Um, I think it's when you get to 20 and do job change? I'm not too sure, but i think so.

at lvl 20 there is a quest that changes your class apon finishing it

The NPC that starts it is your class NPC in Elderine square. Not exactly sure of the name of it. But, you have to do the "Shadow Dungeon" to complete it. It is a instanced zone that you have to fight thru Including killing a doppleganger( mirror image) of yourself with 5000+ hps. You have to do it alone to.
