Rye isn't dead."
Jason couldn't come to grip after hearing that.
"He's not dead?"
Sean had begun walking with his hands behind his back in a strolling fashion. Jason tagged beside him in concern.
"Nope."
"Then why did you make such a big deal about it? Why'd you even call me over? Just so you could say it was a lie?"
Jason paused and caught his breath again.
"Sir..."
"Well yes. And to tell you the truth behind it. From what I can tell, you are the closest friend Kane has had in a while. These last few months have been troubling for him to say the least. It's good to see he's taken a shine to some one."
"Please fast forward sir."
"Impatient. Just like a young fighter is expected to be. Any who, a few months ago, rumors had spread that Rye was consulting in forms of Dark arts with forbidden training techniques. The OSKI, being the media outlet confirmed to everyone that they were all just rumors."
"They were true, weren't they?"
"Oh yes, His appearance had even changed. Along with his qualities. That ambitious young man had turned into evil. And with those forbidden training techniques, he became as high a level as the GMs themselves."
"So why do you go around saying he's dead?"
"Well the last time Kane confronted Rye was 4 months ago. It was in a battlezone, where Kane could have easily been destroyed right then and there. Even with the high level difference, Kane still stood his ground and begged Rye to return. From what I'd heard, Kane was spared. Rye had cast Drain Mind on Kane and ran. Rye was Kane's closest friend. He didn't want to sully his friend's name so he claimed he found Rye dead in Moonlight Tomb."
"I see... Why didn't he kill him?"
"To this day I still don't know. Maybe there's some good still left in him. Ahh, here we are."
Jason stopped and saw nothing. They were in an empty area in the Forest. Not a monster in sight.
"Why'd we walk all the way over here?"
Sean took in a deep breath through his nose and breathed out his mouth.
"This spot just really makes one at peace at mind."
That was it? He was expecting some big scene of the crime where Rye had been.
"Once again congratulations to you Jason. Get plenty of rest. Tomorrow you begin your first day as an Academy member."
Sean walked back into the opposite direction back to his post. Jason let out a sigh of disappointment. Though he did have to admit. It was a great view of the forest. And it really was a good place to clear one's head. Jason sat and reflected on all he had just heard. He took out a peace of paper he had written a little over a year ago. On it was the title "Goals." Under it were listed "Kick ***" and "Pawn Noobs." Jason took out a pen from his bag of inventory and scribbled in another goal. He then got up, put his hands on the back of his head and walked towards the Roumen Portal.

Part 1
Location: Roumen
Allison awaits Jason's arrival.

Since they had finished their entrance exam, Team B had decided to take the day after off for self reflection and rest. Ahead of time, they all agreed on taking a level 3 quest to start off. Storage keeper Raina had decided to give them a chance and asked for their assistance in a pest control problem. Apparently 5 honeyings had stolen 3 jar's worth of honey from her the other day. Eager to seek opportunity, Team B accepted the Quest and have since been waiting for the never on time Jason who had slept in and just barely made the meeting time.
"Why can't you just get an alarm like everyone else?"
"I'm here aren't I? Now let's go accept our first quest!"
"No need, we already found one."
"So fast?"
"Actually, the day before yesterday, after the exam, Sora, Trixie and I went off and accepted a quest when Sean pulled you aside."
"Then why didn't you tell me yesterday?!"
"Couldn't find you."
"I still have that communicator pet thingy you gave me before! Why didn't you reach me on that."
"I'm sorry, maybe I was too subtle... I didn't want to find you."
Hoping to avoid further decline in team morale, Jason wished to change the subject.
"So before we leave, I have to restone."
"So go restone."
"Can you do it for me?"
"Do it yourself."
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"I don't know how..."
Allison just glared at him with a look of pity and disappointment.
"Did you not even do the tutorial quests before enrolling?"
Jason seemed confused.
"The what now?"
"Uggh... Just go ask Ruby."
"I did."
"Oh? and what did she recommend?"
"Well first she glued my Cuff links shut so I can't remove them. Then she wrote this."
Allison read the cuffs in black marker that wrote; "You have a team, idiot! Ask them."
"Well, that's just great."
Jason too, look concerned.
"I know, I think she wrote in in permanent marker..."
"Your idiocy knows no bounds does it?"
Unmindful to the cleric's words, he licked his thumb and rubbed against the marking.
"I hope this comes out..."
"Well this explains a lot actually. Your arrogance, failure to correspond battle, and very short attention span."
Still staring hard at his cuff, he looked up to Allison and asked;
"Hey, Allison, your a girl right, do you know how to rub out marker?"
Growing short tempered, she reached into her bag and held out a book.
"Take this and read. You can read, can't you?"
Jason looked away and onto the held out piece of literature that read BASICS as the title.
"I'll read it after our quest."
"No, you'll read it now. Your sitting this one out Jason."
"What?! But you need me, who's gonna tank?"
"At this point I'd let Sora tank. Besides you're highly inexperienced and I won't have your death on my hands. I mean what did you do, kill some slimes and think you were ready to take on the world?"
Jason blushed and grabbed the book from Allison.
"I'll read the stupid book."
"Good. And hey, there will be plenty of other quests. Just think of this as studying."
"I hate studying..." Jason muttered quietly.
"Well too bad. Go find a quiet spot and make sure you read the whole thing. It's only about 50 pages."
"Fine, can I ask one last thing, before you go?"
Allison decided to cut him some slack and fulfill the favor.
"What?"
"Can you tell me how to restone?"
"Do you not listen when other people talk do you?...."
Allison let out a sigh and told him; "Just skip to Chapter 3."
Jason did as instructed and searched the section on HP and SP Stones.
"Hmmm... Step 1. Find a shop with a cross-like shape."
Jason looked around and found one next to Ruby's skill shop.
After following all steps, Jason had his stones refilled and headed back to the Forest of Mist to read the rest of the book.

