The Class
First off, what is a fighter you ask? It is the class in Fiesta Online which uses the swords, axes, and two handed swords to fight with various monsters and players with. Known as being backbones to most parties, fighters come equipped with many different skills which allow them to handle large amounts of monsters with ease.
~The Word Tanking~
As in most online games fighters can be known as the Tank. They are basically the type of player who runs up to a monster and takes all the damage, and you can see this most often being done in a party. Sounds simple? Wrong! You can't just run up to all monsters, you have to be prepared!
How to get started
First off builds!
[Please note any fighter with any build can truly tank, with the right equips and items some can do even better then the other builds as well. However, in most situations a pure END is seen as the tanking build of choice. This is when your considering the extra Hp and defense it adds. This doesn't mean the other builds cannot do that type of tanking that full End build can do. It just means some are more useful for tanking while others need an extra boost from items to achieve what a full END tanker can handle.]
~The all END build~
Ah, the full End tank. Savor of the Kingdom Questers and AoE Tank extraordiair. This build almost always gets guaranties you a party, even with your slightly lower damage, your high Hp and Def will have you taking on monsters many levels above your own. Be warned though, at high levels this build can be heavily party reliant.
~The 25 Spirit Rest End build~
Feel like your not getting enough critical in your daily diet of killed monsters? No need to fear, 25 Spr is here! Adding 25 Spr to your build may not seem like much, but combined with various critical boosting items and, if you can afford it, cash shop critical sets, then you shall be scoring critical much more often then before. You can still very well tank with this build, but you will lose a bit of Hp by opting for the 25 Spr. So taking a few defense and vit scrolls when your tanking is always a good choice.
~The Pure Str Build~
Otherwise known as the Damage Dealer [DD] build. This build is known for its brute attack force and lower Hp. It may not seem useful as a tank build but given the right equips, buffs, and scrolls, this build can handle a few monsters. Though one may find that it is better if a DD fighter is in a party with another Tank built fighter handling the monsters. This is so the DD fighter can spam stun to achieve what is know as Chain Stunning.
~The 25 Spirit Rest Str Build~
And last but not least the Player vs Player[PvP] or DD build known as 25 Spr full Str build. Much like a full Str fighter it can't take as many hits as a tank. But with the proper tools it can certainly handle monsters on its own. What this build does add is a nice Critical boost to a Str build. Which when added in with an fighter spamming skills in pvp can be quite deadly.
-Note-
[I]Now there are not only these four builds, but many different builds in fiesta waiting to be tested out. These are just some of the more common ones going around, However there are many variations out there waiting to be discovered. Remember no matter what build you are you will never need the Int stat.
The Weapons
~The One-handed Sword and Shield~: Known as the tanker's best friend, you will most commonly see a Full End fighter using this weapon of choice. Even if you’re a DD fighter it would be wise to carry a set of these around for when your tank may happen to die. Or you become stuck in a situation that requires you to need a bit more defense.
~The Two-handed Sword~:Now Two handed swords are often seen as a balance between the One handed Sword and the Axe. It does hit faster then an axe, but when it comes down to critical dealing and damage the axe has the upper hand. But the two handed sword can be useful to tanking if you bring the right scrolls. However it does not add defense, no matter what situation your in.
~The Axe~: The Axe is the slowest weapon in the game. But its high critical percentage and raw damage can make up for it. It is also known as the DD fighter's main weapon of choice. This weapon isn't used as much for tanking, but if your equipped right it can be great in just about any situation. It is also great for skill spamming during guild wars.
-Note-
These are just a weapons best uses from what info I’ve gathered. The extent of their different uses can be quite different from what I’ve posted.
First Steps
You have created your first fighter, done your first quests, equipped your sword, and went off into the world? So now your ready to tank for a party right!? Not just yet! First you must learn the way of the Solo grinder. This is how most starting players will level in the beginning by killing a monster and taking breaks in your house in between each few kills. It is rather slow at times, but this way will save a bit more money for you. Rather then buying a ton of potions. It is best to have a few stones and potions at hand though. Just in-case you stumble into some trouble while grinding. Money may seem hard to get at first, but just keep gathering the drops and npcing them. Soon enough you should make enough money to afford your basic skills and items. Such as Slice and Dice, Bone Slicer, and Fatal Slash. Do remember it would be best not to use an skill points on any of your skills just yet. As these can be spent more wisely when your more certain of your build and what type of weapon you want to use in the future. And soon enough you will get your first tank skill Snearing Kick. This skill takes the monsters aggro off some one else and places it onto you.[Ex: A monster is heading toward some one in your party. You use Snearing kick while targeting the monster and it instead runs toward you and starts attacking.]
And with this skill the start of your tanking life! :3
~The Kingdom Quest~ Slime
"Sigh" The old KQ days. Full of people shouting for revives and dead clerics all around. But that is why your looking at this thread right? To avoid getting your Kingdom Quest party killed I should hope.
-Note- I'll be using a End fighter as an example for many of these situations, however I shall add tips for non End fighters later in the guide..
Also for you to become a decent tank, complete and utter devotion to the Master, [GM]Steam is required. If you lack this devotion, you will fail utterly.
-Note- Yea...you will need that too :3
~As I was saying~
Right when you get into the KQ itself the best thing for you to do is to announce that you will be the one tanking it. This is so the Clerics know exactly who to focus their heals on and it helps the others organize into groups as well. Now as the tank you are expected to run ahead of the parties and attack monsters while taking the damage. Also if you see an archer, cleric, or mage being attacked by a monster it would be best to use Snearing Kick to get the monster off them. This is because in Slime KQ there are no revives. So it's best not to let anyone die. Now lets say your group of parties makes it to the king slime, now its time for the boss tanking to take place.
-Note- If you find you are taking to much damage from the King Slime or the monsters in the KQ it would be best to spare some money and pick up a Vit and Def scroll. It makes it a lot easier on the clerics and helps assure you will not die so easily when the king starts spawning monsters.
It's best that before fighting the king slime that all members of the KQ rest up beforehand to make sure no one dies quicky due to previous damage. And be sure that your clerics are a safe distance away from the King Slime, as it will start summoning mobs close to it right before its defeat. Also while fighting it be sure to spam the skill Snearing Kick on the king every time it cools down. This will make sure no other player in the kq accidentally pulls the king away from you. Keep at this till the end were the King will summon the queen and prince slimes. Just keep attacking the king and ignore the mobs at the moment, as they will be much easier to deal with when the king is down. After the king falls at last and you take the last mob down you can reap your reward and exp. Vola!, you have survived your first KQ as a tanker.
~The Kingdom Quest~ Mara Part 1
Back, and with some more experience this time around eh?
Well don't get too sure of yourself because Mara KQ is handled in a quite different manner then the one before it. As with Slime KQ be sure to inform your fellow KQ members that you are the one tanking. Now here where it gets a bit different.

