If you don't like whining and complaining, then....
DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING!!

COMPLAINING AND WHINING BELOW HERE

I am just curious who came up with the monster AI. I think the monster personality is to be a bully. In a party if a monster is an A-hole and just out of nowhere attacks you, it's fine. But if you would like to solo to try and catch up to your friends, you should get ready for disappointment. Nothing like "almost" killing the same monster a dozen times, because some "bully" monster spawns next to you, yet again and again and again. I mean cmon. This is frustrating not fun. It isn't a challenge when it takes 4 hits to be killed but takes you 12 - 15 hits to kill 1 monster. Ohh and don't stop hitting the monster for a few seconds, it will regen 1/2 its hp.

I just want to solo and kill 1 monster at a time, if I have to frantically deal with 1 aggressive while I kill a monster that's fine. So I run away from the entrance and drag 6 monsters behind me potting like crazy, because naturally 6 of the 8 monsters at the entrance were aggressive. Run run run run run return scroll, use pots so MP/HP are full, warp scroll, yay 2 monsters that were not aggressive are still there, step 2 squares from the safe area and both monsters double attack me and I die. OK, I'm not annoyed for using 20+ salts that took me over an hour to collect just to clear the entrance, but I am annoyed that the 2 monsters that were not aggressive the first run magically became aggressive and beat me down before I could move 2 squares back into the safe zone.

Leveling is a chore not a challenge anyway. There is no skill involved when you are unable to leave a safe zone to even attempt to level because every monster on screen is aggressive doing 100+ dmg a hit and it's completely impossible to solo taking on 5 monsters by yourself when they like to use their cheating skill. The cheating skill being the one where the monster can hit you from 3/4 of a screen away. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you clearly don't solo much on anything higher than kitties.

So ya, I am faced with the decision, go kill monsters closer to my level and get crap exp, or go watch tv for a while and try to level later when maybe the monsters will drop their bully attitude for a minute and I can get a few % before dying again.

If I had the physical address of the person who decided on this "special" AI, I could bring a few of my friends over and give them a demonstration on how the AI works, then they could have a better understanding of how completely whacked it is.

mkay, I feel better now.

there is a big difference between and "hard game" and a "boring game"
quietbit got right points in his post and yes, the exp system and the related aggros and monsters attitude are simply not good at all in sos
sos from the title of "hard game" become a simply "boring game"

that's it

That the game is boring has nothing to do with monsters being aggressive. If they all were passive it'd be even more boring.

i actually had the most fun in santas lair, all aggro was fun, keeps you on your toes. much more of a challende then if they are alll passive.

yes a game should keep you on your toes to stop it from becoming boring.

i like there attitude in the novice lab any monster that looks at you attacks you making it a challenge to get to the end for that sheep helm

ins antas lair monsters will just as soon look at you as they will attack you and invite some buddys i faugt of 4 things in there once on floor one with just a level 24 squire

and if you don't want to sit there and kill monster your level so you go to a higher level area say just north of essene and you get thunders cast on you from 3/4 of screen away as you say then why complain its magic its meant to be cast at a distance and higher level monster equals higher level damage

as for the exp rates yeah they do suck at times especiallywhen partying in low level areas but in a area you have n business in you gain decent exp and good items partying

if your gonna solo in harder ares be prepared to pot spam i do it i buy 100 pots and go north of essene to level 2 and 3 exp per kill and 100 pots lasts me about a good 30 minutes there for about half a leve to a level at times

I see the 3/4 screen atk thing coming from donkeys and things above that level most often. running from a monster and I get pretty far ahead, then cast shield and the "melee" monster smacks me from 3/4 of a screen away, then continues to run at me. which is ok if it's only 1 monster, but if you have 4+ aggressives chasing, i don't stop to cast anything. it seems like anytime i cast while fleeing, they like to hit me from an unreal distance.

bottom line, the game may be just right for some people, and others may just get frustrated and go play something else. cant make everyone happy. but i think the resounding exp and pot issues expressed by players in the forums is a large percentage of the games population.

i still like the overall game and i will check in on it from time to time, but for right now, i'm finished playing. at least until it's out of OB and matures a bit more.

also none of my complaining directly applys for anyone under level 50.
