It's been a long time since i've found something new that looks interesting, this seems like it has a lot of potential.
I've been playing MMORPG's for about 7 years, started with Everquest on the Tarrew Marr server, made it to 65 Ranger, 65 Shaman, 65 Enchanter before i decided it was time to move on. I moved on to Everquest 2 on it's launch day.
The game was cool, but the world got small, really fast. It lacked end game content, as I had reached the level cap in 3 months, and beat every end game boss, and had the best gear. At that point i was really starving for something else, so i went back to everquest. For some reason i just couldn't seem to get back into it, even though they had just released a bunch of new content, raised the level cap, and there were a* bunch of new quests and such to do. At that point in time, a friend suggested I take a look at Final Fantasy XI.
I figured why not, and gave it a shot. I couldn't get used to it, though. The controls were so foreign from what i was used to it was misserable. Targeting was a nightmare, movement was extremely akward, one chat window scrolled by so fast i couldn't see what was going on. I was getting really discouraged, when the friend that pointed it out told me to stop trying to play it like everquest, and start playing it like a final fantasy. Instantly i knew what he was talking about, as I had played hundreds of hours in final fantasy's from the NES, to the SNES, to the PS1 to the PS2. I went to bestbuy and got myself a usb ps2 controller, set it up, and boom, the world changed. The game's movement, targeting, fighting, everything because so natural feeling and simple, i was relieved.
So I played FFXI for years, until my wife went crazy, and while i was away on a business trip went in and liquidated my gear to gil, took all my gil and gave it away, and deleted my character. I got back, logged in, and was like ***. Everything was gone, no character to even log into. At that point i decided to jump into the beta for vanguard: saga of heroes, as i had been folllowing it's production for some time, and already recieved the beta invite.
The beta went for a long time, i did everything i could to assist in building up the game, and it had great potential. Unfortuantly, they ran out of money about 4-5 months early, and sony being the publisher, was pushing for launch date. The game ended up hitting the stores about 3 months prior to being really ready. Since there were so many grinders in it, many quickly found the mid and end game content wasn't anywhere close to being finished. Subscritpion numbers dwindled, and thus server populations dwindled. The game, which had the largest world i've seen to date by far, became desolate. Traveling an hour to meet a group doesn't bother me. Traveling an hour to meet a group, then getting there, having 2 dps leave, and being unable to replace them because there isn't anyone else online in that level range, does bother me. So, i quit.
I bought a new ffxi box, which had all the expansions on one dvd, installed it, made a new character, and i'm back in the game. Grinding away, level 52 white mage, 29 black mage and other odd jobs around 10-15, the anouncement of the new expansion has become public knowledge. Winter 07 will be the next launch. Meanwhile, i'm struggling to get my white mage artifact gear, through the promy missions, to the point where i can hit ToAU and enjoy some of that content, when i realize that by the time i have the gear, gil, and levels to start with ToAU, the new expansion will be out and no one will be working on ToAU, and i'll have to start over again getting caught up.
In short, now i'm teetering back and forth with what i'm going to do with ffxi, drop it or keep with it. The only problem is, there's nothing worth picking up if i drop it, so what then? I've been teetering on this decision for about 2 months now, and then i find Fiesta, from a random banner somewhere, and decide to google it.
Sure enough it leads me here. I start trolling the forums, reading as much as i can, as well as the guides, news, etc. I realize that the closed beta 2 is only a few days away, so i sign up, and pray for an invite. The game looks like it has a lot of potential, so i'd like to get into beta, and help where i can, to help build myself a home for the next MMORPG that i'll be with.
So, in short; Hello everyone! Doozo Yoroshiku^^!