~The Kingdom Quest~ Mara Part 2
This KQ is often handled in a rush type fashion. What is rushing you ask? It is when all the tanks run ahead of the other KQ members following behind, and pull the monsters ahead with them. Away from other players. As the tanks are running they are healed by the clerics who are also following and the ones that are in their party. There will be no stopping till the KQ teams reach the middle area.
This is where the first two KQ bosses await. However this time you should have a few clerics with the skill revive. This will make it a bit more easier to handle a party member dying. Just make sure that you keep ahead of the damage dealers and clerics and that you keep running. Getting left behind in this KQ can often mean failure. And soon enough you will reach the middle. You will want to head to the right plank first. This is so your KQ group can take care of some of the monsters that were following up to this point and so everyone can rest up.
Beforehand you will want the archers or mages to lure the spawn surrounding the two bosses over to your parties resting spot. So that only the bosses remain. Then you have one boss lured over at a time. You can start with ether Mara or Marlone. It is important that you spam the skill Snearing kick whenever it cools down, just like you have done with previous bosses. And make sure that your character is attacking the bosses from the front. With you located a few spaces ahead of the said boss. This is because while your attacking the boss its AoE skill doesn't reach the other fighters and Clerics attacking it from behind. After defeating both Mara and Marlone the path will be open to the end of the map and a choice will be presented to you. Your group can ether rush like before or they can choose to clear most of the path ahead from mobs. Its all up to the amount of time you and the groups have left to finish the KQ.
No matter how the KQ parties choose to get to the end, the boss fighting takes place the all the same. After you reach the boat and clear it of mobs the group will send an archer or a mage to lure the correct boss over to the first boat. Where you can your party is currently located.
-Note- The real Marlone has horns on his head and the real Mara has blue beads on her hat. The fight takes place the same way as the fight on the planks did. And after you kill the correct Mara and Marlone the KQ will be over and your prizes will be at hand.
The Path has been chosen
So by now you’re a level 20 or up, gotten used to your old skills, and chosen your future weapon? You feel ready to tank more then KQs correct? Then first we must get you better used to the tools of a tanker.
Tools Of The Trade And Their Many Uses.
Now you must be like "Huh!?" "What do you mean more stuff to know?!" "Hush women and let me go kill some monsters ergrg11!!1." Well if you really wish to be a more reliable tank you can't just jump into it. You must be ready for anything ahead of time.
~The Items~
The Main Scrolls
Vitality Scrolls: A scroll which adds onto your max hp by 200 points.
Shield Scrolls: Scroll which increases defense by 29 points.
Power Scrolls/ Aim Scrolls: A scroll which increases you aim [Not attack power] by 65 points.
Nothing like a good scroll to help you out when tanking and you may want to get used to them. Because you shall be using them for a long time to come. Not only do they make it easier on a cleric that is healing you, but they also last 1 hour to boot. As long as you do not die and lose them that is.
The Minor Scrolls
Magical Def Scrolls: A scroll which increase you defense to magical attacks for 37 points.
Nature's Agility Scrolls: A scroll which increases your evasion by 32 points.
Speed Increase: A scroll which increases ones moving speed by 5%
These are scrolls you will not use as often at first, but at higher levels when you encounter chances for them to be much more useful. Such as higher leveled monsters that use magic attacks or if you feel like you taking one to many hits. A speed increase may not seem that helpful, but when your running from a huge mob of monsters that little amount of speed increased can save your life and your exp.
The Stones
By now this should simple enough to remember. When tanking always fill up on your Sp stones so you can spam skills and always bring a full set of Hp stones. This is for just in-case your cleric should fall in battle.
Skill Empowers
Now there are several different skills you should Empower depending on your build.
Full Party Tank:
Recommended Skill Build Set Up
Mock
5 points into Cool Down
Devastate
5 points into Cool Down
5 points into Damage Increase
5 points into Duration
5 Points into Sp Cost [Optional]
Snearing Kick
5 points into cool down.[Optional]
Precise Attack / Accurate Strike
5 points into Damage [Optional]
5 points into Cool Down [Optional]
For players who prefer to tank in a party. In parties you will need to be in control of the monsters at all times. This may require you to max the cool down on Mock because at higher levels Archers/Mages in your party will always be grabbing the aggro from what ever monster you trying to keep on you. This empowerment will also allow you to spam it much more often. And when in such parties spamming it every time it cools down will be key. A full cool down on Devastate, full Time increase, and full damage increase is also a good choice. The rest of the points can be saved for higher level skills or be used on what ever you please. Such as decreasing Sp consumption on skills or damage.
Total Damage Dealer:
Recommended Skill Build Set Up
Power Hit [2h users only]
5 points into Damage Increase
5 points into Cool Down [Optional]
Devastate
5 points into Damage Increase
5 points into Cool Down
5 points into Duration
5 points into Sp Cost [Optional]
Vitality
5 points into Cool Down [Optional]
5 points into Duration [Optional]
Precise Attack / Accurate Strike
5 points into Damage
5 points into Cool Down[Optional]
This can be a quite fun build to play with. And a lot less stressful to boot. But it can be quite a pain to find a party with. Also know for its duo-ing and solo-ing uses. Since you’re a DD it would be thought that you will be using a Two handed Sword or an Axe. This being so it would be wise to full empower Power Hit's Maximum Damage and full empower Devastates max damage output as well. The rest of the points are up to you to choose how to use but you may want to sway toward placing them in your more powerful skills gained later on in the game. You may also consider placing some points in reducing Vitality's Cool down and amount of time the effect lasts.
Hybrid:
Recommended Skill Build Set Up
Power Hit [2h users only]
5 points into Damage Increase
5 points into Cool Down
Devastate
5 points into Damage Increase
5 points into Cool Down
5 points into Duration
5 points into Sp Cost [Optional]
Vitality
5 points into Cool Down [Optional]
5 points into Duration [Optional]
Precise Attack / Accurate Strike
5 points into Damage
5 points into Cool Down[Optional]
Mock
5 points into Cool Down
A mix of the above skill builds. It can be used to both DD and Tank but you will lack some of the things a full DD/Tanker gets to spend points on. Much like the tank skill build you would want to max cool down on Mock. But instead of focusing points on one thing for Devastate you may want to split you point use into two different things some for cool down and some for damage. And you may want to max damage on power hit. So that you can switch between Axe and One handed weapons at will. Vitality is also an option when choosing what to empower.

The Skills
You have most likely gotten used to Snearing Kick and its useful-ness in you K.q. tanking days. Well now I shall introduce you to a few more skills that should make your tanking a bit more simpler, and yet more complex at the same time.
Mock [01] + [02] Level Req. 20, 55
So, you are used to Snearing Kick and its aggro grabbing abilities right? Well now here an skill that works like Snearing Kick but with an AoE. Now AoE means Area of effect, this is the area around your character that is effected by any skill you use. Now Snearing Kick allows you to grab one monster. But Mock allows you to grab up to five at its first teir. And up to six at its 2nd teir. And its mocks the whole area around you not just in front of you. So if your surrounded by monsters it can bring them all attacking you. This can be a life saver if your cleric is being attacked by a monster while your busy fighting another. This also can be combined with Devastate to form a great combo attack. I'll elaborate on this later.
Snearing Kick [02] Level Req. 39
Your thinking. "What is the use of another Snearing Kick, mine works fine and saves on sp." Well not quite, as you will notice at higher levels. See the higher levels other classes will start grabbing aggro more often because of their skills. So its natural you will need a higher level Snearing Kick to hold the aggro.
-Note-Kicking while mocking can hold the aggro of a mob better then just mocking alone. Its wise to follow up almost every mock you preform with a Snearing Kick.
Devastate [01] + [02] Level Req. 43, 53
Now for one of my more favorite skills. Devastate, and just as its name suggests it packs a huge punch. It's also one of the first fighter AoE attacks you shall get. This skill makes Concussive Charge useless, at least in my eyes. And it hits the monsters around the front of you, not behind, but in a more in a semi-circle fashion ahead of you. This can be combined with mock to make taking on more then 2 monsters easier. And it is a key factor in AoE Grinding which I’ll give you more info on soon.
-Note-If you are a Pure End tank it may be a good idea to use a full 20 points on empowering this skill, max cool down, damage, stun duration, and Sp reduction is always a good thing to have. And it shall help a lot if you are AoE tanking. But if your not willing to spend 20 points on it then you should put full cool down and full time increase on Devastate at least if you are planning on being an AoE Tank.
Precise Attack / Accurate Strike Level Req. 60
Depending on which weapon type you choose you may want to empower one of these skills in the cool down and damage areas. Why? Because it makes it a heck of a lot easier to hold the aggro off the cleric when one of these skills lands a huge blow. Now depending on your weapon you should ether go with Precise attack empower for two handed users or Accurate Strike for those one handers. Or you can go both if you wish to jump between the weapon types. However it is a bit more point friendly if you choose to empower just one.
Vitality Level Req. 20
The Self buff known as Vitality has a verity of uses in different situations. It shines however in Duoing, Soloing. And it can be a great a boost during boss battles or PvP. However it can be limited in its usefulness during party situations because of the amount of time it takes to cast.
When the time is right...
So you have prepared yourself with all the items, skills, and you have taken the time to see what skills to empower? Well then you are ready to learn about the different methods and styles of tanking you will be using from now on. And I shall be providing tips on the best type of area styles to tank in. As you can't just tank were ever you want. So lets move on shall we?
The Basic Types Of Tanking
The Solo
So your not a party type person eh? Well no worries it is still possible to solo at higher levels. It just is not handled the same way it was before. Before you head out and find a nice spot to solo in you should have your scrolls ready, your Hp and Sp stones full, and it would be a good idea to bring some potions just in case your stones can't heal you fast enough. Now that your ready you must find a nice spot. Be sure it’s a not to crowded because there is always a chance of you being trained by another person fleeing from monsters themselves. Also if you can, try to find a spot were monsters do not spawn behind you so you can handle the monsters in front of you easer. In this form of tanking Snearing Kick will be your best friend again allowing you to lure one at a time. The Exp will be slower then being in a party, but you may make more money from drops in the end. You should bring the same types of items that you bring during party tanking, scrolls, a sword and shield for those times you need extra defense, and tons of potions. Full stones is always a must before setting out.
Soloing Areas
Also please remember you do not have to stick to exactly the areas suggested. Many players find their own spots to solo and stick with them. Feel free to test different areas and even go to areas that may seem out of your current level but you find that you can handle them.
[1-10]
For your first few levels you should stick around Roumen then move into Forest of Tides and Sand beach. You should be able to just solo just about anything these levels.
[10-20]
Around level 10 you can try moving onto Forest of mist, the Ratman, Boars, and such will be your best bet, or you can also try the pirates in the Sea of Greed till you reach about 20.
[20-30]
Around 20 you can still stick around the SoG area and move onto the Smart Phinos, Kebing, Little Lizardmans around the portal to Elderine. You can also try the first floor of Luminous Stone. The Grave Robbers and Keblings in this area can be soloed easily. At higher levels you can move onto the Skeleton Warriors Archers, and such running around. But I would suggest avoiding the Magic books. You can also try the Baby Bats and Gold slimes and Wolfs in Burning Hill during your early 20's. And then move on the various Marlone solders, Captains and such located near the middle of the area.
[30-40]
-During these levels you should move onto Moonlight Tomb during your low 30's. The Baby bats and Spiders are a great choice to go with. At mid levels you can move onto Sand hill and into Vine Tomb. Avoid soloing the magic monsters in both these areas. You can try soloing around Luminous Stone 2
[40-50]
Around 40 you should move to Goblin camp to solo. Goblins and Goblin Warriors (Yesh, they have very similar names but no, they are not the same monster. xD) are good choice. Just avoid those Goblin mages hanging around. At later levels you can move onto WereBears. You can also solo in Collapsed Prison. This area has many great choices of monsters to solo on. Harkens and Weakened Ogres may be your best beat during earlier levels and King Colls are also a option, however their magic attack makes it some what difficult. You can move onto the areas located deeper within this area at higher levels for a bit more Experience. Monsters such as Torturers and Karasian soldiers are available.
[50-60]
Durring your 50's you should be able to make Uruga your soloing area of choice. Orcs, Orc Hunters, and King Mushrooms are some options and being so close to town you can restone quickly and get right back to killing if you should run out. You can also try the monsters located in Collapsed Prison 1 and 2, such monsters such as Red Stonies and Navars. However, it will be tricky making frequent trips from the dungeon and back to town. At later levels you can move onto the monsters within Ancient Elven Woods. Red Trumpys at lower levels, and you can move to Blue Trumpys during higher levels.
[60-70]
Areas such as Forest Of Slumber or the Land of Trials are some choices, but by now you should know exactly where you want to solo.

