As soon as the updating process start, It says processing... then I get this message saying "Xenclient.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"
What does this mean, And what do I have to do to play?
EDIT: Also it says "Runtime error 217 at 00003316"

Mmm, me as well. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is either. I guess our best bet is to wait until a GM or Admin comes along and straightens this issue out... though they've got quite a handful of other bugs/issues too. >_< In any case, hope it is resolved soon.

yeh same here ppl...but before the update starts, it gives me
ur OpenGl should be 1.2 or more than that..check which one u have...the game might not function properly..continue anyways? whn i click yes, the update process start but closes in a sec or two.an i get the same msg u all do...
any advices ppl?

well when i go into I/Program files and stuff and to Outspark Launcher and i double click the .exe it opens and when i log in its liek its a obsolete version, how do i update?

that happens to me too for fiesta. now when i put in my info for sos it tries to update for a second in the top left it will say 1.1.1 i guess thats the launcher version but it says notice: log in and takes me back.

Well i've got sth here that'll interest u all...
Firstly, whn u download the SOS client, an obsolete version of Fiesta is also present with it..the client of SOS is completely fine..
Secondly, abt the problem stated in the topic i.e Xenclient.exe encountered a problem....i updated my driver...Updated meaning i just installed a newer version of the past one..like for instance...if u have an older version of a Radeon driver..install the driver of that same company or whtever...dun worry abt the openGL..just install the improved version of ur driver and the prob with openGL is automatically solved...
So whn i updated my driver, the game's runnin smoothly...we can clear these kinda things ourselves...so hope this helps u all...

The black screen problem is occuring to ALLOT of people. I assume it is a fault with the program itself, (could it be it is not fully compatible with the new OpenGL drivers it so desperately wants you to have?:p) but in any case the only solution is to wait till the GMs or CSRs give us a workaround or they update the game.....I know, it blows and is not what you want to hear, but I have been trying to help allot of people and this is the conclusion I have come to. (There is no sticky on the board for this problem yet but I am sure once the GMs and CSRs come back from the weekend they will likely make one:p)

Well, it's monday and what did you want, they should just magically fix it for you with a snap of their fingers? I am sure they are working on it, but figuring this stuff out can be frustrating and time consuming, especially if you don't know the cause. Which is why we need to help them out by giving them as much info as possible and being patient. And as far as 1/4 of the board not being able to play...your in the troubleshooting board....of course they can't thats what the board is for in the first place. I am ON SoS as I type and I can tell you there are plenty of people on. And about working on the game to make it better...are you serious....I should hope they are working on it to make it better...sheesh! Oh, and btw, what have you done to help out so far?

Yes, updating your video card is the only way to get an up to date opengl driver. That said, if you are experiencing a runtime error 217 like the OP then you are likely not experiencing a graphics problem...if you are having the black screen thing, well this is an ongoing issue, but it's starting to look like it may be that many cards are simply incompatible with the game....Although DO NOT quote me on this as I have no idea, it's just a personal assumption. As far as the black screen error try to post more info like system information and run dxdiag or msinfo32 from your command prompt by pressing your system/windows key and r at the same time to open the prompt, then typing either dxdiag and enter for the direct x diagnostic tool, or msinfo32 for the windows system information info. This will allow you to answer any questions from GMs or CSRs about your system, and please use this info when posting about your problem. Also, be sure to explain the problem well. Most people just post "I cant get it to work, the screen goes black" or something, but a better way would be to post exactly when the screen goes black, at what point was the program running (update, login, loading screen, ingame etc.) and any other information you can provide about an error. As for the runtime error, a runtime error is an exception during the loading of a program (the runtime) and can be caused by many things, but in this case is most likely caused by a corrupt installation of SoS or a failure of the dlls it needs to install to be registered correctly with the OS. It can also be cause by a damage or incorrect registry, regional settings on your comp that are incorrect, or your windows OS is out of date...and you need to update it...Soooo up date your windows operating system using windows update or whatever its called now...which should be on automatically update anyway...and reinstall Sos. If that doesn't help then explain your problem in more detail with the above methods and be patient while the Outspark staff looks in to it...hope this helps:D

well...i post a thread that mentions the exact same thing of this problem that im currently having...and i cant believe it that soo many pplz even got the same probz...well i just hope the GMs can fix it though...knowing the pressure of the GMs to fix all players in the game suffering the same thing

actually the GM's arent the ones fixing the problems.
the CSR's will help you anyway they can while the developers will fix problems and add new things to the game

