Is archer any good....

Ok,

I have a level 22 1:1 END/SPR cleric.... I'm thinking of making a Archer but people have been telling me archer's are no good and they suck.... and I'm also reading that pure str archers are good.....

I was thinking if I get enough people saying that archer's are good I would at least try making one.... Would a 1:1 STR/END archer work?

What do you people think about archers? are they any good?

I would check out http://www.outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13790 to get a good sense of suggestions and concerns over archers. Many of the players here have a lot of experience and some excellent suggestions as far as builds.
