Since the last thread that I post also relates to this and was talked about the most, I just wanted to hear what you guys think.
I have a few questions for all of you, feel free to answer and comment.

What does a "NOOB" or "NEWB" means?

Why do people or you use it?

Do they say it to a person jokingly(I don't know if this word exist but..) or as an insult?

Can't there be some other alternative word instead of the term "noob"?

Do you often use this term, or do you dislike it?

What is the first thing you say back to the person who happens to just awkwardly called you that?

Feel Free to express yourselves and tell me what you think:D

Noob and Newb are actually two completely different words. The lovely Suna shall tell you more in a moment!

The word "noob" has degrated to a term used whenever someone feel upset by someone else. People use it generally to describe someone who is stupid and knows nothing about the game, but nowadays it gets throw around to the point where it's disgusting. If anyone uses this around me in a serious tone I pretty much think a lot less of them. It can be used jokingly but usually just around your friends or when you're being obviously obnoxious and funny.

Newb(newbie/lowbie) just means new players, those fluffy little fresh eye'd players who are just learning how to play the game.

noob does not equal newb, it's the equivalent of a curse worded insult. (lol Squall, "lovely Suna?" XD)

What Suna says is true.

I've noticed a lot of players referring to their alternate accounts as their "noobs"; not sure where this terminology came from or why it's popular to use, as "alt" seems like a better word to use.

To answer your question, if someone called me a noob, I would just block them (unless I'm in a bad mood, then things might get ugly).

newb means new player
noob means "without skill" or horrible player.
Nub means "you should quit the game and never play again"

i try not to use those terms because i find them very childish, like a 6 yr old calling you a poopy head trying to hurt your feelings, or a your momma joke. it makes the person using the term look very bad, and since so many gamers use the term, well i guess gamers do not have much class or maturity.

i use the term newbie, because its not offensive and its shorter than saying new player.

also i would like to add this, everyone is a newbie and a noob. there are games out there that people suck at or have never played. so everyone is a newb or noob on one game or another.

I am nooblicious on the pc, but hand me a controller and put in tekken 5 and im 2000% gosu.
Gosu means pro.

I didn't think the term noob can offend people, but it's good to know that not everyone is not as thick skinned as I lol

One thing i like about this game is i never been called a noob until i was lvl 40 and that was a joke from a friend lol. Newb is really referring someone that is a new player that never played before and is new to the game.

If you are lvl 50 on a main and made a alt are you considered a newb? I don't know lol

Newbie is a slang term for a newcomer to online gaming or an Internet activity. Many newbies are being bullied by more experienced players in that particular game (although not always). It can also be used for any other activity in whose context a somewhat clueless newcomer could exist. It can have derogatory connotations, but is also often used for descriptive purposes only, without a value judgment. Not to be confused with "Noob"

Newbie and the alternate spellings are often used for one of two different meanings. Newbie is usually used to refer to a new person who has recently joined the group of bored, and is a rank default on InvisionFree forums. Several alternate spellings and occasionally the original word, are used to refer to a member who is generally unwanted or disliked in the community, and is often used as part of Trolling or Flaming.

i used to just think Newb was a cooler way of saying Noob(not that noob was ever a cool word >.>;;)

but to be honest i didnt think the word 'newb/noob' could offend anyone O.o
but maybe its the way they say it...for instance:

''lol u noob, =P dont do that'' is totaly diffrent from ''F@#%ing stupid noob, dont do that s#@%''

.__. thats how i see it at least...
