Is there any point in this game, code wise, where you cease to benefit from putting points into, for example, Endurance. my fighter doesn't seem to be improving in the area of defence when I use the points now, only 5 hp.

It doesn't show it, but your block rate will slowly go up if you keep putting points into END.
Similarly, it will slowly boost your performance if you add to other stats such as DEX and STR.

Fighters should stack up on STR, not END. Besides, the increase in DEF accumulates over time.

Actually it depends on what you want to do as a fighter which build you use. If you solo alot you need STR but if you are in a party alot you need END. A full End fighter can pull double the amount of mobs a full STR fighter can pull due to blockrate and the mobs dont hit them as hard. A full STR fighter is a damage dealer but NO tank! A full END fighter is the ULTIMATE tank in a party!
I as a cleric would rather have a full END fighter in my party then full STR they do a much better job as a tanker. They stay alive much easier which means the whole party stays alive!
If you dont believe me get 2 full partys all the same lvl with one party having an STR tank and the other with a full END tank and let them pull the same amount of mobs! Who stays alive???
Dont forget in an AOE party if the tanker is dead in most cases most if not all members of the party will die!

Well, if you are asking for info on a fighter build, here is my 2c:
Tanker (Full End)
Only go full end if you want to tank every single time you play Fiesta and every KQ you do. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't for everyone. You will also take longer to kill and will be more dependent on any DD party mates for fast kills and leveling. The only weapon you should ever use (and probably carry for the sake of space) is the 1h sword + Shield. Concentrate your skill empowerments on taunt cooldowns/SP cost, Stuns, and your favorite debuffs.
Hybrid (1:2, 1:1, or 2:1 Str:End)
I have tried this build, and can honestly advise against it. Sure, you can do either DD or Tank fairly well, but won't be as good as a specialized build; ergo spend much of your time as a 'backup tanker' or a mediocre DD. You will be good at multiple things, but not great at any one thing. It lends for versatility to be sure, but really lacks in the long run imo. If you use 1:2 or 2:1, you will lean more towards a Tanker build or DD build respectively, but still won't be as effective as a specialized build.
Damage Dealer (Pure Str or 25 Spr + Full Str)
This is really the build I advise. It allows for more versatility than the End build, and also more power than the Hybrid build. At mid to late levels, your natural End will be high enough to make you an effective tanker; and your higher damage rates will make holding aggro easier. This build coupled with an axe makes for a formidable character, but I would advise carrying a 1h around incase you have to be the main tanker for a boss character and need a def boost. Overall, this is the more popular (and better) choice, imho.
Hope that helped. As for stat points, they function differently than natural stats. Spr looses it's effectiveness after about 25 points, and Dex (which really isn't useful to begin with) runs dry at about 50, I think (heard someone else talking about it, so idk personally)
