i feel as though once u lvl higher u cant get much drops from lower lvl monsters like hobs and shrooms

Yep. You get the most drops from monsters that are orange and yellow and green, and the least from monsters that are red or grey. After a while of being grey, they won't drop at all.

i'm just wondering, when you fight a lot to take down a red, why is the drop rate as low or lower then a green to orange? i can understand gray, but not red. makes no sense to me why you shuoldn't get even more drops from really hard monsters?

The reason is probably to deter you from fighting things that are way too high for you. I CAN solo blue trumpies on my 46 archer, but it is far from worth it. I could get better exp soloing harkans, and spend a lot less money, AND get far more loot. See what I'm getting at?