Part 2
Location: Forest of Mist
Jason is reading. (Gasp!)

To read the rest of the book, Jason went to the calm place Grand Master had showed him a few days back. He sat cross legged concentration hard on the book. He expectantly lost interest and lay on the ground staring at the sky..
"I'm bored!!!!"
Passing by the time, ha sat back up cross-legged and decided to revise his list of goals. looking at them again, he decided to self edit them, so they wouldn't look so bad. .
"All better."
To make sure they sounded good, he began to read them out loud..
"1) Become stronger.
2) Always be a team sport.
3) Help Allison to take the stick out of her ***.
4) Erase the black marker off cufflink
5) Bring Rye home."
Jason gave a look of satisfaction and tucked away the list. Doing so, he heard a distinct rustling in the bushes behind him. He sprinted upward, drew out his sword and held up his shield, preparing to face whatever was lurking..
"Come out from hiding. How long were you gonna keep eavesdropping?"
Surprisingly,a voice answered back.. "Until something interesting was said... I was sorely disappointed."
Ticked off, Jason yelled back, "Show yourself, coward!"
The voice's body emerged from the forest into the clearing revealing a young human around Jason's age with a long claw in each hand..
"You're the coward. Using a shield to protect you."
The stranger used an enthusiastic voice while still maintaining a bold tone. Staring at the weirdly dressed boy, Jason lowered his weapon and questioned; "What's with he claws?"
Unaware, he still had them in his hands, he quickly hid them behind his back..
"Crap! Forget you saw those!"
"What? The claws?"
"Stop saying that! Just promise me if some one asks, you never saw them."
"Why?"
"PROMISE DAMNIT!"
This young person's face now showed fear. As if something horrible would happen if Jason were to tell people about him. Seeing as how this boy seemed eager to keep this between them, Jason decided to abide under a condition..
"Okay, okay. But under one condition. You tell me who you are, what those are, where you came from and why I'm not allowed to tell anyone about the-"
Stopping before saying the dreaded word CLAW again, he uttered out "Slasher things..."
With little options, the stranger agreed..
"My name is Zeke. I am one of the last few of my kind."
"What are you talking about, there are a bunch of humans everywhere."
"I was referring to Tricksters. We are humans that are able to use dual wield weapons and use the agility of the elven race in exchange for the defense of the human race. There are barely any of us left. Only enough to form a small private guild."
"Whoa, how many of you are there."
"Thirteen. Together we formed the guild; DECK."
"What does that stand for."
"It's not an acronym, it's symbolism. There are 4 suits in a deck of cards and each suit has 13 cards, get it?"
"Then why aren't you guys called SUIT?"
"Because that's just the way it is! Still can't believe I told all this to a guy who can't take anything seriously.."
"I am taking this fully seriously! I just have questions is all."
Getting back on topic, Jason asked, "Now what about the why?"
"Another time..."
"Hey, we had a deal!"
"Well, I'm renegotiating."
Zeke held up Jason's list of goals.
Shocked at how he could've possibly obtained it he reached in his back and noticed it missing. Jason yelled back; "How'd you get that?"
"You get this back when I know I can trust you. Do we have an understanding?"
Agitated, Jason nodded in unwanted agreement.
"Good..."
Before turning away, Zeke looked back and said, "You know, I always imagined when I talked face to face with a non-trickster, we would end up fighting. But I look at you, and think that we might end up being good friends."
Jason managed to make out a grin from the thought.
"Of course I also thought you were tough before you held up the pansy *** shield."
His grin faded.
"Later, Fighter... Oh and try boiled soap for the marker."
Zeke through a card at him and vanished back into the forest.
"It's Jason!" after yelling, he picked up the card the trickster had thrown revealing a 5 of Clubs.
"Hmmm... wonder what this is for..."
In all the rush that had just happened, Jason sat back down dumbfounded and began reading again.
"This is why I hate studying.... The distractions."

Before continuing with future chapters, I would like some feedback from whoever reads these. Other than "I like it," I haven't really gotten much comment on anything the readers particularly liked about the story thus far. Is there anything you want to see more of? What works? What doesn't?

I have many more characters and plot twists for this story, but I'm hoping to work more on character development and showing basics (After all this 1st book is called "Newbies").

Thanks to those who give feedback!

The story line fits well together. I prefer your style of writing and maybe you could open your story up for recruitment? Maybe if you could add just a few more twists to the story...

I really like the way you make Allison's personality... good work so far... keep it up :)

Part 1
Location: Roumen
Jason rushes toward his fellow party members...