The Duo
CLERICS ARE A FIGHTERS BESTESTS FRIEND EVAR!
Sorry...I had to get that out of my system. But it is what duoing is all about if you think about it. And no I don't care if your anti-social. If you want to duo make a friend with a cleric, there is no way around it. Now much like the Solo you will be luring monsters one at a time with Snearing Kick. And you will be sticking to areas were you can handle how the monsters spawn. How ever you will not have to rely on just your Hp stones with a cleric around.
-Note- You should still always bring full Hp and Sp stones and scrolls. Don't make your cleric do all the work. And please just set the drop system to Seq. Your cleric deserves to make money too.
And if you are mobbed by chance, having a cleric around will make it much easer to handle the monsters attacking you. Also being in a party will get you increased attack and defense. This will allow you to kill faster which leads into more exp gain then just soloing alone. And you will still make money just not as much as when your just soloing. But the net gain is quite worth it in the end. Most duo-ing areas can be the same types of places you would normally solo in.
However if the cleric and the tanker are about or around the same level then you can duo in another way. Known as the DD Duo or the Nana:Yukijin Duo. In this form of duoing both members of the party attack one monster. And it does not matter which takes the aggro and the monster will be under the effect of a def debuff. You and do this for a few hours, go back to town and re-stone, then return to the spot you were and repeat. This can lead to great amounts of exp if done properly.
The Party
Tanking for a party is what your really here for I suppose. Well then shall I get started? :3
-Before hand-
Like I have stated before be sure to bring scrolls, a few potions, and full Sp and Hp stones. Also if your tanking bringing a one handed sword and shield is also a good choice. Though it is still quite possible to tank using any other weapon and the corresponding scrolls. There can be different ways to handle tanking for a party and I shall try my best to go through as many as I can. Also the way you tank changes with the type of players in your party.
The Basic Party
This is a standard party type. [Ex. One tanker, one cleric, and three other characters of various classes. Usually mages or archers or other fighters.] Now in this basic form of party its best to find a non-crowded area to grind in. And be sure that the spawn time on the monsters is not to fast, because you do not want to have another monster spawn on you while your party taking care of another. The mage or archer will lure one monster at a time toward the party. While you use Snearing Kick to grab the aggro from the mage/archer before it reaches them. Then while your party gets the lured monster's Hp to its lowest, have the archer pull another monster towards your party. So right after the monster your killing dies you can move on to the next monster. This is what is know as chain pulling and it is for party's who want faster exp but less time to rest between kills. Remember though if your archer/mage pulls a bit too fast you can always mock to get the monster away from the puller. But it will mean a bit more healing for the cleric.
The Dps Party
So it just so happens that the only type of character available for your party are three archers. Well this can be quite a good thing if you can pull it off right. Now archers are well known for not their brute force but their damage per second or Dps skills. Now having three archers attacking one monster with those skills and chain pulling at the same time can lead to some great exp. But the tricky thing to get around in this party is to keep the aggro off the archers by using mock and kick in unison, meaning a bit of stress on the cleric.
The Mage Party
Now much like the Dps party having three mages in your party can mean fast kills and chain pulling by the said mages can equal to great exp. But the will pull the aggro off you alot even more so then archers. So be sure to spam Kick and mock when ever possible. This party however can be amazing in AoE type party's. I'll go more into this a bit later.
The Stun Party
This is a party that consists of one tanker, a cleric, and three other fighters. In the type of party luring can be more difficult and haphazard because of the lack of ranged characters. But it will be much easier to deal with any extra mobs because of the skill devastate. Before you begin attacking monsters it is best to set up a stun order.
[Ex. The tanker stuns the monster first then after it wears off the next person stuns so on and so forth.]
This makes it so the monster may not even get a chance to hurt your party. Which will save on stones costs in the long run. This party formation can also be used in AoE type parties, which as I’ve stated before will be covered in another section. >:P
The Trio
-Note- Why isn't this above the party part? Because I'm lazy thats why!
Now the Trio type of party is made up of one tanker , one archer, and one cleric. Unlike other party types you will not be pulling much, as you will be standing right on the spawn point. Crazy yes? But exp wise great! You stand there and pull every monster off your other party members while the archer keeps pulling the monsters around you toward the party when the one your killings hp gets low. Yes its hard to control the spawn and it will be hard on the cleric. But if you can get a spot were you can time the spawns, then you can be taking down monsters faster then other types. Now why you ask is it only made up of three people? Because having only 3 members eats up less exp and the cleric will only have to keep up with only three people getting attacked. I'd recommend this to higher level players though.
The AoE
Are you a bit tired of taking down monsters one at a time? Is the exp just not pulling in as fast as it was before? Are you just plain bored? Well then step up to the AoE and all its crazy monster killing goodness!
Note-Seras is not to be held responsible to any and all exp lost at attempting this, or any mental breakdowns if they should occur.
The Preparations
Before hand I would recommend bringing as many scrolls as possible such as def, vit, and the other basic types. Bring quite a few because you can never be sure when you may die and need to re-scroll. Yes there is always a high chance of you and your party dieing if you mess up. Seras should know she has failed in doing this many times. :P
Wearing a one handed sword and shield is also recommended as the extra Defense helps a lot in tanking the many monsters you shall mob together.
The Party Members
When making an AoE party there are some preferred party make ups to others. There is the one tanker, two cleric, and two mage party. This party is made up of two clerics in order to keep the main tanker alive when they pull the monsters together. The two mages use there AoE spells to attack the mobbed monsters all at once, while the tanked mocks and holds the mob in place. If your party is feeling up to it the extra cleric can be switched out for another mage or second dd/tanker. Though it will make it harder on the cleric. And AoE party can also be made up of a cleric and four warriors one or all being tanks. It seems like an odd party arrangement but it works if your party has a chain stunning order. [E.x One person tanks and pulls the monsters, when the tank has the monsters mobbed in one spot he/she uses Devastate to hold the mobs. While one after another the other fighters in the party use devastate to keep the mobs stunned. The time after each stuns follows a 6-7 second waiting period.]

