Gathering?

When I attempt to gather some herbs/wood/mushrooms/ect. am I supposed do anything or let it go? It looks as if I'm supposed to stop on the yellow marker but I can't find any button that does such a thing. So is it possible to control this, or no?

Click the yellow line( with your mouse) when the green bar lines up with it. It is a timing thing. similar to most golf games.It instantly finishes the harvest, supposedly increases the chance of good/rarer materials.

^I tried that. It still seems that orange bar is pointless. I have gotten high quality copper ore, but that happens if it's not lined up too.