"Allison!!"
The cleric turned to find Jason running towards her in anticipation.
Once he reached her he halted took a deep breath in and said with pride, "I finished! Now I can do the quest with you guys"
Allison sighed and held her hand over her forehead.
"I'll start with this. I gave you that book 3 hours ago, which shouldv'e only taken you a half hour at the most."
"Well ya, but now it's finished. I'm all educated and ready to slash!"
"What part of {Your sitting this one out Jason} did you not understand?"
"How did you guys even do it without me? I mean I'm the tank!"
"You should've seen it Jay, I took on all those honeyings. They never knew what hit em!"
Allison pushed her frustration now onto the archer.
"Not like Trixie helped or anything.."
"Oh right... My bad Trix, you provided excellent cover fire!"
Fiddling with her hands, she gave a small blush and murmured "Th-Thank you..."
Turning back to Jason, Sora let out a long stretch. "Well, I'm done for the day, at least I leveled before the day ended."
"WHAT?! Bad enough I missed the quest, but now I missed the opportunity to level!"
Jason's loud tone startled Trixie who felt horrible for leaving him out.
"I'm sorry Jason. A-Allison said-"
The cleric cut her off; "Don't apologize Trixie. He deserves it."
She stepped forward in close to hugging distance, very into his personal space.
"Let this be a lesson to you Jason. If your serious about training, learn what you have to, and use it in combat. Otherwise your just dead weight."
An eerie silence fell over the group.
"Anyways... I gotta umm. Ya. Later Jay!"
Hoping to catch the opportunity out of this situation, Trixie followed along.
"Yes.. Umm.. I have to.. Thank you for the heals Allison."
With that, both strutted off.
Still giving Jason a disappointed look, she headed off in the same direction as the other 2.

Part 2
Location: Roumen
The young fighter slashes at the slimes

In an upset tantrum, Jason was slashing away at the slimes he had practiced on before joining the academy. This little spot was just on the outskirts of Roumen leading to the fields Sand beach and the Forest of Tides.
"Stupid Allison, Stupid book"
Continuously slashing, the smiles the slimes made only made him more angry
"Stupid slimes!"
"Rough day huh?"
Jason's breathing began to settled as he turned around to find his friend calmly smiling at him. After a few minutes of explaining the situation, Kane was caught up to speed.
"That does seem like a downer."
"It's not fair. I was looking so forward to doing my first official quest. And then they just leave me behind. Isn't there some rule that says all members have to participate."
"There is. But there's another one that says a party can move on if a member isn't properly prepared."
"Well I'm ready now, and have nothing to train on."
Feeling bad for his deprived friend, Kane offered a suggestion.
"Why don't we go on a little monster killing spree? been a while since we actually fought together."
Tempted to accept his offer, something made Jason hesitate.
"Isn't that against the rules or something? Aren't I only allowed to go hunting with my team?"
"Correction. You are only allowed to accept quests with your team. Hunting solo or with a friend is completely allowed. So what do you say?"
Jason still wasn't sure he felt much like fighting. He felt too upset.
Further trying to persuade him, Kane added; "I'll take you to a new area..."
As saddened as Jason was, he could never pass the opportunity on venturing to new places.
With a new spring in his step, he jumped and said, "What are we waiting for?!"
Sprinting to the Field portal, he stopped when he noticed his friend heading in the opposite direction.
"Kane! Town portal's this way!"
He cupped his hand beside his mouth and yelled back; "We're not going through a portal!"
Jason's expression gave a slight shock.
Jogging back to Kane, he felt the need to ask; "How do we fight high level monsters without going through a portal?
Kane smiled as he replied.
"Maria."
He turned and pointed to the port where an elf stood in front of the lighthouse.
Jason had never noticed the structure there before.
"How long has that been there?"
"The Lighthouse or the Giant boat beside it?"
Still focused on the discovery of the lighthouse, Jason turned his head slightly to find a Giant vessel that took up nearly half the port.
"When did that get there?"
"It's never moved Jason."
"I see..." Still embarrassed, he asked again; "Never moved?"
"Nope."
"I see... And the lady elf-"
"They've been there for quite some time now Jason."
"I see... So is Maria taking us there on the Never moving boat?"
"Nope."
"Okay I'm sick of playing 20 questions, how are we getting there?"
"I already told you, Maria."
Standing still He replied, "It wouldn't kill you to give me a straight answer."
"Just follow me."
Unconvinced, he did as told. Within a short amount of time, they reached the Elven woman. Maria stood peacefully in front of the doors to the light house.
"Hello Kane. So good to see you again." She spoke with a friendly voice. Very poised and full of composure.
"Hey Maria, I was hoping to take Jason to the Sea of Greed today."
Acknowledging his request she held out both her palms face up.
"Passage for 2, coming up."
Confused still, Jason held his head to his forehead and closed his eyes to try to make heads or tails of the mystery he couldn't get.
"So... Exactly how do you-"
Before finishing his sentence, both Kane and Jason blinked out of Roumen.

Part 3
Location: The Sea of Greed
Jason and Kane blink into the scene...