The Methods of AoE
Before taking your party, and whatever members it is made up of, to a spot to grind it is best to find a empty space away from other parties. This is to avoid any monsters you pull getting out of control and heading toward other such parties. Thus causing all sorts of trouble. Also, be sure the spot your party will primary stand in is free of monster spawns, as you do not wish for other monsters to spawn while you are taking care of another that you have pulled. Now make sure your party is ready and buffed up before you head out to pull and mob the monsters. If you can bring lots of Hp stones and potions, so the clerics do not have to follow behind you while you mob.
Now when mobbing it can be handled in two different ways. You can pull the monsters by running past them on foot or you can mob large amounts of monsters on a rider. But, after you get the appropriate amount of monsters following behind you, it will end up with you bringing the said monsters back toward your party.
Now as for the amount to pull it is based on what you think your party can handle and what you can handle. I'd generally have to say about 5-6 monsters per pull is enough but some players can handle many, many more. Its up to you to test the waters to see how many you can handle.
Areas to AoE
[Levels 1-20]
No where yet, seeing as you have yet to gain Mock and mages do not have the skill Magic Burst. Its better to 1 by 1 during these levels.
[Levels 20-30]
AoE-ing with a party in the Sea of Greed works here. Pirates for the early levels and Keblings for the higher levels. Or you can try the monsters inhabiting Burning Hills such as the robbers, bats, golden slimes, and glow wolfs. You can also try the area around the middle of the zone but be wary of the archers.
[Levels 30-40]
Around your late 20's- early 30's one should head to Mt or Mourning Tomb. Some recommended spots would be the graveyard around C3 then when you feel like you can handle it move to the area around I3. Around your late 30's you should head to Vine tomb around F7 but be careful of the monsters stun. There are other spots here but the ghosts fear skill makes it harder to AoE.
[Levels 40-44]
AoE-ing in Vine tomb is still a good choice but soon one should move onto Goblin Camp soon enough. This place is good form your late 30's though 44 before you learn Devastate. The Goblin Swordsmen and Were-Bear area is great. Though its best to avoid the Procks and Goblin Mages areas.
[Levels 44-60]
Where you AoE during these levels can depend on your party and gears. AoE-ing in Cp is a very good choice during the early 40's seeing as there are not many ranged monsters in this area. But be careful of the King Colls magic attacks. At higher levels you should move onto Uruga. AoE-ing Orcs and King mushrooms would be best. Then at higher levels one can move onto Red Trumpys, just watch out for the Queen Spiders. Then when one thinks they can handle it move onto AoE-ing Blue Trumpys and such. Or you could go to Cp1 and AoE the Red Stonies located at the top of the stairs in the room to the left.
[Levels 60+]
By now you should know where to AoE. Its up to you to decide were you wish to train. Just be careful, always have full stones, and well you know the rest. :3
Abbreviations Used/After Thoughts
For the new members who are not quite sure what some words mean.
Tanking
The act of using your character as a shield for the party taking all the hits from the foe as your fellow party member support you.
End
The character stat Endurance, increases block rate, def, and hp.
Spr
The character stat Spirit which increases critical percentage, magical defense, and max Sp.
Str
The character stat strength which increases damage done.
Dex
The character stat Dexterity, increases evasion and aim.
Int
The character stat Intelligence, increases Magical attack damage. Has no use for a fighter.
Build
The way a characters stats are applied.
DD
A damage dealer, known as an support character in parties.
PvP
Otherwise known as Player vs. Player. You see this a lot in guild wars in town.
PvE
Player vs. Environment, this means Player vs. Monsters or some other element that is fightable or causes you damage in the game.
Dps
Damage per second, this is seen quite a bit in archer skills such as their various poison abilities. It's the amount of time it takes each attack to land on a monster.
AoE
Area of Effect. This is seen in Mage's skills such as Nova and Inferno. Its a skill that damages or effects all monsters around its casting range. It also seen in several fighter's skills such as the semi-AoE Devastate and Whirlwind .
Luring
When one member of the party, such as an long range character, uses their skills to pull a monster toward the party and allowing the tanker to grab the aggro off the other character so the rest of the party members can focus on damaging it.
Aggro
Known as Aggression. This is the monsters desired target and thier current focus as to who they are attacking.
[Ex. When a fighter uses Snearing Kick and the monsters there after attacks him/her.]
Chain Stunning
When one party member after another take turns stunning the monsters that the they are fighting. Normally a stunning order is set up by the party members before hand so that all the members of the party are not using stun at the same time.
Notes- Well that about wraps things up I suppose. Being a successful tanker will count on many things. Most notably the player behind the character itself. Some things you will learn as you go along, and some you may need to practice at. But keep at it, you never know how powerful you can become in the end. I hope my guide has helped you in any way, even if only a bit. May your exp be safe and your drops be great!

Seras,
Since your making a guild ill help you add something only few people knew
------
Free Stats
Here is the importance.
Str+1 Free stats are known as Dmg increase and if you put 1+ in str you will gain 1+ more dmg on a mob. As well, Through research 1+ str is equivalent to 10+ str from the item bonus stats
Dex+1 I belive this is the useless and waste of an Stats but people's preference. It will imcrease your aim and evasion but not by much
Endurance +1 Perhaps If your a tanker you should consider adding this but yet the flaw is that +1 end free stats is equivalent to the +1 end added from an Free item stats. While Str receives 1:10 ratio. but regardlessly this stats will increase your hp by 5 and defence by 3 i believe.
Intelligence: Known as the smart Warrior build. Quite the waste of time because you really dont have magic attack unless your a mage. I Strongly do not suggest you do not put any free stats because It will not do any good to you.
Sprit: Known to increase your sp and crit % by .2 percent each free stats. Many people prefer to take this into consideration because this is quite nice. .2% per each stats does give our a nice hefty amount of crit percent. Many people choose to go 25 + spr for 5% crit like Seras said.
Empower Skills:
There are few things i would like to point out. This really depends on which type of warrior you are.
Full Party tank:
I sugesst you go for Full Cool down decrease on Mock: beause at later level mages and archers will grab your aggro imensely and this is quite bad and could possibly cause death in your whole party.
Total empower build
-Full Cool down on Mock-
-Full Cool down on Devastate- Or -Full time increase on devastate-
-Rest of the points can be saved or you can use it on other things-
-Suggestion may be Since warrior's Sp is scarse and you dont get alot of sp sotnes- put points in Sp consumption decrease in each skill-
Total DD Build
This build is quite fun to play but hard to get parties with. Majorly known for Duo, or Solo.
-Since your a DD i expect that you will be using 2h or an axe.
-Put maximum damage on Power hit- This will be quite good damage
-Suggest Putting dmg points on Devastate as well it is alot of damage.
--Suggestion may be Since warrior's Sp is scarse and you dont get alot of sp sotnes- put points in Sp consumption decrease in each skill-
Hybrid
This is my build but I qutie like it but here it is
-Put max damage on Power hit- (for axe use)
-Put max cool down for mock-
-Put few cool down and dmg on devastaste=
-Rest i put 1 sp consumption on each skill-
Item Bonus Stats:
Here are few items that you should consider getting even though it may be scarse and such.
As explained we have tested that 1+ bonus stats is equivalent to 10+ stats from bonus item stats.
Thus I would highly suggest finding items with + end and +spr.
This is just a suggestion so Feel free to burn it and ignore it.
-I will add further more when i get more research done-

hers some from me, random typing and its not the truth*
Fighter, a job for lurin and tankin in aoe party.
most tankers r pure end, as known as the BEST tanker in fiesta.
but think again, if this is true or not?
as we all know that pure str or str with spr fighters r monsters in gw/pvp
but sucky at tankin, is this really the turth?
as a cleric, i would say i rather let a pure str fighter tanking in aoe party than pure end
why? cuz i will be healin the fighter only and i can still watch tv while healin him.
as a mage, i would say....i perfer pure str fighter for aoe party than pure end
why? cuz they can at less keep 90% of the argos from the mob
as a fighter, i would say i will grind longer than end fighters due to sp uses
Yeah, it is true that end fighters might take less dmgs.but if u cant keep the argo or get the mobs to hit u after stune....i dont see the point of takin less dmgs.
and keep 1thing in mind. mages at 60 got nova, and a pure int mage with crit suits means no fighters can keep the argos after stune time. not metion at 67 the new aoe skill.
str fighters might get less hp at lower lvls, but after high 5x the diff isnt that much. ok now u be thinkin about boss runs, can a str fighter tank dung boss? the answer is NO if u dont have cashshop hp buffs. how to fix this? we all know that dungs starts from 20-39 40-49 50-59 60-69etc. just get like 3-5more lvls higher than the stander req lvls then u will be fine with tanking the boss. but for now....u can just get full set of +3-5 gears then u will be fine too.
a good tanker also uses stone/pot incase the cleric afk or healin others while tankin aoe
not 100% dependin on the cleric hehe...and again a good cleric can keep the party alive.
since nowdays u can get ur gears +5-9 so easy, pure str is just even better
not saying i dont like pure end fighters but my point is that
from lvl1-59 pure end better, from 60 up pure str better
oh yeah.......for the argo thing, it can allways be fixed with the party members
like 3mage 2fighter 2 cleirc but this only means u cant have more friends leeching from the party, but if u dont have any guildmates/friends to plvl then its no problem lol
grinding its like high school, more like a must for everyone. but sooner or later u will finsh it or get bored of it. pk/pvp is like college, where the fun starts. when free pk zone is out str fighters will have more fun than end ones, since end fighters cant really kill anyone even with +9weapon.
so str better or end?
as the old saying.....it depends on how u play and the set of ur party member's class
if u willing to spend some cash for cashshop items and in game money for the fun of gaming. i would say choose pure str/str spr, its not that easy untill high 5x but u will get there in no time.
again and again and again....i have to idea wut im talking about now lol
hope i wont ruin ur theat.....

