Vista Basic works on my laptop for SoS. Try using google and download the latest possible direct X(version 10).

But you can try this one if finding the latest doesn't work:

Ok so i downloaded direct x and met all the requirements for SoS. Yet it still shows the black screen on it. What do i do?

Checked that your videocards are up to date on updates? If it continues showing a black screen you should bring further questions to the troubleshooting subforum of SoS.

You can go to this thread: http://www.outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28453
It will tell you how to find out what video card you have, as well as provide links to drivers for the most common cards and a link to the minimum requirements in case you need to check if you meet them or not. I hope that helps:D