In an island not far from Roumen, the 2 fighters re-appeared through a swirling rift off the shores.
"-Plan on getting us there?"
Jason's eyes re-opened to the sight of sand everywhere.
Jaw wide open, he sputtered out; "What just happened?"
"We were transported via teleportation spell. what did you think, we were gonna Ride Maria like a pony?"
"Hehe, of course not. That would be stupid..."
Over exaggerating the response, it was clear that was his exact thought.
With pride, Kane gestured a hand toward the land in front of him and said; "Anyways, welcome to the Sea of Greed."
"Isn't it like a beach? Shouldn't it be like the Beach of Greed? Or Greed Island? Something tropical, yet doom impending."
Ignoring his thought, Kane continued, "Moving on. Since we're less than 10 levels apart, you'll still get a fair amount of exp."
At this time Jason had reached level 9 and Kane was still 18.
"Alright! let's get slashing!"
"Hey Jay, ever hear of Mara the Pirate?"
Held up yet again by Kane's action-blocking conversation starters, he stopped and spun back around.
"That was random. I thought we were going to fight monsters."
"We will. But it's related to what we're going to fight today. So have you heard of her?"
"No. Why? Are we fighting pirates?"
"Yup. It was said that many years ago a mother gave birth to 2 children; Mara and Marlone. They were banished for-"
"Is this going to be long? I want to be finished before dinner."
"Would it kill you to learn something?"
"No, but it would take a while..."
Realizing how sadly true the statement was, they both agreed to move on.
An open field of experience points was at their disposal. The two spent what seemed like hours slashing and dicing away feeling a little too much joy killing them. Nevertheless, it was still joy. This is what Jason needed; Some time with his best friend. Ever since he joined the academy, it's been all work and no play. It felt good to kick back and fight with no concern of time limits or deadlines.
At the end of the day, both Jason and Kane sat at the shores of the Sea of Greed and reminisced of their past.
"So how much exp did you gain?" Kane asked.
Looking at his cufflink, he realized he had enough exp to level twice.
"Sweet, all caught up. Allison can do her stupid little quests. I can just train freely with you everyday!"
Kane gave a look of discouragement.
"Jason this was fun and all, but it can't happen all the time."
Jason's smile faded.
"Why not?"
" We both have teams that rely on us. As tedious as they seem, Quests are the best way to go, they help you grow as a party member, help pay for skills and gain fame."
Jason returned to his bummed out phase and lay back down with his head facing the skies. A small bird began to circle above them.
Breaking the silence, Kane thought aloud; "I seem to be seeing those kinds of birds a lot lately."
Turning to Jason with a positive face asked; "Do you know what they say about birds Jay?"
Annoyed but still interested he replied, "What about them?"
"They say that powerful mages are able to transform into them."
"Cool, what do fighters transform into?"
"No clue."
"What about archers and clerics?"
"Why must you make everything into a debate?"
Motioning to the sky Jason replied "Well you wanted to talk about birds, and I was curious if We could transform into something later-"
"It's gone."
"What?"
"The bird." Pointing to the area the bird used to be, both saw it had vanished.

Part 4
Location: Outskirts of the Forest of Slumber
A hooded man stands at the edge of a cliff

The small bird from the previous scene flew onto the man's shoulder.
Th man spoke with a velvet, yet deep voice. "Ahh good. I was afraid something had happened.
Hood covering everything but his lips, he continued to ask, "Have you found a suitable host?"
The tiny bird jerked it's head in a nodding motion.
"Excellent... If things go as planned. I will succeed where the previous have failed. And Isya will begin a new.

Part 1
Location: Roumen
Roumenous watches over...

Though seemingly Senile, roumenous was known for his valliant years of service for Isya back when he was young. He has been the town´s chief for almost 50 years now.

¨It´s so good to see fresh young faces in Roumen,¨ Roumenous said gleefully as the townsfolk live their everyday lives. Gazing over by the Lighthouse, he noticed Kane and a friend returning. As They passed by him, Roumenous welcomed their return with a cheery smile and wave.
¨Good Evening Kane,¨ peering over at Jason, welcoming him back as well. "And friend of Kane"
While Kane smiled back and waved, Jason leaned over and whispered in his ear, "Exactly who here doesn´t know you?"
"It´s called being social. You should try it sometime."
Giving this idea thought, Jason walked over to a few nearby girl Paladins. Doing as Kane did, he smiled and held out his hand
in a friendly gesture, "Hey, I´m Jason."
One of the 2 girls looked at him in disgust, "Great, like I don´t see enough fighter noobs everyday..."
The other scolded at her friend, "Jesse, don´t be so mean."
"I´m just sick of these damn academy members walking around asking people for free stuff and money. Well if you want money, you have to earn it"
The girl reached into he pocket and counted the change she had taken out.
"Okay kid, I´ll give you 10 silver if you dance like a monkey."
Figuring they misunderstood, Jason tried to explain himself, but was inturupted by the Jesse girl chanting "Dance, Monkey boy!"
Even her friend had begun to join in the humiliating taunt.

Meanwhile, back over at Roumenous, Kane was making small talk with the Chief.
"So you´re meeting with the GMs this afternoon?"
"Yes, all the town chiefs are. Not cause alarm, but I believe, there is corruption amongst us."
Kane looked concerned now, "Like spies?"
"I´m not completely sure yet, I hope I´m wrong though. Isya hasn´t been this peaceful in years. I´d hate to see it all go back into chaos..."
"Chief Roumenous!"
Roumenous turned his head to see a small archer of about Sora´s height signalling at Roumenous.
"Well, that´s my escort. I will return soon with good news I hope."
Before leaving, Kane shook his hand and wished Roumenous the best of luck.
Watching Roumenous leave, Kane didn´t notice that Kane had returned to his side.
¨So what were you guys talking about?"
"Oh, just politics and junk. Sorry I kind of ignored you for a while there..."
"It´s cool. I took your advise and was being social."
"Good for you Jay. You got to know people?"
¨Not really, but I made 24 silver and... 486 copper!"
"Impressive for your level, what did you do to get it?"
"Just give up a little dignity, nothing to valuable..."

Part 2
Location: Bera
5 GMs and 5 Town chiefs are seated to discuss concerns.

Among this council of 10, sat Isya´s strongest defenders,

Town chief Roumenous: Defender of Roumen.
Guard Captain Shutian: Defender of Elderine.
Town Chief Adrian: Defender of Uruga.
Alberstol Chief Kiera: Defender of the Ruins.
Town Chief Valiere: Defender of Bera.