First of all, how can we be sure that you're providing reliable info. We need a reputable source.
Also, I think full points into concussive charge's duration is a fine investment. Those extra 2 secs can be a lifesaver.

Well, Zelda has been 59 for quite some time and has every piece of equipment she could ever need on her... I'm sure it is trustworthy enough unless someone can prove otherwise. -shrugs-
Aside from that the next source would be from the developers themselves.

I am not quite sure if you understand how much agro Snearing Kick + Mock rotoations do. In fact, I am a full End build, and if i want to there is not a single group that can take agro from me. Damage hits do indeed build agro on mobs. But if ANY fighter simply stops with 1 kick or 1 mock, then they need to look at the basics again. Any tank worth thier salt does not try to keep agro with stuns.Stuns are simply ways to hold a runnign mob into place or to stop it from dealing damage while you land debuffs or wait for Kick or mock to cool down.
Speaking of Mock. I for some reason have run into way too many 30+ fighters in MT who keep asking me what my earthquake attack is. I even had one ask me how I got Fire 1, the mage skill?
Please all you 20+ clever fighters , pick up that skill as son as you can. Its bought from the Fighter skills seller in Elderine.
*edit
I went back through and tried to reread your post. Im not quite sure if you were joking around or being serious.
Regardless "To Orig Poster,"

my bad, i havnt really been grinding for a long while now, and i simply forgot the skill names. yeah kick and mock. u can kick every one mob if u wan when u luring more than 10mobs and mock it lvl1 or lvl2 but u really cant keep argo from a mage. kick->mock->stune thats wut u do normal right? maybe with 1more aoe skill, after stune time the mock dont really work anymore even tho u cast it again( this only happens after mages hit 60+)
like i said from lvl1-59 pure end is better from 60+ str is better, this is just wut i seen so far. it is hard to confirm this now, since there isnt many lvl60mages yet.
keep other thing in mind as well, kick every single mob and mock twice and aoe skills, this only means u can grind 30mins at aew or 20mins, even with double stone from cashshop it will still be hard to reach 1hur grinding time.

well, after reading what u proposed it really got me thinking...it's kinda hard to keep aggro on us *pure end tank* when there's a mage casting mass dmg skills
but come to think of it...i think it ain't that bad if the mage is focusing on the mob u r hitting, u can use snearing kick lvl2 to bring the aggro back to u n the mage should, by all means, stop attacking if he sees the mob running to him
p:s: i love archers more than mages coz of nature's protection :D

Just a small point here, but I don't quite agree with your 2H/Axe comment. Someone with 0 Str will always do better with an axe, even more so with 25 Spr. So if a tank wants to do some damage, Axe is the better choice to bring along. However, 2H is faster so may attract more aggro. But hey, if you want aggro you should be using 1H and shield right?

Hmmmm...well I am a great tank, or so I've been told, and this guide is a good start for all aspiring tanks, but just remember: you won't know how good you are until you actually do it. No matter how much you read, no matter how much you THINK you know, it doesn't matter if you can't actually do it. So I suggest you all get out there and learn how to tank properly, I am getting sick and tired of bad tanks. /rant
Alright on another note, I am trying to become an AoE god, and I will come back and let you know how that turns out. For now though I will tell you my plans. My plan (currently lvl 36), is to put the FULL 20 points into devastate...we will see if this works like I hope. By 51 I will have these in there, and by 71 I will have my 3 chosen skills empowered the way I want. This is full 20 for devastate, 5/5 cd/sp for mock and kick. I wish the store sold empowerment reset points though...I would like to remove my 5 cd for kick for now, if not forever, but meh...

Correct me if I'm wrong but a skill can only be empowered by a total of 5 points per skill. Also the purpose of this thread is to help newer players learn how to tank. Every one can tank they just must take the time to learn. Heck even a mage can tank. :3

You can only empower each AREA for five points, and since there are 4 areas for each skill (most of course can't be empowered in all of these areas as most don't have buff time, some don't do damage, etc.) So yes I can put 5 points in damage, 5 in buff time, 5 in sp, and 5 in cd. This, I assume, makes devastate THE skill to empower.
Also I did not mean that people CAN'T tank, but that most people don't tank WELL.

Another consideration for editing on the guide: When being a Pure END tank, preparation for AoE's goes a long way in using a full 20 points on Devastate, filling each vital point of the skill; damage, stun duration, cooldown, and SP cost. All four of these at maximum level make for a mighty mean Stun-AoE Tanker. That and a good 5 Cooldown on Mock. Honestly, ya can't go wrong with it.

Something that i think early tankers should know is that Concussive Charge cooldown is linked together with Devastate's stun, in other words, when you do your devastate and it enters it's cooldown period, you cant use your Concussive Charge as well.
and full party tank, should put Full Cool down on Devastate- AND -Full time increase on devastate, not 'Or', full 20 points empowerment is also very recommended, but those 2 are the most important if you're short on points.
@umakemehide: Full STR doesn't necessarily can hold aggro better compared to full END, i dont think mock and kick depends on STR at all.. dmg on devastate may be related to str, but in term of taking aggro in AoE environment, you can't hit 5+ monsters all at once (setting devastate a side), so you cant grab aggro better. if you're talking about 1 on 1 killing, then full STR might be able to hold aggro better coz like Jun and Kirra experienced, they can deal roughly equal dmg to the DD in the party, but i think with +9 axe, full end fighter can deal dmg pretty good as well..
another addition i think you should make is why people stop at 25 SPR, you just said to get 5% crit, but u forgot to mention after 25 SPR, it only adds 0.1% to critical points. also i've been reading about the magical number for END is 50? have to ask kholai about this.. as i read it in one of his post, but cant find why 50 is the magic number, i'm guessing it has something to do with less def generated from adding more points as well..
So, here's my input to your already wonderful guide seras, as no guide is complete without leveling spot!
Some area guides for AoE ing with full end fighters:
- Lvl 1-20, <.< no mock, no burst, no aoe, simple as that..
- Lvl 20-30, i didn't try this as i originally made my fighter as KQ only, and i got to 27ish in no time O.o but i guess AoE-ing in sea of greed will be great, the pirates for early 20s, and kebings for later 20s, or you can try with robbers, bats, golden slimes, and glow wolf in burning hills too, i never really hunt in the marlone camp area, but it has a good potential as well, seeing there're lots of mobs there, just be careful with the archers.
- Lvl 30-40, i did my late 20 and early 30s in MT, there are 2 areas, start with the graveyard around C5 area, when you're confident enough, go to I3 area, that's where i spent most of my early 30ish.
late 30ish, move to VT, F7 is my favorite area to aoe, tho u have to be careful coz those imps can stun and it can ruin your aoe pretty easy.. ghost has fear which i dont particularly like very much, so i didnt go to other place in VT.
- Lvl 40-44, i partly did aoe in VT and tanking 1 by 1 in CP, i skipped GC just because it was 3x event when i was around those lvl and GC wasn't in the event list xD but i guess it'll be great to go there around late 30 till 44 before you can learn devastate. the goblin swordman and werebear area is great, try to avoid range attack like procks and goblin mages.
- Lvl 44+, the limit is just your gears and party really.. i tried to tank 5-6 orc hunters & king mushrooms with 1 cleric + 1 mage at lvl 44, and i can hold it pretty well, my gear was NPC items with no enhancement. i was accompanied by a higher lvl fighter just in case at that time, but she didn't do anything coz i was trying to test my limit, and i was successful. but when she came in to play, it turned into a wonder, having 2 fighters in aoe party is a very good option for lower lvl aoe party in a high lvl environment, not because that other fighter was a high lvl fighter in my case, but chaining devastate is great when done correctly.
Otherwise, CP is a great area to AoE, and the new map (forgot its name, havent been on for a while -_-) that's similar to CP is also a good area to AoE, however, do be carefull with king colls, 1 special attack is fine, but when you're doing AoE and all 5+ do the attack at the same time, it can mean instant death.
I like doing AoE in prisoner area, with bats, and trees. torturer is also very nice to AoE. i haven't tried AoE-ing in AEW with my lvl 44 fighter yet, but i think it can still be done as long as you know your limit, and the DD is not way too powerful.. one thing i hate when tanking aoe is mage taking aggro from me >.> archers can still be managed as they usually only draw 1 monster, but mages.. -_-
one tip is to just mock/devastate on CD, it does burn your sp faster but on the other hand, it can save lives. AoE is expensive for fighters and clerics >.>
that's my AoE-ing path, im sure there are lots of other crazy tanker who can do even more wonders, especially with +9 items popping out everywhere now, i just want to show that you don't have to be high lvl to experience AoE-ing, just get a group of good party members and you're set to go! have fun AoE-ing :)

One more thing that has to be noted, when you're tanking aoe, please please please be considerate to others! i know you want to show off to your group how great you are tanking the whole map and everything, but other people has the right to hunt as well, and you don't own the field (on the contrary to what some people believe). getting there "first" when no one around doesnt mean you own that territory, its just courtesy, same courtesy that you make when you "give" a few spawn points to that other group.

