Hi folks. I'm totally new to this game, but not new to online games. In the past I always picked the wizard classes, ones that "started out weak but ended up the strongest!" Unfortunately, despite these claims, they never worked out. They'd either be weaker than everyone and stay weak, or they'd be marginally better at best. (I.e., doing 10 points more damage than a warrior, but taking ten TIMES more damage)
It's never been a fair trade off, so I can't help but be apprehensive about playing the mage class here. Do they really end up stronger, and is it worth it? Or is this game just like all the other games out there that promise strong, amazingly powerful end-game mages but fail to deliver?

I know that with WOW it depends on what abilities you use and I know that they're really only the strongest in groups as a support. Not sure about this game though (also just started today)

I do more damage than any fighter my level. Depending on how you look at it..I mean, consider this:
An axe-using fighter my level does same, maybe even a tiny bit more, damage per hit, but they don't hit near as muc has me. Solo they have the better output as they needn't kite, however in parties I am better for damage.

these people are only trying to give help from personal experience. Don't dog on them just cause you can't give helpful feedback. I haven't even started yet and there are some real jerks on here. But I'm happy to know that there are those that don't mind helping.

Hiya. Lvl 23 WizMage here. (^^) Mages are my favorite class (but that's just me). As to answer your question, mages here actually do deliver the promises made. We may be low on def and hp, but mages do a TON of damage. Mages can kill incredibly fast and efficiently, hitting hard with lots of criticals. Mages are the main damage-dealers. We are the part of the group that actually do the main killing. So, mages may have low def and hp, but mages also usually kill enemies before they reach them, so that matches up. Hope that helped. Both Mage and Archers in this game do crazy range damage and usually don't get hit much. Both lack in HP though archers dodge better, both classes give up HP for good solid Damage.

I agree with the WoW is a really bad game comment (of course I wouldn't use that....exact.... wording), but it is kind of like that, you have to purchase skills on this game, so the abilities of your character are up to you to customize and differentiate from other players. Whether your mage (I'm a mage too by the way, MAGES RULE!!!!) is good or bad depends on your perspectinve and the way you want to play.
And by the way, does anyone other than me notice that Shift+Z isn't working, and that it's nearly impossible to move an inch in the starting city???

Level 12 Mage and leveling fast. Ok heres what you do. magic missile is gonna be your speed spell and fire bolt is gonna be your power spell. Ur stats are like Int,Int,End,Spr,Int, etc etc. Lastly for combat use magic missile then fire bolt then magic missile. It also helps when you can make your own pots especially mp pots. I hope it helps
p.s. HoW Do YoU LeArN ThE StUpId Mp\Hp ScRoLls? Sorry for the language but it has been bugging me a lot =\
BTW hope this helps

SP, Yahagashi, it's SP. There are no HP/SP restore scrolls, only pots. If you're looking to make pots, go to Skill Master Ruby in Roumen and buy the pot skill from the Alchemy section.
Oh, and by the way all you mages, a good idea is to first up your intelligence, then dexterity a tad, then go full spirit for the rest of the way. Works really well for me.

Personally, I'd have to disagree with a few of the statements above. I see no reason to put END as a mage, a mage is meant for huge fast damage while having low defense. An attempt to balance the character by putting points into END will only cause you to lose damage, allowing extra hits from the mob which will cancel out any extra hp you might have gained from the END and more. I don't even know why you would put DEX in, except perhaps to increase your aim by a slight percentage, which shouldn't really be replacing damage of spells that don't tend to miss a lot. At only level 12, it's a bit difficult to tell whether INT or SPR helps more, but so far I think a full SPR mage would be for the best. As each INT point only adds 1 (1.5?) damage to each spell, when the spell is already dealing 150-200 damage, a bit extra int won't do anything. I'm not at a high enough level yet for SPR to really be increasing my amounts of crits, as it's only 3-4% higher at the moment. Higher level mobs / higher damage though, and INT will become more and more useless while SPR remains strong.

ok that last guys comment on mages is half way right. heres my opinion im a lvl 28 mage. first off dont put any points in endurance put first 5 in int for damage increase and after that put it all in spr you will love it later. use scrolls like vitality and mentality they will do wonders. and take scroll making and pots as your skills, taking elure making as a skill is cool and all but when you can buy them for 30-35c in town from a vendor mushroom its pointless to take it as a skill. once you hit lvl 20 and do your wiz mage quest where you fight yourself your gonna get a free lvl 20 wand or staff, dont be stupid and try to upgrade it because your gonna need all the cash you can get for skills and such let alone buying stones. thats my opinion on how to survive as a mage let me know what you think the good and the bad

Currently lvl 24 mage and i put most of my stats in INT at start but once i got to higher levels i mainly do a 3:1 SPR:INT. This is working for me pretty good. I get decent crit rates and deal alot of damage with non crit attacks.