The other half consisted of the 5 GMs:

Judas: Sharpshooter Class. Isya´s youngest GM. Wise beyond his years, Judas is still a child. Only 12 years old, He has been on the council for 3 years now.
Clare: Guardian Class. A Very kind and wise woman. She is the best healer in Isya by far. Used to be an ancient templar before joining the GMs 15 years ago.
Salem: Gladiator Class. Head GM and has been so for 11 years.
Scarlett: Warlock Class. An eccentric woman with very unusual outlooks on situations. It is never certain what she is thinking. Joined the GMs this year.
Derek: Knight Class. Loyal to Salem and will not speak unless spoken too. Has a very obedient mind set. Has been with the GMs for 2 years.

Salem began the meeting as always with welcoming and thanking all participants for coming.

"Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to meet here today."
Kiera replied back, "I´d hardly call it busy. Nothing really happens in Alberstol."
Salem continued on, "Irregardless, I thank you all the same."
Taking out some papers he had written on previously and began.
"I´ll begin with the least concerning and make my way up... First order of Business: Slime season is a less then a week away."
Looking over at Roumenous, he asked; "Roumenous, are the academy members prepared?"
"All 20slots have been filled with Isya´s newest and brightest. Transportation to cyclone hill is being negotiated as we speak."
"Excellent. Next order of business; OSKI has reported there are an unusual increases in monsters arising in the Sea of Greed."
Salem´s focus now went to Shutian. "Any thoughts Shutian?"
Speaking with his powerful voice, he replied back, "Nothing to be concerned with. Monsters from Forest of Mist must be lurking around the portals again. I´ll take care of it."

"Thank you captain. Third order: More tricksters have been spotted in Forest regions."
Since the outlawing of tricksters a decade ago, it is illegal for them to set foot on Isyan soil. If spotted, they will be arrested, and if capture is refused, execution.
"If I could inturrupt."
All eyes lay to the speaker: Clare.
Salem put down his papers and let Clare have the floor.
"I think tricksters should be allowed to roam free in Isya again.
Shocked faces were shared all around.
"It´s been almost 10 years, and I fear we´re going to make this class extinct."
"Clare... The tricksters are banished for a reason. They tried to overthrow Isya."
"That was never proven!"
"Ellie admitted to it, Clare. It was hard for me to accept too, but she had to be stopped."
10 years ago, Ellie was the Trickster GM for Isya. At the time, Salem and Clare were on the council and were good friends. One day, an army of tricksters had gathered to get rid of the GMs.
Ellie had confessed to starting a rebellion to overthrow the GMs with all tricksters. She was captured for questioning but escaped less then 24 hours later. She has never been seen since.
After that incident, the 5th member on the GM council has been filled by alternating classes.
Judas spoke up as well.
"I agree with Clare. Whether or not some tricksters have been corrupted, it doesn´t mean, we can´t start out fresh.¨
Resilliant to the idea, Salem agreed to consider the Notion.
Many whispers surrounding the issue were passed around the chiefs.
Changing the subject, Salem spoke up once again, "Final order of business... The wanted mage: Rye."
All members went silent.
Rye was charged with dealing with a forbidden training technique called Powerleveling.
Powerleveling consisted of some one under the level 50 going into a difficult field (25+ levels above their own) without a party, to increase EXP gain.
This method was considered immoral and was forbidden after one person became so powerful from the method, they wer able to control monsters in the field.

Scarlett claimed she spotted him in the Forest of Slumber. I recommend a small search party go there to investigate. All those in favor?"
The desision was unanimous as all participants raised their hands.
"It´s settled then. Tomorrow, I will send out a party. As always, please do not breathe a word of what we speak here. Council Dismissed."

Part 1
Location: Forest of Mist
Team B meets bright and early for a new quest!

Jason arrives late as usual to find his other 3 comrades already on time.
"Sorry I´m late... I-"
"Honestly Jason, I don´t really care today."
"But I have a really good excuse! You see, there was this phino, and he-"
"I said drop it."
Irritated but eager to start, Jason put a lid on it.
Taking a scroll from her back pocket, Allison laid it on a stump to show the others.
"What the heck is Slime season?"
"It´s a great opportunity for academy members like us. We´re taken away to a place far from Isya to slay monsters. Just like our first assignment, there´s a time limit. Also we´ll have 3 lives, which means we can fight 3 times longer than normally!"
She looked up to Jason, "Hear that? Now you can last 30 seconds instead of 10."
Discouraged, Jason muttered out "Harsh..."
"Anyways, the monsters there are strong, so I brought along 2 quests so we can train twice as fast. The event is the day after tomorrow, so we need all the strength we can get. Last I checked, we´re all level 12, so I propose-"
"Actually, I´m 13."
Surprised, Allison couldn´t help but ask, "Seriously? You were level 9, last time I checked"
Jason nodded. "Yup. Got the concussive charge ability yesterday. Now I can slice, dice, and stun!"
"That´s great Jason."
Pleased to see some positive reinforcement, the fighter grinned.
"We´ll give you most of the work, so we´ll finish faster."
Once again, his grin faded. Everytime he thought the cleric was complimenting him, it would only last a second before turning on him...
"Today since we´re all here, I thought we´d start off easy and just kill some ratmen."
Sora shuddered, "Oh god, not again... I´m still not convinced we could take those."
"Sora, that was a Ratman Fighter. These are weaker."
She pointed to the ratmen across the bridge who were smaller with darker fur than the larger one they faced.
"Oh... I knew that..."
"Anyways, these quests are repeatable, so we can do them a long as we want. We´ll split up and-"
"How come you always want to split up?"
"Dammit Jason, will you let me finish a sentence!"
"It´s just everytime I´m here you want to split up. Your kind of missing the whole point of being on a team."
"I choose to split up, because everytime, I´m paired up with you, I have to do 4 times as much work to keep us from failing. I choose to split up, because without you, I can do work much faster. But most iomportantly, I choose to split up, because everytime you open your mouth, I want to bash you in the head with my mace!"
Feeling very hurt, Jason rolled up the Slime Season scroll and said, "Fine." putting the scroll into his bag, he added "We´ll split up."
Trying to keep his head up he headed across the bridge further into the forest.
"Hey, you sure that was smart? I mean Jay really looked bummed about what you said."
"If I´m not hard on him, no one will be. The sooner he gets serious, the sooner teamwork will kick in."
"Hope your right..."
A small breeze passed them as Sora felt the need to ask, "I wonder what happened to the Phino?"

