Not to shove my own ideals down anyone's throats or anything, but I have to say I've never liked 'recruitment based on level' solely. Level doesn't determine skill, or ability in the least bit. Bots are an excellent example of this. They may be leve 4x or 5x, but does that make them a good player? Nope. Merely a program.
This is true about players too. I can't count the number of players in the ranges of 4x+ that are simply awful at the play style typically associated with their class, or even build. I've met level 1's with the ability of pro's, and level 50's dumber than rocks. How can you recruit based on a mere number then?
Quick Edit: Don't take this little rant offensively, I just feel that you're cutting your own recruitment standards short in such a way. Heck, today, I found a level 19 Cleric that worked her butt off in a CP party, and I was only level 25 as the tank at that time. She was quick, responsive, and very generous.

alden-
the reason for the lvl requirement, though you're right it doesn't determine skill/dedication/knowledge, is simply because of guild wars. if we were an exhibition guild i don't think we'd have any problems adding the lowbies in. you make valid points, but what fun does a lvl 11 person have in a guild war vs player 4 or 5 times their level?

What's to say then, that every guild has nothing but 4x's or 5x's in it, and nothing under? The game population does not approve of that line of thought, and it's quite true in Bijou I know, that not every guild has that stalwart of a general population.
But to go onto the question further: Most players are willing to duel someone of a relatively close level range of their opponent if asked. Furthermore...Guild Wars are meant for casual enjoyment, no? In lieu of that, is winning the ultimate goal? If not, then what's to say a level 1x/2x can't have fun? I loved being able to stun the badur outta GM's who were level 150when I was level 2x. Gotta love them debuffs that don't require Aim.

well the guild wars that i've witnessed were simply lowbie massacres by lvl 40+ camping the spawn points in elderine. this forced some of those lowbies to completely log off for the one hour that the war took place and then resulted in them quitting their guild completely because they couldn't get out of elderine. some of them were trying to run to FoM or SoG or even MT, but were getting one-shotted by a regular arrow, not even a skill!
while i personally have no qualms about adding people of any level as long as there is some merit to their character, i'm not the final deciding voice of our guild. in our 2 days of existence we've already fought two wars.
and who's to say that "the game's population does not approve of that line of thought?" are you the voice of the bijou population? (not meaning to come off as harsh, but you shouldn't assume). there are litterally 100 guilds now in bijou, there are plenty of guilds out there for anyone of any level. there is nothing wrong with having minimum standards for enrollment. btw, most of my friends in this game are not associated with this guild, nor would they even qualify for entry. it doesn't bother them in the least and it does not affect our relationships one way or another.

My my. What firey replies. I like it. I however, do keep my eyes open regarding such matters. Just looking around you can see the majority of players in guilds are 2x-3x.
And don't worry. I take very little offensively. And it's also true that the game's population does not agree with this. There is not enough of a population of people 4x+ to support guild wars relying solely on levels to win. I'm not the voice of the Bijou Population. Stroll around Uruga. You'll see the same faces in the same places. No one new of such levels.
It's been real, and it's been fun, but I can't say it's been real fun. I'm done on this thread for now.
