[Event] Staff Signature Contest

[GM_Steam]

Hello Outspark friends,

The Outspark Staff needs your help! The staff are in need of new signatures and we want YOU to make that happen for us. Show us your creativity and create a signature for your favorite staff member. Each staff member will decide on their favorite signature and use that signature for at least one month. They will also include “Create by” text under their new signature. Artists who are selected will win an awesome holiday prize package for your favorite Outspark game! For more details, please read below.

Event Period: December 12, 2007 ~ December 19, 2007
Prize Distribution: December 21, 2007

Entry Rules
1. There are 9 signatures that will be chosen which means a total of 9 winners will be selected.
2. You can choose to create the signature for one or more of your favorite staff members. The more staff members you create for, the better chance you have!
3. You can only be selected to win by one staff member.
4. Last day for submission is December 19, 2007
5. All entries must be your own work, anyone caught using somebody else's work will have their entry disqualified.
6. All entries must be added to this thread on or before December 19, 2007 (http://www.outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29720)

1. Signatures cannot contain inappropriate material
2. Signature size must be 450x175
3. .jpg or .gif format only
4. Must contain Outspark Staff member’s name

Meh, I wasn't going to enter this competition...
For one thing, the prize really doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm sorry, but you're just not going to find my character running around in a 'santa-skirt', just not going to happen.
Now, a pet, or even a beauty-shop-coupon, i would appreciate. *chuckle* or perhaps a trip to one of Steam's many secret locations...
Anyway, after reading the thread, my head was filled with ideas, and once they were screaming in my brain I had to pen them down... >_<
And, now... I don't really know what else to do but post them.
Not that it matters, I've seen the competition, and all the best entries tend to come on the last day anyway, so I'm not worried about winning, and I'm sure the prizes will go to people who will truly appreciate their holiday outfits.

Well, I don't really know Biski, and I spent plenty of times trying to scout a picture of him in the forums, but, alas, 'twas not to be...
As it turns out though, going through my screenshots, I found an accidental Biski in one. He was running and his fancy shield was blocking his face though... -_-
I tried to make out the shape of the hair, though the only thing I could really see is the colour, and I tried to cross-reference what I could see of his outfit with other pics, and eventually managed to draw a whole Biski (I think...), but a whole Biski just didn't fit nicely into a sig.
So here's half of him, sans the fancy sword and long, sleek boots.

they also changed the fact that .gifs can be used too (that's tuesday @ 12:41pm Hawaii Standard Time gmt-10)... *shrug* well my entries have come from multiple other series, so i guess that disqualifies me. i can't draw to save my life and i don't care to use screenshots for these... i do understand though that this is a commercially sponsored webstie/forum so they need to protect themselves.

I kind of thought too that the originality points toward design and creativity. Most sigs I've seen here or anywhere else are made using artwork from other sources :/ I'd say 90% of the sigs submited into this contest are made that ways and staffs have commented on that they liked them (ones that contain images from anime, games, etc.) . So...I'd say that i'm rather confused on what's allowed and what's not.

RYOSHIN - Not about Copyrighted images; If that was really your intention, should have stated it more specifically. Like "The use of copyrighted images are prohibited, artists are only limited to fiesta images/images personally designed-handdrawned.. Misunderstanding on this rule kinda killed off 80% the whole competition.

I apologize for not being clear enough at the start of the competition. The phrase "someone else's work" was evidently too vague.

FATALLACE - *shrug* well my entries have come from multiple other series, so i guess that disqualifies me. i can't draw to save my life and i don't care to use screenshots for these... i do understand though that this is a commercially sponsored webstie/forum so they need to protect themselves.

I appreciate the latter portion of this comment. Without wading through a load of legal mumbo-jumbo here, suffice it to say that we can't be awarding prizes to items prominently featuring the hard work of other folks (no matter how nice they might look).

SOULEYES - I kind of thought too that the originality points toward design and creativity. Most sigs I've seen here or anywhere else are made using artwork from other sources :/ I'd say 90% of the sigs submited into this contest are made that ways and staffs have commented on that they liked them (ones that contain images from anime, games, etc.) . So...I'd say that i'm rather confused on what's allowed and what's not.

Originality does refer to design and creativity, but if part of that includes someone else's work it's not entirely your own, right? My mom always told me that something isn't OK just because everyone else does it. :D

I apologize if positive feedback from staff pushed any of you in the wrong direction. I personally commented on several sigs I thought were nice, without saying whether they met contest guidelines. That being said, a lot of the imagery could come from copyrighted sources and many of us wouldn't realize it - popular imagery is always easier to identify. Nonetheless, I can see how positive feedback implies legitimacy. Please know that all of these comments will be used to improve future contests. This discussion also doesn't change the attractiveness of the final products - the sigs you all submitted are really awesome!

I hope you can understand that as representatives of Outspark, we cannot write posts on the forums that feature signatures with elements like characters from WoW, console games, anime series or anything else not created or licensed by our company.

I promise we'll be more clear next time. Thanks again for taking the time to create and submit your work - I personally don't see any of your efforts as wasted and I hope none of you feel that way.

oh btw to add to above:

copyright doesnt include images such as wallpapers as long as u dont alter them for comercial use... just thought id lend in some of my moderator expertise from proffesional design sites on criteria of ripped an non ripped pieces.