CSR = Community service manager, however some are also called CM's (Community Manager's) there pretty much the same thing.
They'll deal with any questions you have and will help in figuring out any problems running the game you may have

I experienced this problem before, then i tried to restart my laptop, Its works!!!
But my friend laptop/pc that have this problem cant start the game even if restart or re-install, im still trying to find a solution though

Uhm~ I did update my driver, but, it still didn't work. n_n; Maybe it's because it's pretty old. (NVIDIA Riva TNT2 Model 64) xD~

hey all..no worries..well i think ur were right abt that restarting one..cause usually my comp is on 24/7 (mostly) so i had to change my kebored thsi morning..so had to turn it off..whn i started the game again..after the updates it was workin smoothly..:)

Well guys im very new to this game and my bro downloaded it to his Laptop and im trying to get it. The same fricking message comes up if a GM comes PLEASE SOLVE OUR PROBLEM. I did reinstall n restart.. i did alot but it still jumps out.I login in and came to the character choosing session.Once I clicked on the charc,it jumps out.Whereas,there another desktop beside me which is played by my friend.. it doesn't affect at all.How come these problems had been issued but there's no respond?

Wow, I never got to the Character selection/server selection screen~ Just as soon as I logged in and the patcher finished, the "Xenclient.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close..." window immediately surfaced. My other friend also said our Xenclient.exe files were exactly the same, and he was unsure as to why it wasn't functioning properly for my computer.
Quite frankly, I have no idea why no one has said a word (that being the higher-ups) about this at all. It's been going on for weeks. I really don't intend to come off as some impatient ingrate.. but I really wouldn't mind just maybe a post simply stating something along the lines of "We're working on it," or "We know," (both of which would suffice.) I don't mean to interrupt their work, but... wouldn't it be a better move to take just 5 seconds to post something along those lines?
It would create less confusion among the masses (who also share this common issue)... I hope. xD Well, at least it would make me feel like I'm -actually- hoping for -something.- Also, it may prevent some duplicate threads pertaining to the same issue at hand. =B Less clutter is always good~! n_n

Alright guys for all you experiencing open gl issues, the gms have already answered your question if you can read the troubleshooting page. -.- All you need to do is update your driver to the MOST CURRENT ONE!!!! This solves open gl problems and black/white screen backround in game. If you need to update your driver, go to the free download page and click one of the graphic cards. If your driver is the most updated driver but it still does not work, it is probably not supported by Secret of the Solstice/ Outspark. So i repeat, if you have open gl or log on issues, update your driver or by a new graphic card. If it does not work then install a new supported graphic card like nvidia or if all else fails, buy a new computer.

i had the same problem as everyone else on this thread. what i did was uninstall anything related to this game.. outspark, fiesta, sos. then i reinstalled sos and voila everything works again

EVERY SINGLE TIME! i mean im not saying this is on the top of the gm/cm's list...but im close to becoming a disciple...and i really wanna play! im currently downloading the game for the fourth time...so ill keep ya updated. ): :/

I had the same problem but it fixed after i uninstalled the game from control panel.add/remove programs after uninstalling I went to C:\Program Files and i deleted the outspark folder then i went to start > all programs > Accessories > System Tools and open disk clean up after it scans check that temporry internet files is checked. Then after that is done I restarted the computer. then I downloaded and installed the lastest download from the soltice page. and I didn't get that anymore. I got that problem down.... now i need help with my characters when i choose my character all i see is 3 green squares and thats it i can stilll hear the music and other players spawning thiss sucks i want to play really bad plz help anyone.. GM?

i had the same problem, and what i did, i uninstalled the game (remove program) then, used the last client i downloaded (1.27 i think), then, reinstalled the game, and let it DL the patch again, then it worked!!!

I'm going to guess you are using Norton? Sometimes after updating the game the modifications it makes to one of the files alerts your antivirus. It's a false reading. If possible try to use your antivirus to retrieve the removed executable. If you can't then i'm afraid you will have to reinstall.

I've had that same problem here too for months on end. I can download the whole entire thing, and then right as the black box is coming up and the last little sentence appears to get me into solstice, it crashes and says it's encountered a problem, and needs to send an error report. But no matter how many error reports I send over the course of months, nothing is ever resolved.