A quick note to vietoq's great input: prior to devastate I found it somewhat difficult to hold aggro with mock alone. I was in Sand Hill with a mage around my level, and a cleric, and we decided to have some fun and AoE wolves and chickens there. At first he kept getting hit and I couldn't understand why since I was mocking every chance I got but it wasn't enough. Finally I got tired of him taking damage and had to start kicking every enemy as well as mocking when possible. I would assume though that this problem could also be alleviated by having more DDs in the party to kill them by the time the aggro would be taken, so I don't know...I am just begining my AoE tanking.

Could you add more newbie info for your guide?
I just started a warrior and have not used any skill points yet. So should I just save them until I have higher level skills? Or is there anything worth empowering now for a level 15?

You should save up your skill points for your higher leveled skills. Most of the lower leveled skills need not be empowered.

After reading all the guides, I wanted to reiterate the question just mentioned above with a slightly different angle because I just started a fighter the other day.
WHY should fighters NOT empower any of their early skills (as it appears to be a consensus)??
It seems that the Debuff skills can be pretty much spammed (especially on KQ bosses etc.) and add serious damage to your normal attacking, not to mention slice n' dice seems to be very useful as a spam skill. Is this not true? Or are the AoE skills just THAT much better that there's no reason to empower the early debuff skills?
Please elaborate on this a bit, I couldn't really find any recent threads discussing this, just mostly people touting the greatness of AoE.
Thanks in advance!

Empowering the AoE skills is put over empowering the early skills because the early skills are constantly upgraded. The AoE's however rarely go up in teir. To compensate for there less amounts of upgrades one empowers them to make them more useful. And during higher levels AoE skills are more sought after in parties. Which become your main way of leveling as you get higher for most types of warriors. However there are some out there that may empower there other skills in order to Duo more often then party. But empowering the AoEs is a lot of help when one is mobbed.
KnightOfTruth
01-03-2008, 10:05 AM
Well, if you empower a tier1 skill (let's say "Slice n Dice") the empower carries over to it's 2nd tier skill and is actually pro-rated for the increase. I.e. If I empower dmg on Tier 1 "Slice n Dice" once it may give it +8 dmg, then when I buy tier 2 of the skill, the empower will carryover and will automatically give it +40dmg (#'s are hypothetical as I haven't done it yet).
So, that's not really a good reason. But I guess what you're saying is that the main difference is whether you want to be a solo/duo or a party fighter right?
*EDIT* Oh, I just re-read your post again... I see, you're saying that because the early skills get levelled up, there is not necessarily a need to empower them as much... okay sounds like a valid reason. But if they're already effective, then why not make them SUPER effective? :) Just seeing if there are any other reasons out there.
Thanks for the tips.

Well as Kuydo said, AoE fighters are highly sought after, especially if they are pure END. Now of course in my eyes there is no wrong way to empower or build your character, only different play styles. Now if you are planning on soloing/duoing alot, then yes I don't suggest AoE skills, but if you are planning on being a tank for a party, or even an extra DD, then I highly suggest you empower devastate alot. Just think of it this way, you and a friend of the same level are both pure END tanks with the full 20 points (5/5/5/5, cd/sp/buff/damage) in devastate, if you do it right, the enemy may get one attack on one of you inbetween devastates, assuming of course that you have 10 or less and that the stun lands everytime. Then of course your other DDs such as mages and archers are there too spamming their AoEs, and that takes care of them with minimal effort. Now this is the main way alot of people like to level because it is fast, and in my opinion, fun. Alright train of thought derailed, boodbye...

I only added information on skills needed for the basic forms of tanking. So I was not planning on writing up the info on the others. I suppose I may someday when I'm not being so lazy. :P And there are currently not many AoE skills for warriors that outdo Devastate, unless you count Whirlwind but it lacks stun and has that cool down. So it cannot quite match. :3

Hi Seras, I have a couple of questions, I don't if its covered already by your guide, so here it is:
- AoE party. After luring the mobs to the designated place, which skill combo is preferred? I ussually use Devastate -> Mock to keep aggro while DD start their AoE attack. Another pattern which I use is Mock-> Devastate -> Demoralizing hit.
- AoE party, should I chase after the mob that break up and go after the cleric(s)? Especially when the cleric is panic and instead of running toward the tanker, run somewhere else instead.
Nothing is worse than a tank desperately trying to regain aggro with the mobs chasing the rest of the party members. :D

Yes, the AoE party skills are nice to empower and all, but what if you're like me, and DON'T want to be in an AoE party, and just want to stick to solo/duo? Would you still keep the points on Devastate or would you empower other skills first? And for me, this question is really a big concern as I don't want to AoE party, but at the same time, nervous about my points layout.

Most people's luring style is all their own. I myself first bring the mobs over to the spot were my party is waiting. Mock them, then back up a bit so the mob becomes more grouped together. Then I use Devastate and let the mages or other DD's do their thing. And yes, you should always go after the monster that aggros your Cleric. Nothings worse then having your poor cleric die in the middle of battle. Though I would ask higher leveled Clerics not to use the party heal, its quite the aggro magnet. :3

I would still empower Devastate even if your planning on duoing. It still has stun and a good deal of damage, even when your only fighting one monster at a time. Not to mention it can be helpful if your cleric accidentally gets mobbed while your duoing. Now a days it seems to happen far more often with so many more players about. x.x

So then to be an ultimate AoE'er (funny cuz my fighter's name is Aeolys and for the longest time I didn't know people were talking to me when they shouted Aeo, I thought they were talking about AoE's but anyway) would it be good to empower Mock, Devastate, AND Whirlwind, and just do massive amounts of Aoe Damage??

If you plan on AoE-ing I would greatly suggest empowering Mock and Devastate. However I do not think Whirlwind is worth putting any points at all. Its cool down makes it quite useless at times. And it still has a 2min+ cool down even with fully empowered cool down. Its quite unreliable. :x
Update: I have begin working on writing up detailed info on ALL Skills. Yesh, even the non-tanking ones. It will take a bit but I'll try to get it done as soon as I can. Don't worry it will not be % of attack and calculations and what not. I plan on writing them up in a form that describes there usefulness depending on situations, how to go about using them correctly, and weather if they should be empowered or not. n.n
It may take a while with mid terms coming up but I'll have them up eventually. >:3

Whirlwind is a level 60 skill that you obtain from a quest, but it has a 3 minute long cool down. Even if empowered it still has a 2min+ cool down. x.x But it is not linked to Devastate's cool down so they can both be used after the other. Which is most likely the only good thing about it. x:

Your build sounds great. n.n However if you choose to you may want to stop Spr off at 25 points because afterward it stops giving as high of an critical bonus. Or you can contine with it if you feel you want a bit more critical out of it. Its up to you really, otherwise your build sounds just fine and your Hp is great for your level too.

The guide is nice BUT there is one major error in it, Using 2hSwords will NOT give u any extra defence compared to Axe, so y would 2h Sword be better for tanking.
If u gonna say Axe is bad for Tanking than 2h Swords are nothing better, it's not like u get half a shield if u use 2h Swords.
TRUST ME PEOPLE if u tank with a 2h sword, u can tank with axe as well, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE in the amount of defence u have with 2h sword or 2h axe (unless u have a green 2h sword with END, but like i said this before in some other topic U CAN get END on a green Axe as well).
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD :( plz stop the urban legends about the 2hSwords :(
Besides the fact 2h Swords look cooler they are worse than the axe no matter how u try to look at them.

Well Leona, I agree with on all that you just said except for one thing, how do 2h swords look cooler? IMO all the weapons look equaly as "cool". In anycase the only possible way that a 2h sword is better for tanking is if you are fighting a boss. This is true because over time you are more likely to get crits with the 2h because you hit more.

