The Rarity of Yellow Watermelons

I just found a yellow watermelon at Belteranin Forest. It took me THREE levels (43~46 + 20%) to finally find one, if that helps. That calculates to about 1 in 1067 monsters will drop a watermelon. >_> I'm guessing the drop rate of yellow watermelons is set to about 1/1000. [subject to change]

Found my second yellow watermelon today (level 49, 32.69%). I know that I was at level 48 (0%) when the patch was implemented. Is this an increase in YWM drop rate? Perhaps...

Found my third yellow watermelon from yet another Kabino. I'm level 50, 16.01% now - that means it took me 83.32% to get my next yellow watermelon post-patch. That calculates to... roughly 925 monsters killed between each watermelon.

...I suppose 1/925 is better than 1/1067. >_>;

Found my fourth watermelon just now at level 50, 41.96% - that's a mere 25.95% further!

Meaning...! 1/288 monsters will drop one. :D So, yes! The post-patch update works. ^^

Final Update: Found my fifth and final yellow watermelon at level 50, 67.16% from a Dale Snake - 25.20% more than my last drop.

The verdict!

1/280 monsters (in Belteranin Forest) will drop a yellow watermelon (and, yes, I did get a Xen stone or two there, too). So, yes, the patch did raise the yellow watermelon drop rate by as much as 4x!!!

6th time - Teethina, Baskerville Forest, Level 51 (57.47%)

7th time - Bailey Plains, Level 52 (32.69%)

8th time - Bailey Plains, Level 52 (68.38%)

9th time - Bailey Plains, Level 53 (3.82%) - from a Scoliter.

10th time - Bailey Plains, Level 53 (5.15%) - from an Achang.

It dropped from a Kebino (probably the most aggressive monster on the map) the first time. It dropped from a Sould Ball (second most aggressive monster on the mpa) the second time.
The spawn rate is decent on the map; however, there's usually at least 2-8 other people on the map, so actually finding some spawn to kill (since I solo) can be huge pain in the ****.

I'm happy to share this information with the community, but I just ask that people respect others while hunting on the same map (ie, no ks'ing, etc). :rolleyes:

yeah they screwed up the drop rate pretty hard for YWMs..Like screw u guys we know u want pets but we gonna make it incredibly difficult

all i know is that i would stoop as low as to be a players in game slave for a months worth of time, if it ment i could get a pet... i wants one..i wants it a lots...

hey tea fan. i'm an acolyte. i'll follow you around wherever you go and heal/ buff you with all i have. you can have all the exp/kron/items. if you trade me a yellow watermellon or two. think about it...your own personal acolyte to watch over your health, and keep you nice and buffed. i'll even unbuff the players around you so that you kill faster than them, if you want a nice advantage, when trying to solo. youll be sure to get more monsters that way!

I dunno, but grapes started dropping a few days ago, and tangerines are gone

To thrakx: I think it's a good idea to set the drop rate for yellow watermelons extremely low - you need some rare items in the game, and since this one does give you a pet, I'd rather be one of the rare few with a pet than one of many.

To SephirZ: Sorry, but I'm saving my Kron and time to get my own pet, ie. I'm not selling any yellow watermelon I find.

To Horforia: ...Obviously, you're extremely desperate for a pet. Sorry, but I'm going to have to turn down your offer. I really want a pet, too, and I'm willing to earn my own, whether it be through hunting for hours on end or buying yellow watermelons at exorbitant prices. Personally, I'm sort of offended by your suggestion at anti-buffing other players so that I can 'have an advanatage'. Sorry, but that seems extremely ... well, how shall I phrase it ... NOT in the spirit of the game. (P.S. Antibuff only works on monsters, I believe. =) )

To DiforceX: I've found several tangerines in Belteranin Forest already. ...Not sure which monsters drop them, specifically, but I'll try PM'ing you when I figure out which on the map. =) I think they're pretty rare, too. Perhaps 1/400 monsters(?).

i was not jokeing oddly enough...i usualy am the first one to be sarcastic or crack a joke, but i seriously do want a pet. it is my one quest in SoS as of right now. once i get a pet i'm sure i'll have another quest, but untill i get one i realy want one, and will devote all my time and efforts into getting one.

I think deep down everyone wants a pet to follow them but the truth is they arent good for anything. They JUST follow you around. No extra EXP boosts or increase MP or anything. They just add to your weight so they must constantly follow you. And the only pets availiable now are the three Pocu's (blue, pink, orange) and they are set to random so you dont even get to pick.

Im saving my YWM for something much better. Hoepfully they will have a new pet avaliable, maybe they will release a new one in the shop thats supposed to open up (anybody know when? XD ) but anyways...

My advice....

Sell any YWM you get at the highest price you can, hopefully by the time you've gotten enough to buy 5 back, they will be much cheaper (or you at least break even).

Today, there was a server restart and Break reported that the dropping rates of Xen stones and Yellow Watermelons will be increased. The lv for doing the pet quest is now at 25 instead of 35, which they will hopefuly have made all the lv 30+ ppl easy to achieve now.

Well i got 4 Xen stone and 4 YWM in 3 days after the rate drop has increased. In fact, I managed to get two Xen stone in the space of 3 minutes from Teethina in Urail. Lucky huh...

Well, they DID lower the quest level to 25, rather than 35.

Well reading the drop rates and the levels that the OP got them I would say that I (Level 25 Squire) am pretty much out of luck until I get to a higher level or make a ton of money.

well i just want to say... i had a ywm once... and you know what i did with it? i GAVE it away. and you know how that made me feel? really freakin good. i saw how rare and valuable they were... but someone asked me for one for free... and to be honest.. i'm hella far away from even getting a pet... so i said why not. i think there are better ways making kron then selling ywm. but then...who has the same insight as me?

I gave away one for free to a whiny beggar in my party who already found 2 ywm in one day. You know what that person did afterwards? Whine and beg for more. I guess that's what I get for trying to be a nice person. :(

That's...really statistical. o___0 I'm not sure about you, but the the first day I went searching for YWMs, I got one. Next day, I got one. Then it was a week later before I got another, I think, and then I got another soon after (then I got my wittle pet using those 4 and the one I got from winning a duel).

After that I've gotten xen stones and YWMs rather quickly (because I'm not searching for them). I've gotten 5 YWMs (Saving for the pet update) and 4 xen stones, two within 10 minutes of each other.

That doesn't tell you anything in depth but I'm pretty sure that the update helped out a ton, since the prices plummeted and the previous month I hadn't gotten anything.

man I'm unlucky, from lvl 40-48 I've only got 1 ywm, and that was from a random gray/blue mob I killed on my way to a map with white mobs :(

it doesn't matter where you are they drop from anything. I got my first YWM from a pangya in Death Valley at lvl 19.
