black screen?

ok well i checked the forums and i didnt see a post like this so here goes
i downloaded SoS i can log in i can choose server i even made characters but when i choose the character it goes like its gonna go into the game but the screen stays black i can see the cursor and if i move the curser i can even see what looks like a speech bubble(bubble with ... in it) this is a new computer it has directx 10.0 and its a vista i have fiesta on it and it works fine can someone help me?

Also i turned the firewall off to see if that was it but it still did the same thing
and this is the second time ive downloaded SoS.

I'm having the same problem. Mine's a new computer too.

How do you update your drivers?

You need to update your drivers.
Go to the sticky about graphics cards and look for the link for your graphics card.

Hey all,

I downloaded the game, installed it, patched it, and the same thing happened to me (black screen). I tried updating the graphics driver for the computer and it happened to be the most current version available. Tried running the game again and nothing. Has anybody had any success with this problem?

I have the same damn problem
possible the same situation as azekah to
I re-installed, updated my Nvidia Geforce Go 6150 graphics, re-installed one more time, finally got to the character log-in, created a person then tried to log in and bam. Black screen again. "sighs.." brand new laptop to.. wow.. spent half the day trying to get this game to work. im starting to think if its worth it or not.

While I'm seeing many people with the "black screen" problem, it seems like I'm having a mixture of this and something else. My startup is a pure white screen which runs into a black screen with the server name on it, further my character select screen is white with no buttons.

In Game I'm having white boxes where my status bar, chat log, side bar and all my other things. (I.E. Inventory, Friends List, etc.)

Further, there are no boxes around NPC log boxes, and there are no buttons to click, if I randomly click below the box I'll eventually find what would be a button, but I can't see it.

From what I can tell the reason for this is that my "skins" are failing to load into the game. Why, I don't know I downloaded the game, installed it, patched it, and started it up and this is what I recieved. I submitted a ticket sometime earlier today and have not had any word on it. If anyone has any information, I'd appreciate it.

I'm running on:
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Amd Athlon XP 2500+
1.83 GHZ, 512 Mb of Ram (1 gig really)
Nvidia GeForce Fx 5200 Series

And Yes I have the newest/latest drivers for my graphics card.


Edit: My OutSpark.exe text. Not sure what that Index Error is. Ideas welcome because I'd like to play..

Edit: I'm quitting due to lack of tech support. I know the CSR's are busy but there should still be some assigned people to this thread who are capable of dealing with some of these problems. I might hang around on the forums and help in tech support where I can, but I have limited knowledge of the game and the problems in the game, much less how to solve the program bugs within the launcher, the game client and etc. I will still drop in to look and try to help, but I can't give a 100% guarantee I'll know what I'm talking about. At any rate, adieu.
