Can't Attack

I'm new to this game and just reached level 10. I tried going out to the field and training; however, when I tried to double click on a monster, my mouse skipped over it. I can only attack when the monster is within the boundaries of my chat box. Is there a way to fix this? I apologize if the answer was posted somewhere else, I haven't found it. Thank you.
