View Full Version : The archer optimism thread

Welcome to this pep rally of sorts where I try and explain my perceived advantages to being an archer. While my level isn't exactly end game material I have received some very prestigious self proclaimed titles. Those, along with a lack of sleep, give me the idea that my opinion should be read as fact. And please, if you can remind me why I should hate playing my archer don't hesitate to remind me as it keeps me motivated. In addition, if this isn't replied to within 3 days I'll assume that Im omnipotent and probably end up losing lots of exp through unnessary deaths.

First of all is our most obvious advantage, bragging rights. Sure anyone can get to lvl70, but is it because you had an AoE party? Based on roumor, an archer has no right to be there because of our weak AoE poisons and the fact that our only other attack is pathetically weak and takes near 15 seconds to recharge. A lvl 70 archer would probably be a much rarer, almost godly sight compared to a mage of the same level.

Our soloing abilities are supposedly phenominal, but I'd prefer to think of duoing. It's not hard to notice the difference between the one or two mobs you could kill with a stone or two and seeing a pile of corpses at your feat. Poisons give us the ability to do lots of damage to one monster, even damage to two monsters, or average damage to three so that by the time you're done killing the first mob the other two are half dead. With build its not uncommon to be able to do tons of damage on monsters that I probably shouldn't even be able to hit.

Our grouping abilities are lacking somewhat but we can easily fill the role of either tank or DD should the need arise. I suppose natures protection would be helpful if our cleric felt like tanking, but since I can't bear the thought of hurting one of my teamates it just lowers my actual skill list down to 3. But of course, other than clerics we're the only other remotely useful class to "powerlevel" since our damage likes to hit into the hundreds on monsters that could kill us with a single glance.

PvP seems to be the archers highpoint (if only that was worth something). With something as simple as an evasion scroll I was able to dodge 7/12 attacks compared to the usual 3/147 while fighting monsters. Now let me tell you, those dreaded mages are nothing when they're on the verge of death, struggling to do their 100 or so damage as you calmly let off a powershot moments before bleeding fades. I'm sure that with a magic def scroll the same outcome would exist up untill I need to worry about my buffs getting stolen. But mages are easy enough to kil, with the extra evasion I've found that the only class I'd have to worry about is another archer, clerics are stil invincible but they have as much a chance to hit me as I do to hit lvl70 by next week. (the previous statement loses validity should I be lvl69 and 97%)

So why don't people play as archers? Why don't us low levels get offered invited? I'd say its because of all these factual roumors about how we arnt needed, about how were outshined by every other class. I don't care if that's true or not but what I do care about is my teams well being and about our well being. Wether its being a second tank, decimating legions of green mobs, or training/warring that annoying KSer, people around might just notice and think to themselves, "Maybe those archers are more valuable than I thought". But what we need most are capable archers like yourselves, weather you're a new recruit or a seasoned veteran, to raise our reputations into the heavens like we deserve for our hard work. Its something only good players can do, but I'm sure you'll be good enough if you choose to stick with our job.

About myself, because you need a reason to beleive me. For the general information you can check my sig. Ive somehow managed to get a hold of some rare scrolls and have soloed in uruga at lvl32 but now I usually spend my soloing time in GC collecting equpits for my guildmates. My group time involves either CP, GC, or uruga with my guild and the occasional tagalong. In PvP I've killed everything but a cleric with the former as high as 6-8 levels above me. Never hesitate to ask for help should you need it in apoline and also make sure to behave while Im around, I do like to exterminate pests from time to time and I will keep a grudge should your actions deserve it. So untill I think of anything else to say, yay for optimism!

i'm a dex archer, and with a evade scroll i'm practically invincible to mages.

It truly is a wonderful alternative to the usual threads that populate this forum

Long, descriptive, unique, and optimistic! ^^
Well, now we do kind of see the bright side of archers. Soloing at Uruga at lvl 32 seems godly o-o"

Thanks, and +rep xD

Sweet! I've finally made a thread that's been able to help people without telling them exactly how to build their character. . Now I would like a new skill or two(seriously, 3 useful skills?) but I'd actually prefer our party buffs over some kind of stun(though it would be nice). But I suppose the only reason we havnt been able to get updated is because with our godly status in PvP a stun would make us a bit overpowered, on the other hand its something we would love to have more than anything against monsters.
Now about uruga at lvl32, it was godly and although nearly 1k exp per kill is unbeleivable (moreso at that level) please don't ask me to do it again. Those high teir scrolls probably cost more than it did to get there.. But it does show that if we're prepared we dominate the feild.

