Mining help!!

umm... im new at this game and im only lvl 10.... but i don't know how to mine.... i mean i have a picaxe and i found a spot... but it says that i can't...

why is this???
and can you please give me a guide on what to do??

um ok If you haven't already done so, you need to buy the mining skill from the skill master ruby in town then learn the skill, then you should be good to go!! hope this helps
