What do I need to do or grind to get the reddish Alchemy Stones used for Material Comp/Decomp?

You can get Alchemy Stones from Nina in Elderine. She's the Item Merchant nearer the Forest of Mist gate. The cost is 50 fame for 50 Tier 1 stones. There are also Tier 2, 3, and 4 stones, each progressively more expensive.

You get fame by completing quests and earning titles (excluding weapon titles). Hit "c" to check your fame total.

If you don't want to use up your fame (at the higher levels you can use fame to buy advanced fighting skills), look around at all the player vendors to see if anyone is selling Alchemy Stones.

Maybe the cash shop will soon offer a way to buy Alchemy Stones with real money, or better yet, the cash ship will sell Alchemy skill points. Accumulating Comp/Decomp skill points is a bear.

Fame is used to by special scrolls from Nina in Elderine. You spend it like money. I'm not sure what the logic behind is, though.

"Hey I like the look of that revive scroll! I'll give you some of my reputation for it!"

Decomp/Comp are the most useless skills imo. They are good for getting ingredients for scrolls, stones, etc, but you have to use an alchemy stone. Also, I don't know if there is a Comp or Decomp skill for Summoned Beast Leather, but I haven't seen it yet and you have to use SBL for ALL (that I know of) scrolls.

They basically just told what fame is for - buying alchemy stones and certain advanced skills. The first fame-purchased advanced skill is at lvl 20, though you can do a quest instead for this one(not sure about higher ones, haven't gone that high).

Decomposition makes a few lower quality materials(mat) out of a higher quality mat. Composition is the opposite, you combine a few lower quality mat to make a higher quality mat. Note that you lose a small amount of mat, ie it could take 3 lq mat to make a regular item, and 1 reg item gives 2 lq mat.

There is on decomp. It opens up at 1000, but then requires a tier 2 Alchemy Stone. This buying with fame thing is annoying, I wish you could just buy it outright without having to worry about players ripping you off.

Fame is basically a second currency that cannot be traded or exploited. IMO, it's excellent.

Decomp skill is one of the best skills in the game, as it can change any higher tier item into many, MANY lower tier items. (For example, a Summoned Beast Leather High Quality, a single one, can make 48 SBL LQ. Multiply that by stacks of SBL HQ, and you have thousands of mats for thousands of scrolls. This is compunded higher that pretty much any t3 mat can be decomped into almost a stack of tier 1 mats EACH.)

Alchemy stones bought with fame is also excellent, as it allows me to decomp as i wish without worrying about my money, as having a 60+ character provides a near-infinite vat of fame. I can buy t3 and t4 stones with absolute impunity.

Yes indeed....