Part 2
Location: Forest of Mist
Jason lays in his thinking spot.

Finishing early on his surprisingly easy half, Jason lay on his back feeling gloomy after his little lecture.
He had worked hard, gotten stonger, even finished his quest early for once. He took this time to reflect on his past mistakes and could see why he was being yelled at. He was so focused on the goal he didn´t consider looking out for his team mates. The speedy slimes, Ratman fighter... Everything began to sink in.
Time passed and eventually Jason lost track of time. He kept fooling around with the mini Slime pet Allison gave hium to communicate with. He didn´t really feel much like talking to anyone. He just wanted to drift off to sleep.
Before given the chance, a monotonic voice was heard from behind him.
"Kane?"
Still on his back, Jason opened his eyes slightly.
"Hmmm?" he asked blantely as he rubbed his eyes.
"My mistake. You look similar. Almost like a younger counterpart."
Yawning, just to try to go b ack to sleep, he replied; "Yah.. sorry, no Kane here."
"I see. Where is he then?"
Angry at the stranger now, Jason slummed his way to stand while still speaking.
"Look, I don´t know where he is. Why do you even..."
Jason stood fully erect at the stranger now who left him speechless.
The voice belonged to an elf with wild, black hair. His eyes were like those that only cats had, and his face was covered with what semed to be black scars that were painted on his face.
"Care..."
"I´m going to go ahead and assume you don´t know. Oh well..."
As the man turned to walk away, Jason drew his sword.
"What do you want with Kane?"
"So you do know him..."
"Whats it to you?"
"He and I need to have a little chat."
"Who the hell are you?!"
Ignoring his question, he continued to stare at Jason who was steady as a rock.
"Put that away, you couldn´t kill me even if you wanted to..."
"Yah... That means you can´t touch me either. That leaves us at a draw tough guy!"
His chuckled expression quickly turned serious.
"I don´t do stalemates..."
With one hand facing downwards, he raised his wrist and softly spoke. ¨Resurrection..."
Skeleton hands began to rise from the ground where Jason stood, followed by the rest of their undead bodies.
"This is the part where you run away..."
Confused on his next move, Jason ran. This proved to be unaffective as the absense of skin and flesh only made them faster.
Hoping he had outrun them, he looked back only to find them catching up. And with weapons.
"Swords?! Where´d they get swords?!"
Jasons speed was not enough. One of the skeletons had sped ahead and cut him off.
The elf too, had reached him.
"After you respawn, I want you to deliver a message to Kane for me."
Jason didn´t understand. "What do you mean re-UAGGH!"
The fighter was stabbed by the sword of one of the undead soldiers.
His eyes half opened before blacking out, he caught a last glimpse of his attacker.
"An old friend is looking for him..."
His words faded as Jason blacked out.

Part 3
Location: Unknown

Sprawled out on the ground, Jason opened his eyes to find himself surrounded by mist. Foggy atmopsphere, Eerie silence, endless walking wherever direction you went. He recognised it instantly as the In-between. Yet that wasn´t what he was focused on. He was just killed by some one who was a powerhouse AND knew Kane. This mage could summon skeletons and there was just something really dark about him...
"Was that Rye?" Jason asked himself out loud.
Amidst his thinking he felt the area around him start to get colder. Grim was nearby.
Keeping guard, he didn´t know how or where he would pop up.
"Brrrrrrrr, it´s so cold!"
Jason spun around to the voice behind him. It wasn´t grim though. An elven girl with pink hair and big eyes stood in front of him.
"Hey. Do you know where we are now? I asked some hooded guy, but he told me to ask the red head."
She looked around and behind Jason.
"I think your the only one fitting that description for miles..."
He didn´t know where to start.
"Ummm-"
"Oh, how rude of me! I´m Sloane."
With a smile, she held out her hand to shake his.
"Sloane the archer!"
The bow she held made it sort of obvious. In an effort not to seem rude, he returned the introduction.
He held out his hand and to counter her hand shake and said, "Jason."
The cheery girl seemed harmless enough. Just another newbie like him. The only thing that bugged him was the tight grip she had on his hand.
"Back to what I asked before, where are we?"
Once again Jason drew a blank. This sweet girl had just died with no clue. He figured despite hurting her feelings, she needed to know the truth.
"Well... You´re kind of dead."
Sloane´s eyes remained unchanged. She put her index fingers and stared around for a few seconds.
"So did I make it into heaven or hell? With all the smoke I can´t really tell..."
Jason envied her. His first death experience was excruciating. She just went ahead and accepted it.
To avoid further confusion, he explained to Sloane what Grim had told him previously.
"So I just push the warp button then?"
"Pretty much." he replied.
Before choosing to warp back, she hesitated.
"You´re from the Roumen academy, right?"
Jason´s eyes widened at her estimate.
"Yah."
"I´m from the Sand hill camp site. 8 students from our camp are entering the Slime event along with the 12 from your academy. I´m only level 8 and wanted to get some extra training in. Guess I kinda overdid it."
"I didn´t know there were other academies."
"Oh yeah. There are new recruits everyday. They gotta go somewhere. Anywho, I gotta jet. Seeya Jason!"
He gave a friendly wave and watched Sloane fade away.

