It could be many things.
What are your system stats?
Do you scan your system for spyware and viruses regularly?
If you've not done so recently, defrag your hard drive. (I recommend this be done every 2 weeks to 1 month.

I agree with what tomcat025 said. Defrag your hard drive. There could be some old useless files interferring with the running.
also check that your anti virus software is up to date with the latest version.
If need be update your drivers as well and free some memory by removing some old problems

Try reading up on virtual memory; and figure out what is your best setting for your setup.