I never once stated that two handed swords will give you extra defense and believe me I think I've looked over my own guide. What I said was that they were a balance between Speed and power. :T However I will add the part about it adding no defense if you could please stop capitalizing whole sentences. It bothers meh. Dx
Also I didn't state axes were bad for tanking I just said one handers are a lot more useful for doing so. One can tank well if you have the right scrolls with any weapons it really doesn't matter unless you want more defense and to make it easier on the clerics. Which is why its the preferred weapon to tank with are one hands because they give exactly that.

The fact that you hit more times in the same amount of period means you will have more chances of landing a crit. While yes, an axe generally has 2% crit on a 2h, this is applied each time that you hit. So in the long run, neither is really better than the other, it is just a matter of opinion really.

In the long run, maybe they would be equal (although i highly doubt it a 2h sword will ever match the axe's damage no matter how u twist and turn :D )but when u play with AXE there is no such thing as LONG RUN :D (unless we talk boss fights), with AXE when u spam skills is game over in a matter of seconds, therefore comparing AXE with 2h Sword in the long run is a little bit pointless :D
With 2h Sword there is this so called "long run" with AXE there is not :D

Well first of all IMO NEVER do anything with concussive charge, save it a devastate at 43 unless you plan on buying skill empowerment reset points. As to what to do with your points, that really depends on what you want your charcter to mainly do. If your build is 1:1 END:STR Then you will be decent tank, and for tanks you probably want to put points into Mock's cd and maybe sp (sp can wait), and then either sneering kick's cd and/or sp (again sp can wait), and then I highly suggest you wait to get devastate and put a full 20 points into it eventually maxing out in this order: cd, sp, buff, damage. This is just my personal opinion of course.
Now if you want to go as mainly a DD, I suggest empowering sp and damage, maybe cd on power hit (2h/axe's equvilent to slice and dice), and then again wait for devastate as a DD's devastate can be quite...devastating (sorry bad pun I know). Or you can do sp or cd on your other attack skills too, as I have heard DD's like spamming skills.

Hmmm..... Nice guide (REALLY!!!! I MEAN IT!!!!)
I've been lvling my Cleric to lvl 32 when I finally bored with that char. (Clerics don't have many attack skill....) Then I started using fighter instead. After I lvling my fighter A.K.A. Lone_Ranger, I started to realize how hard it is to fight magic damage type mob. You know that a fighter's worst nightmare is mage.
And then, I started to learn how to use my skills more efficiently. That is by using chain-attacks. For the solo-er lvl 11-26 (Like I'm always does except on KQ or getting bored of slow lvling), when you fight mobs, use the following skills [Fatal Slash, Bone Slicer, Slice and Dice (or Power hit for dh users lvl 20+)] If the Fatal Slash hits, you can kill the mobs faster and along with Bone Slicer, the mobs will hit less frequently.(I'm sorry if someone didn't understand what I'm typing...)

The AoE
Levels 44-50-Where you AoE during these levels can depend on your party and gears.
Okay, a little nit-pickyness coming from me, is this supposed to be 44-60? Sorry I know I am being really nit-picky but I love the guide, and well I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Amazing guide..... in fact there's an amazing guide for every class except archers. I do wish some nice lvl 50+ archer would come forward and start a nice little guide for archers. Clerics have Kholai (yay!), mages have Maiya and fighters have Seras. Poor archers must feel pretty abandoned :p

Well most archers feel they are the worst class, and in most ways I suppose they are, but in some ways they are great. I believe in the future of the archers, and when I get tired of my tank and my cleric I will go to archer before mage.

so as i read this long text... conclision of it is that i should wait and spend the skill empowerment points on Devastate? that's it?

02-08-2008, 11:54 AM
The conclusion is really up to you and how you wish to tank in the future. I can only give you advice on what skills I would believe to be more useful in tanking situations. And indeed I've tested quite a few out myself. :3 But heres is a quote of the skill section of the guide so you don't have to read the whole entire thing.
~The Skills~
You have most likely gotten used to Snearing Kick and its useful-ness in you K.q. tanking days. Well now I shall introduce you to a few more skills that should make your tanking a bit more simpler, and yet more complex at the same time.
Mock [01] + [02] Level Req. 20, 55
So you are used to Snearing Kick and its aggro grabbing abilities right?
So your saying. "What is the use of another Snearing Kick, mine works fine and saves on sp." Well not quite as you will notice at higher levels.
Its also one of the first fighter AoE attacks you shall get. Its hits monsters around the front of you with a powerful attack that also stuns.
-Note-If you are a Pure End tank it may be a good idea to use a full 20 points on empowering this skill, max cooldown, damage, stun duration, and Sp reduction is always a good thing to have. And it shall help alot if you are AoE tanking. But if your not willing to spend 20 points on it you should put full cool down on Devastate and full time increase on Devastate if you are planning on being an AoE Tank

Wow. I never really thought of tanking outside of AoE. (Even though I've doen it myself >.>) I didn't come here for tips as much as confirmation and I see that I'm doing most things right for a tank. (Even if I did mess up my build as a lowbie(Working on getting a stat reset scroll D:)) Thanks for the guide. I loved the part about AoE and your experience with it! xD

Seras if I may, I found that mostly I wanted to solo where mobs were yellow, or green if at all possible, as other than that I ended up using alot more pots and stones. While yes, if you grind on mobs that are just about to start turning orange but still haven't, you will get more exp, it may be harder than neccasary to get the same amount of experiance grinding on lower level mobs. I believe, at least for a pure end tank like I have, your solo areas should look something like this.
1-10: Roumen, Forest of Tides, and Sand Beach
10-17: Forest of Mist/Sea of Greed
17-24: Burning Hill/Luminous Stone
24-30: Moonlight Tomb and early Sand Hill
30-36: Vine Tomb and later Sand Hill
40-50: Goblin Camp and early Collapsed Prison/SEG
50-60: Late CP/SEG, early CP1, Uruga
After that I don't know, as you can see by my sig I am only level 45, so Seras should be able to correct me and fill in the gaps. Hope this helps the guide Seras, as I believe this is one of the best guides out there.

Alright, now I never use a 2h, and rarely use an axe, but to keep aggro with a 1h, sometimes, especially before kick 2 and mock 2, you have to mock and then possibly kick every mob again, and maybe spread around your moves. Seeing as your fighter is lvl 22, unless you are fighting a boss, or just don't kick, I don't see how you could lose aggro unless you have a powerhouse of a mage with you, or an archer whose poisons ALWAYS hit. My suggestion for using the 1h is to either kick alot, get used to kicking alot, and if fighting multiple mobs, mock, then kick around and try to fight the same one as your party.

True, however I find I save more money on stones by using a one handed sword and shield to solo. One's weapon of choice depends on themselves really. If you find you solo better with axes then by all means go for it. x3

You have never heard to the two rival factions of Appleline?! Ah, well it may of been a bit before your time. However it was a few months back. There was a Gm called Steam who was the official master of Appleline and waffles. Soon afterwords another member joined the Outspark staff called Cretz. Now in the beginning most of the server was loyal to Steam but some switched over the the Cretizites "peaceful" ways. Of course this did not go to well with some and soon clashes became apparent.
Those who respected the Steam way called themselves Steamites. While others who sided with Cretz called themselves Cretzites. And thus became what is now known as the Cretzism vs. The Steamites. Though Steam may of left the Outspark staff some of us still hold respect for him and thus continue the fight against the Cretzites "peaceful" ways. Though there really isn't any "true" fighting to this date. My hope holds strong that some day we shall take the lowbie down and end Cretzism's hold on Appleline! xD

You should be just fine soloing with an Axe without +9 Gear. It's just if your using an Axe to do so then you will want to bring those scrolls and such with you. Because soloing with a 1h+shield is chosen more often because one doesn't have to relay on as many scrolls while doing so. However with Skill spamming and build types added in one may find they solo much more quickly with an Axe, even if you do not have those gears.

well i have an axe but i use 1h+shield the same way u just said but i skill spam i dont just auto attack. when i skill spam my 3 most used skills (Fatal slash then bone slicer then slice n dice.) one after another i kill TWICE as fast and dont have to usually use a stone. with a good supporting cleric and me at my best im almost invincible (except if im up against like 5+ red mobs).
im just saying this because i just find it very useful to skill spam anyway.

