Mentality raises Defense and magical Defense. If you dont believe that go to the game guide then to game basics and finally to Operating a Character. At the bottom of that page is a description of what each attribute does. If u trust me then just look below this. I copied and pasted this from site.

Main Status

Strength (POW) : affects Attack and WT (weight of portable items)
Intelligence (INT) : affects Magic Attack
Agility (AGI) : affects Attack speed, an Accuracy rate, Critical, and Moving Speed
Mentality (MEN): Affects Accuracy rate, Defense, Magic Defense, and Skill Casting Speed
Stamina (STA) : increases HP
Wisdom (WIS) : determines Magic Defense and MP

So basically in my opinion the best build would be a build 2 power, 2 mentality, 1 stamina. Since the main purpose of a squire isnt damage but more being the targets attention and surviving I believe that. Squires are the tanks not the atomic bomb

simple put Defense > than Offense = squire

Basically I just wanted everyone who didnt already know that mentality adds physical defense and magic defense to know that when creating a squire or disciple.

p.s if u dont agree dont get mad this is just my opinion :D

Yeah i saw al those things as well....

but even if u put into ment your def wont get up.

try it with a new char lvl it to 16 and then put all points in ment

U will see that you are not going to have even 1 point change in defense. Your hit for skills and normal attacks gonna go up to 12 though.

Check it....

I go with ment anyway till i hit critics 10 both

Yah, men doesnt increase def right now (who knows, maybe it will in the future? or it's just another typo... not like it'd be the first).

And btw, less damage => lose aggro => sucky tank

The guide has others errors as well. First, wis won't increase magic defense, only mp, which makes it even more useless than it already is =/

Also, agi won’t increase hit rate or move speed, but it will increase attack at a lower rate than pow.

Finally, men will actually increase both skill and normal critical, and at a lower rate, it gives some avoid/evasion, which is always a plus.

If they do change things I hope it won't drastically alter current builds or else we'll need a stat reset.

That's unlikely to happen, changing the way status work would mean changing part of the base of the game itself, any bug on that section was probably corrected one the alpha stages of the game.