"Thanks Red."
Grim´s voice had eachoed from just a few feet away.
"You were here the whole time?"
"Yup. Didn´t want to deal with anymore noobs for today. Hey! Why don´t you stay dead? You could be my customer support! Explaining death so I don´t have to."
"Think I´ll pass," he denied politely.
"Well, I owe you one. Of course, that does´nt mean I´ll kill people for you or grant immortality or anything like that."
"A favour from the Grim Reaper... Think I´ll hold on to that."
"Hey, Not like I´m going anywhere...So what killed you this time? Boars? Boogies?"
"A mage."
"Well that makes no sense."
" Well he didn´t exactly kill me, a bunch of skeletons did. You see he did this spell where-"
"Summon. The mage that killed you must have been one powerful wizard to cast that spell. You know his name? Whether he kills you or his undead minions kill you, humans and elves can´t hurt each other in the fields. If you know the guy´s name, I could track him down for you."
Jason wanted to tell him that it might by Rye. But he felt Kane should be the first to know, before any legal action was taken.
"Not really. It all happened kinda fast."
"That´s a shame. Well I hope next time you die, it will be your own fault."
"Umm... Thanks?"
Pushing the Warp button, Jason waved as he blinked out of the In-Between.

Part 1
Location: Roumen
The Day before The Slime season event...

After his recent meeting with Grim, Jason left to Roumen to turn in his quests. Despite only completing it once, Jason informed the rest of his team that he was done for the day, and told them to continue without him.
The following morning, Jason began searching for Kane to tell him of his supposed encounter with Rye. Asking the merchants in Roumen, none knew of his whereabouts.
Before confronting Roumenous on the issue, Allison stood in his way.
"Oh crap..."
Since the day prior, he felt uncomfortable around Allison now. Knowing how she felt about him, talking with her suddenly felt awkward.
"What happened to you yesterday?"
Despite her opinion of him, her voice remained calm and concerned.
"Something came up that I couldn´t get out of... I know how you hate excuses so I won´t bother you with the details."
She nodded and began to show a bit of displeasure.
"Something wrong?"
"I was kind of out of line yesterday."
Her sudden confession caught him off guard.
"So I´m not a pain?"
"Oh no, your still a pain. But the way I worded it was austere."
"Oh..."
He had been saying that a lot lately. Today´s reason was for his misunderstanding of the word austere.
"Jason, I know at most times I may seem like I´m trying to pick on you, but I´m only trying to make you see that if you want to get stronger and succeed, you have to stop being childish, and start taking things seriously. It´s as if you never listen, and..."
Though he was listening, her words slowly faded as he put his focus elsewhere. Particularely her shield. There was a large gaping tear from the Ratman fighter days before.
"You´re not even listening are you?"
Snapping his focus back on Allison, he blankly stared at her.
"Allison. I´ll be back in 10 minutes..."
Dashing in around her, Jason had priorities he needed to take care of before wasting anymore time.
"Jason!! This is exactly what I mean by never listen!!!"
His arms swung back and forth, trying to think where Kane could be.
Speaking softly to himself, possibilities raced his mind.
"Something about Mara..."

Part 2
Location: Sea of Greed
Flashbacking to their Sea of Greed venture, Jason began recalling his conversation with Kane,

"It's gone."
"What?"
"The bird." Pointing to the area the bird used to be, both saw it had vanished.
"Wonder what it was even doing here..."
"Probably dropping a load somewhere..".
"What an elegant deduction."
Jason checked his cuff link.
¨Finished earlier than expected, anything you want to do?" he stared at Kane waiting for an answer
"Nothing comes to mind. My only goal was to search for Mara. You know, the one you didn´t care to hear about."
"I still don´t. But since you helped me out today, I´ll listen."
Kane sat up and crossed his legs to stare at the reast of the beach.
"25 years ago, two children their mother woman were banished from Roumen... Their mother was said to have been involved in some sort of conspiracy with a Karasian templar."
"How interesting..." Jason though laid back, seemed interested in hearing more
"What was the conspiracy?"
"What else? Take down the GMs and rule Isya. Same thing that happened 10 years ago."
The thought that sunk deep into Jason´s head was how he wasn´t aware of any of this happening. Where was he when this all took place?
"Rumours say that the 2 children; Mara and Marlone, are out for revenge and have been hiding, waiting for the right time to strike. Mara hides among the pirates and Marlone blends in with the bandits."
"So why are you trying to find this mara chick? She do something to you?"
Kane remained serious, "No... But pirates are even more informed than the OSKI and know a lot that goes on in Isya...I´m trying to find something out"
Jason let out a loud yawn.
"YAAAAAWWWWN. Well I hope you find what your looking for buddy."