If you leaning toward one handed weapons then I would suggest just empowering Accurate Attack.

alright then and i also want to know if i should start enhancing my weapons after about lvl 40. this is because im a hybrid. im not as good as a real tank and not as strong as a dd so would i need the ultimate green weapon/armor +9'd and wearing a full out fit of cash shop items (like crit suit) or something so that i can with stand like a tank and dd at the same time (im making a name for my self:
Damage Dealing Tanker of Apoline MasterAhmed). i also tend to rely tons on my shield and 1h and i think the last time i used my ax was like 4 lvls ago so i still have it but i dont use it as often (unless i feel like Destroying my cousin, a mage, for no reason but that is another story)

why there's no 25str, rest end build? i think its a very nice build because u can tank and at the same time, u can deal a decent amount of damage. ^^

Adding 25 points into Str is not the same as adding 25 points into Spr. This is because after you add 25 stat points into Spr the critical rate caps off at 1.0% per point instead of 2.0% per point. That is why many players chose to go with 25 Spr only. Adding points into Str doesn't work like that. However if you do find the build enjoyable then by all means go for it. :3
MasterAhmed
03-25-2008, 03:20 PM
well....i wouldnt say that is a bad build but like seras said u are cutting ur full end by 25 str which wont help unless u have tons of str. my build is hybrid but i got more str in there mainly because i love making huge numbers go up.the end is there to help when i dont have enough end on my armor. end from armor counts the same as from free stats but 10 str from armor counts as 1 str stat. thats the basic...:)

It's up to you really, A pure END build is always great at tanking just about anything you can put your mind to and it gives more defense in the long run then a 25 SPR: Full END build. However the 25 SPR will allow you a nice extra boost of 5% critical which when stacked with such cash shop items such as suits and critical + weapons can always add a nice boost of damage to the standard END build.

It really depends what you invest in that classifies your fighter.
For example, I put my stat points EVERYWHERE. O.o

04-13-2008, 03:32 PM
It is like you get the best of both worlds if you know how to build your character properly. I am a pure int mage but to do that and be able to tank your equips need to be +9. I love it, however there are always times you need a " true " tank around. No one can truely replace a " great " tank :P
MasterAhmed
04-27-2008, 05:52 PM
thats true...today i did my first 2 robo kqs and i failed the first one and won the second (got a +3 lvl 40 axe too...its awsome) but the one thing that truely scared me was in the first there was my guild master who was tanking and he was doing a good job...till we got out. he went and kicked robo and then then i think i saw a cleric go res someone else so the gm died. after that robo went after that cleric and then after the dude who was resd then me. i got pwned by the amount of 45+ monsters coming so i had to leave the kq. that was incredibaly wierd. i really wanted someone to res my gm so we could get back but then i saw the very bad "FAIL" sign and all of us were in roumen and mad. it sucked. it sucked tons. another reason to have tons of clerics and ~>"TRUE"<~ tanks. thats about the end of my rant/support of true tanks. so what up peoples?
stormy89
04-28-2008, 10:08 PM
im stormyX from server apoline
im lvl 64 warrior with pure end
im thinking to quit this game because at lvl 64 i got all the skill for warrior, besides i agreed that warrior has less magic def from any classes and this game enhancing system is unbalanced, enhancing armor to +9 only add your physical def, not your magic def. Since im pure end fighter, i works well in party, but in alot of case, i will die because of elemental mobz that i couldn't tank very well since my magic def is too low. I dont know any other solution for my warrior, to reset stats is very costly, im using 1h with shield. Lvl 1-59 pure end fighter is like a god in party. When i hit lvl 60+, im nothing just a lure tool (all other classes can lure too), because mage is overpower, at lvl 60+, mage can tank and aoe 50 times better than pure str fighter duo with cleric. I noticed that, enchanter with 50% hp/sp extender + t3 scrolls vit, def, they can tank and aoe at the same time hundred time better than a fighter with cleric (they will getting more powerful with +9 blue staff/wand). I feel like an idiot because i dont have any value in a party (just a luring tool). Well to reset to pure str is very costly, pure str warrior is more is not better than a mage (even mage with pure str). So what's the point i still playing fighter in this game? Just to become a luring tool? Cleric lvl 60+ can heal, so they still important, archer lvl 60+ as a dps, very useful, mage lvl 60+ , too powerful. Warrior lvl 60+ is a luring tool (only can hold aggro for period of time). I've 5 points on mock cd, 15 points on devastate (atk,cd,buff), i tried alot of way to tank. Well Seras guide for tanking might be useful for lvl 1-59, when u hit lvl 60+, thinking to reset ur build.
I dont know maybe im a bad tanker, well, fighter need add +10-30% physical damage on 1h. At lvl 64 i got all warrior skill (no new skill for fighter only upgrading skill there). Maybe i'll quit if there is no improvement for fighter, aoe skills devastate 14 secs, whirlwind 2mins, too long. Mage with nova can do 10 times better than this, at lvl 67 they have inferno. Well, maybe there is some suggestion for me, and i hope ill stay in fiesta, and need some suggestion from pros out there. Thx.
(Sorry for my worst+bad+lame english)

I'm glad you all found it useful!
At this time I'm taking some time away from the forums in order to spend time In-Game. I'm also testing out a few more tanking methods on my own Warrior, and taking screenies. This is so that I can update the guide from not just a 1-60 layout but a 1-XX kind and so I can get more in touch as to what us players ourselves have to deal with, not just what can be observed from the posts within the forums. Please, feel free to comment on anything I've posted, make corrections, or suggestions on anything I should add to this guide. Though I may not respond as quickly as I have in the past, I am paying attention to everything you each have to say. You can also contact me through #outspark on irchighway.

Hi there peeps,
I don't know why but at lvl 19 i had the highest def in the the mara KQ, how can this be there were 23+ tanks who had less def, i wasn't even using a scroll.
i am exactly balanced on end and str, is that why?

Some really elemental things about tanking worth mentioning, just in terms of low-level technique (pre-devastate and mock):
Snearing kick has a short range, so you do not want to use it as a pulling technique, even inadvertantly. Wait for the archer or mage to pull, then kick the mob as it's running towards the party. Ideally, the mob should veer to one side and go towards you. Once the mob's on you, lead off with slice and dice, spam snearing kick, and mix in your debuffs as best you can.
Also - and this is really, really basic - some of the taller mobs, like Marlone Captains, don't respond well if you click on their head to target them. There's nothing more embarassing than attmepting to target a pulled mob with a kick, only to go trotting past it into a group of three or four other mobs. Click on a mob's hips for best results.

Some people may find a reduce in Sp cost useful, hence the [Optional] I placed next to the disputable empowerments.
This is mostly just a guide for tanking, it's not going to be useful for everyone that reads it. But if it helps some other who does not know as much about tanking then the thread has served its intended purpose. Also it is currently under going a bit of reworking at this time.

i am definately a skill spammer.. and i go through my full sp stones in an hour, but i still dont find it worth exchanging dmg for sp. my build on the other hand is hybrid.. i dont go pure anything cuz i see that as making one strong point and leaving all other areas open. the build on my character now is 33 end 12 str and 17 spr. when i get my spr to 25 i will distrbute to other areas because the 5% extra crit is better than the base dmg you get from str. take that 5% from free stats, add it to 2% earrings, 13% axe, and 5% suit.... and you out DD any pure str fighter out there. that would give you 25% critical chance, and although it is a chance... you come up with the 5-10 crit streaks and ppl die lol

If your current build, and by what you have said, is a STR/END focused one, and you find it working for you then by all means go for it. You don't have to stick to the single or 25 statted ones. What your speaking of would be considered a Hybrid build.
Also you don't exactly need a DEF suit from the cash shop, but it would make it easier for you to train and such. But it's up to you in the end.

I am a lvl 35 fighter -
My build is +15 str +25 End and + 5 spirit I think those are my stats - I seem to do very good on my own and I have tanked for several parties and have not gotten any of them killed (yet)
I think it's style of play and people in your party that ulmately make the team - not just the ability of the tanker to do everything perfectly.
Kuydo
06-18-2008, 08:13 PM
That can be very true in some situations, and having useful party members is always a plus. But during times, such as AoEs, it's not going to be very beneficial to your party if the one chosen as the tank is running around pulling with the wrong skills, or spamming devastate before the mobs get a chance to reach the party.
None of us are prefect and we are going to make mistakes, but we each do have our own way of playing. This guide is here for those who wish to know some of the more common practices that the tanker of the party is often expected to fulfill and give them advice and help with it if needed. It certainly can't help in every situation.

~The all END build~
Ah, the full End tank. Savor of the Kingdom Questers and AoE Tank extraordiair. This build almost always gets guaranties you a party, even with your slightly lower damage, your high Hp and Def will have you taking on monsters many levels above your own. Be warned though, at high levels this build can be heavily party reliant.
could i do half END and Half STR?

could i do half END and Half STR?
I currently doing a 1:1 STR/END build and it works well for me. Mostly, it's based on preference and the weapon of choice.
