Hello , i created a lvl 1 fighter after seeing some of the tank in K.Qs suck pretty bad. So i was wondering if anyone would like to Plvl me at orcs or something cause it raises ur exp and helps me lvl faster , its a win-win and i want to help someone out with the bonus exp. Na man , still using my archer for guild dd means but i just want a fighter that can help the guild and other players tank , since i know how and most fighters dunno what their doing. This is just like a helper char i wanna lvl , and since other people can get exp bonus from lvling it , why not let them have that bonus? I know TerraNovar or w/e likes the bonus.

True words to an extent. It's not that they don't know, it's that they simply don't keep up on it. Meaning, they may only kick/mock once, when doing this multiple times in experienced parties is required to keep monster aggression on you.

I wasnt saying that ALL fighters are bad tanks , just saying that most that ive seen only keep hate for like 2 seconds then its a FFA run fest. But im sorry if i offended u , i didnt mean to. I just played many games and most games ive played im tanker. WoW i have a 70 full prot warrior in full veng glad and on FFXI im a 75war and 75pal. Working on 75 NIN its only lvl 68 atm. I just wanted to see how tanking works on this and if its really as hard as some people make it out to be.

Well, I'm not sure about the higher levels, but I can attest that at low levels, tanking is cake, yet still some fighters can't manage to do it. I got tired or horrid tanks myself, so I've now got a level 18 (almost 19 now) full end tank. I'd offer to help you out, but seeing as my highest char is a level 20 cleric that hasn't even finished the res quest yet because I've been working on my tank, I don't think I'd do too great.

Not all fighters are meant for AoE Tanking, like you guys are referring to more than often. Some are pure strength and DD purpose, this is for solo means only, but for group you must have a combination of defense and strength.

First off, it is hard to take an agro off a mage when doing AoE, because the average mage does more damage per hit than a fighter does. It would take a critical from a fighter to get the monsters attention. That is why we refer to mock to draw the attention of the mob away from other players, then devastates to stun them or whatever skill you want to low their attack rate; this will help keep the Tanker alive and the cleric enough time to heal.

Only mocking once will not be very effective in AoE, you must mock whenever your skill becomes available. Just make sure to kick when a mob becomes stray and runs off after a cleric, mage, or archer if you must. I always ask my AoE tanks to save kick for when the mob decides to change targets.

As a mage, I would need a wonderful tank, one that doesn’t allow me to die so easily with dozens of mobs chasing me about the map.

Something else to consider, the use of skills in general, whether they work/land or not, creates hate. A good skill rotation for a Tank in AoE situations, from my experience is thus: Mock->Devastate->Demoralizing Hit->Reapply Toughness->Repeat until all mobs are down.

One more person in party has bonus exp? I like that. A lot of noobs ask for plvl using that as a reason in uruga.

Taking about FFXI, it's a no life game that ive quited 1year ago. lol.
I've only 1 lvl75 NIN (FULL MERIT on everything).
Come to think of it, it had taken my life. lol.
Fiesta is better, i believe it's not hard to be a tanker, just give some time.
Fiesta is leisure play, I love it better!!

My mage, archer, and sometimes cleric, have all been the victims of less than stellar tanking. I have lost count as to how many times my mage has died, becuase I attracked a monsters aggro, and the fighters just attacked it as it ran up to me. The kick is there for a reason! That's one reason why I love my cleric. If something starts attacking you, people jump on it pronto!
