I recently found out about this game and haven't read too much about it, but I read that Mentality affects defense, which is my favorite stat in MMORPGs. I have two questions to ask:
1. Which class is the best for a defense build?
2. Are there stat requirements for each class, or can I put most of my points in Mentality?

Um... I'm guessing Squire for (1), and yes to (2).

as a x.enian just put all your stats into POW, you get a reset at job change
No stat increases defense, however STA increases HP

Only way to increase your defense is by getting better equips and buffs. No stats affect your defense. As for which class has the highest defense, i'd say Squire.

Indeed, that guide has quite a few mistakes, so you better look for posts around these forums that have the real effects of each stat.

i say chaosad ur juz guessing cos there really is a stat dat adds defense
Main Status
Strength (POW) : affects Attack and WT (weight of portable items)
Intelligence (INT) : affects Magic Attack
Agility (AGI) : affects Attack speed, an Accuracy rate, Critical, and Moving Speed
Mentality (MEN): Affects Accuracy rate, Defense, Magic Defense, and Skill Casting Speed
Stamina (STA) : increases HP
Wisdom (WIS) : determines Magic Defense and MP

I see. Will mentality ever do as it says or do you think I need to choose a new build?

Even though I know you said Defense is your favorite Stat, I lean more towards AGI and its benefits of speed & avoidance, which more than make up for a high defense.
If that helps you. ;o

If MEN helps magic defense in anyway, they may want to take another look at it.

Learn how to read budy, we already said that the contents from that guide are wrong.

Highly unlikely. Having something that important as stats so badly bugged up to such a later point would be hard, even for the worst development team. And considering how much people has commented about it, even while on CB, if they haven’t fixed it then it’s no bug. Also, from xenepic I do know that men won’t raise def, so that’s actually the biggest reason for it to be normal that way.

That really depends on the class, only the rogue path will benefit a lot from agility, thanks to their natural bonuses on that department. I wouldn’t count on the “defensive” side of agi for any other class.
If MEN helps magic defense in anyway, they may want to take another look at it.
If men did raise mdef, then apprentices with high men would notice a difference on the damage they receive on the class survivor events. Therefore, it’s quite safe to assume that men doesn’t raise mdef.

Just because the website says so doesn't mean it's true. We players conducted tests to see what each stat raises and how much stat is needed to raise something by 1 point.
In CB there were people that had around 30 MEN and none of them saw their Defense going up by even 1 point.
It may say so on the website but if it's not happening in the game then the guide is useless.
Actually that guide completely sucks, i'll tell you why:
Power: Correct
Intelligence: Correct
Agility: Affects Skill critical not Normal Critical. DOESN'T affect Movement Speed. Doesn't affect Hit Rate.
Mentality: Doesn't increase defense, i don't know about magic defense though. Also forgot to mention it increases Normal Critical.
Stamina: Correct
Wisdom: Don't know if it affects magic defense.
Half the entire game is full of bugs and typos and false information, don't believe anything you see either in-game or on the website, just ask us expert players.

i dodge about 40% of the hits, i know it's not literally defence, but it has the same effect. i actualy prefer dodge as when you get hit it slows you down a bit.
if that's what you like then go neophyte and pump AGI.
if it's physical defence you want then go Squire, they get some really nice amour. Your def will go up with every amour upgrade (approx every 10lvls). Also collect the +1 items, as they normally have +defense.

I believe my words were either passed over, or not specific enough.
As I said, IF (note the if, that leaves room for doubt) MEN raised defense, the GM's would have to take another look at it. (Why would GM's have to look at something that works? They don't...that was a hint if it did raise defense, which may have been the design of the game, it isn't)
I thought that perhaps my MEN would increase magic defense, so I went in the buff at a lower level and took some lightning (and various other types) damage. When my MEN hit the 40 (40, not a typo) mark, I checked again. No way in hell a point in MEN raised my magic defense by half, let alone a full point. I doubt it was even raised by .25.
MEN does not raise magic defense, and if someone wants to claim a higher MEN and counter my claims, I'm welcome to see it.

good, then you confirmed what everyone in this thread has been saying. that men correctly doesn't add to your defence.
BTW, i've been doing tests on the effects of various stats and how the affects change for different classes. could you please tell me what your crit rate is. and your skill spam speed. the skill spam speed isn't visible so you'll have to spam 10 hits in a row, and time it with a stopwatch. average this over a couple of mobs to get an accurate reading. you have sugh a high MEN that your stats will be very useful to add to my database for calculations.