Fast forwarding to the present, Jason had re-entered the Sea of Greed. With his heart beating faster, he looked around and hoped to find his friend.
He began racing across the sand, ignoring all monsters and pirates surrounding him.
After minutes of searching, he spotted him across the bridge to a small patch of beach almost 20 feet away.
"Kane!"
The fighter spun around to find Jason racing towards him.
"What are you doing here?" He looked crossed and disappointed of his arrival.
Catching his breath he wheezed out "It´s about ·gasp· Rye..."
Kane´s eyes twinged slightly.
"Jay, Rye´s dead. You know that."
"You don´t have to lie. Grand master Sean told me everything."
Kane stood back in shock.
"The guy killed me in Forest of Mist. He summoned these skeletons and-"
"What did he look like?" Serious still, Kane needed to know more.
Trying to remember his face from memory, he closed his eyes and started listing features, "Ummm.. Black hair, yellow eyes, these.. dark scars on his face-"
Kane, now convinced, took hold of both Jason´s arms and shook him.
"Have you told anyone else about this?!"
Jason was, for once, speechless. He had never seen his friend so on edge.
"N-no..."
Kane´s grip loosened.
"Did he say or do anything before killing you?"
Jason thought back...
"I want you to deliver a message to Kane for me... Tell him an old friend is looking for him..."
He saw the intensity in Kane´s eyes. He wasn´t sure if leading him further to find Rye was such a good idea.
"What did he say?!"
His grip re-tightened and voice grew louder.
"Rye said..."
"Rye, Rye, Rye, Rye, Rye, that´s all I ever hear lately."
A woman´s soft voice interrupted.
Kane spun to where the voice was coming from. Jason too looked in anticipation.
A barely see-able figure was shrouded amongst the large plant life.
Jason drew out his sword and called out, "Get out here!"
"Cool it, Hot-head. I have nothing to hide..."
The figure emerged dressed in white apparel. Her green hair covered half her face and was covered by a white captain hat. Her left hand was replaced by a hook and her right leg, with a peg.
There was now presumption. Jason knew who this was. This was Mara.

Part 3
Location: Sea of Greed
Jason and Kane stare down the Infamous Mara.

"Now why would 2 low level fighters such as yourselves want with the Rye?"
Jason seemed intimidated while Kane remained angrilly silent.
"The bounty on his head maybe? Or are you just a couple of fanboys?"
Agitated, Jason tensed up, but Kane held him back and stepped forward.
"Rye is an old friend of mine. I´ve been trying to find him for a while now..."
"I suppose that would make you the Best friend fighter and well known Isyan citizen, Kane."
She turned her attention to Jason.
"And this is your monkey boy sidekick, Jason"
He remained baffled that she knew their identities.
Turning back to Kane, she claimed, "I think I know why you want to find him..."
Kane stood straight and allowed her to continue. "Tell on..."
"You feel that even though, he´s presumably turned evil, wanted to be imprisoned and created such a horrible reputation for himself, that you can still convince him to stay."
Kane´s eyes fell to the floor.
"Well I can tell you this: People like your mage friend are power hungry. Gluttonous in fact, that they will do anything to do it. I won´t deny I´m somewhat of a power hog myself, but I am far more patient-"
"That´s enough!"
After being silent for so long, Jason spoke up.
"Now you tell us what you know or I´ll slay you where you stand."
Mara became hysterical "Hahaha, slay me he says...My dear boy, slaying me would not help in the slightest. You se I have this funny way of returning from the grave..."
She took off her hat and began admiring it. "Almost spooky you might say..." She ran her pale fingers over the Pink Skull on her hat.
Placing it back on her head she added, "But if your searching for Rye, then I have some good knews.. He too is searching for you..."
She turned to the battle ready Jason. "Isn´t that right?"
Kane turned to his friend for confirmation. Jason lowered his head and nodded slowly.
"But the problem is that he can´t enter large crowded areas and you can´t enter high leveled areas. So that leaves one to wonder... If only there was a place where you 2 could meet uninterupted..."
Her voice now began to sound exagerated.
"A special, exclusive place that only you 2 could meet and talk... Away from the OSKI andeveryone else..."
She was now staring directly into Kane´s eyes. He knew what she meant.
"Like I said..." she said, turning back to Jason, "If only..."
Jason didn´t understand what she was talking about or why she turned to him to say it.
She walked in the opposite direction back from the place she emerged...
"Hey! Come back-"
"Let her go Jason!"
He hesitated...
"I found out what I needed to know..."
Kane to turned around to head back to Roumen.
"Where are you going now?"
"Just go home Jason... This doesn´t concern you."
"What are you talking about! This completely concerns me. I´m not letting you face him on your own!"
"I´ll be fine. Just promise you won´t tell anyone that you saw him..."
"But Kane, I-"
"Promise!"
Jason face saddened.
"I promise.."
Kane yelled back at Mara, "That goes for you to Pirate!"
She didn´t reply.
Looking back at Jason he said, "Get some rest. Ill see you tommorow at the Slime Season opening."
Walking away again, he left Jason alone.
"Fantastic..."
Mara spoke from behind him again, "Before you go dozing off, shouldn´t you be somewhere?"
Jason hit his forehead. "Crap..."

Part 4
Location: Roumen
Allison is still waiting by the fountain...

Jason dashed towards the cleric trying to speak but was still trying to catch his breath.
"Save it. I waited 2 hours thinking that maybe you had to be gone for so long for a good reason... But I´ll bet you a thousand silver you just forgot."
Jason stayed quiet in embarrassment.
"I figured as much. Now if you´ll excuse me, I´m going home."
As she began walking past him, he managed to blurt out;
"I have a good reason!"
She turned around and watched him pull a glowing shield from his bag.
"The first hour was a personal thing, but the second one I used trying to enhance this."
He held out the shield hoping she would take it.
"You realize this is a cleric shield..."
"I know. It´s sort of an apology gift to everything I put you through. I noticed your shield was broken from the Ratman incident and thought you could use a new one for Slime Season. I made some money earlier and figure I´d put it to good use."
He picked up his bag and said respectfully, "Sorry for wasting your time..."
He then walked around her to return home. Watching him leave out of site, Allison stared at the enhanced gift she was given and gave a slight blush.