Great thread. (+rep)

It's funny how Archers have gotten to a point where we need encouragement... aww. :P But I agree with the duoing bit. If I've got myself a good cleric (or two) I don't have to worry so much about HP and can just keep killing one after another. Fast exp right there. If one goes off I've got AOE poison to gain aggro and I can take up to 5 Orcs if I need to (found out when I accidentally pulled that many o.o).

And we must be doing good if we're always gaining hate from boss mobs. I've 'tanked' the mini bosses in Dragon as well as the Mini Dragon itself (except for all the magic user bosses). When I go into Mini Dragon I'm most likely to be the second tank... just while the tank is Feared cause that's how long I'll last. :P Like you've said, if we're prepared we can dominate the field.

LOL, I can imagine how godly you were buffed up xD

Heehee, it is kinda sad we now need encouragement. But still, better that someone can actually make up encouragement than not be able to scavenge anything good at all, no? xD

Im so sorry that you went out and got killed TT-TT
I do have to say that those levels I spent before getting to where I am were tough as anything. Mages being able to decimate enemies before they reached them while I was running halfway across the map to kill a single bat. I'm sure things will get easier once you make a good cleric friend or join a guild. If you play on Apoline Im sure there are plenty of guilds looking for an archer *hint* *hint*
It feels like we have no kickass skilss, but if you feel bored you could always help low levels with their quests. I never though multishot could be so fun.
"how many honeyings and hobs?"
"15 hobs and 20 honeyings"
*multishot*
"now?"
"umm, 2 hobs"
Seriously, if anything makes multishot feel cool its this. But well, just stick with it because things will get a lot easier in time. It might just be me but a lot of the monsters are weaker at higher levels than those at the lower. Ex:goblins, baby werebears, fire vivis, ect. .

<.< yea im looking forward to having a total of 9 skills at lv 60....

this thread just reminding me that we acualy need to feel loved and needed.

if it wasnt for a guild id be a poor archer soloing in Goblin Camp....
not that this thread wasnt encuraging, and call me a pesimist(or w/e) if i want, but.....its all fun to hear something that we dont have and not getting.
by the looks of it the other classes seem to be doing fine.

all the other classes made it to lv 79, yet to see a archer(even though one will be here the other classes still advanced faster)

why? lack of grouping? or maybe it was the lack of skills and lack of the things we should have.

anyone can go. ''then just start another charater'' maybe i have...and maybe i play them, but im on my archer because that wat most of my friends and ppl i know, see me and known me to be...a archer.

simple? no. we cant make threads to make everyone feel better, then 2 days later we get a big fat REJECTED because a mage gets picked over u. yea iv been in situations when a mage lower then me gets the invite, even if iv been shouting for a party before them.

but in all....i guess, good thread. at least u took the time to type.

You're still soloing in GC? Just the thought of hanging out there for another 20 levels is enough to make me go hang out in VT while I can...
I understand our skill delemma and I wish we had any of our buffs to make us a bit more usefull but at the moment I've got nothing I can do but deal with what I have. Although I do wish the skills we have now would be more useful.. Can our 30ish damage per second poison be so overpowered that it needs such a high fail rate? Geeze..
While my guild seems to always give me somthing to do I can sympathize with missing out for a Mage. Mages always get picked over me while hunting bosses, ironically its supposed to he something we're good at. I guess we arn't needed for that either.
We have no lvl cap archers, but I doubt its because of our skill pool unless we get another huge damage attack. If a cleric can make it to lvl79 its obviously from an AoE party where mages, clerics, and fighters all play an important role. Unfortunately an archer is just the option between damage for 15 seconds or a near instant kill.
I'm well aware that making a happy optimistic thread won't take away the fact that everyone falls into a niche but us. It won't raise the damage or hit rate of our "renowned" DoT skills. It sure won't give anyone an incentive to party with a lone archer rather than solo.
But hey, it was an attempt to raise our moral. You can't get anywhere if you don't get out there and tough it out. Don't you look up to those higher leveled archers? Even you're pretty impressive, since I've met so few archers its not the same as another class.
* Another lvl5X cleric? Not like those are hard to find. A lvl60 fighter? I think there were a few in FoS. A mage? If one doesn't run past me every 6 minutes or so I probably went blind. A lvl50+ archer? I can't beleive it! That Uchiha guy just walked by and he looked so cool! I can't wait to be like him!*
I really doubt I'd have the same reaction if it wasn't such an accomplishment. So I figured I would get people motivated while things were at their worst, you can't forget that once we get upgraded it will still take a while before people see archers as anything more than we are now.

I must say you are pretty pessemistic for having such a cheerful sig, but I can understand where you're coming from.

good point, alot of archers do quit early. but im lv 59 with no itensions for lv 60 =/. with which u probaly already know of...but all i can do is play my alts and wait.
