when I click into general chat I can no longer use my hot keys or move with the keys w, a, s ,and d since I'm typing the actual numbers and letters in the chat. I want to know how to get out of general chat without having to log off bacause I can't find a button or anything.

Try clicking outside of the chat box?

Yeah i*had the same problem, but then i tried other keys like TAB and click away or ESC

enter opens and closes chat bar.

As Trebori stated pressing enter again should solve the problem. Now if you are like me and annoyed by this.. there is an easy solution.
Go to the game settings
unselect "Command Prompt"
apply the settings and go along your merry way.
This way when you have pressed enter to send your chat text the box goes to its default state. IE you can once again use ASDW as well as your shortcut keys.
