Tonic for Sick Ogre quest item?

a friend contacted me in-game this morning about a drop that he/she acquired in CP, Tonic of Sick Ogre. Like most quests where quest items drop only after you activate the quest, this particular item dropped without an active quest. the item itself does mention it being a "quest start item". my friend attempted to take this item to healer avon in elderine and no quest was activated. the item, like most other quest items, cannot be traded, sold, or placed in storage. anyone else recover this item?

Is she sure she doesn't have the quest? Maybe someone in her party had the quest.

I had a similar experience with a "King Monkey's Tooth" or something like that - my only guess is that perhaps we were in a party where someone else had a quest for that item and it was on sequential?

I don't recall being in a party at the time, but I was AoE'ing the night before, so it is possible that I picked it up then - either that or perhaps during the mob/treasure event in Eldy's pvp the other night <shrug>

i don't think that's it either. i'm in my 70's (lvl wise) and i don't remember having this as a quest.

This seems to be a new item since the patch. I've spent a lot of time grinding on ogres, but after my (approx) 30th Weakened Ogre today, I got the same drop, with the same results--can't do anything with it at Avon. And for the record, I was soloing in SEG when I got it, and there was not a soul nearby.

If thats the case then, i suggest holding onto it and see if there is a quest implimented for it

for all we know it could just be an item that has slipped in with the update

Today, I picked up one of these Tonics as well, I was soloing weakened ogres, when one was dropped. No one was around me and I was not in a party. Also don't know how to start quest because, Avon didn't have a bubble. It could be a bug or it could be that since I am only level 49, that maybe have to wait until I get to level 51 which is where the quest to kill Weakened Ogres. I don't know, but can't wait to find out what the quest is and what the reward will be!!!

In addendum, I was working on the lvl 51 quest when I got it. I have since turned both the ogre quests in, and nothing changed. Avon does nothing with it.

The evidence is pointing to new quests that have yet to be implemented.

Does anyone else want to wager anything that Outspark released something early on accident, and it didn't work right? I know that's never happened before, so it'd be pretty long odds... :D

has anyone gone to each town? IE: sand hill, uruga, roumen, elderine and looked for a exclamation on any NPCs head for a quest?

I'm not sure if the quest itself is available though... the reward is your usual money, exp, and fame.

It is odd you be awarded a quest item when not on a specific quest... it is doubly odd it says "quest start item" instead of "quest item". Perhaps this is part of a new quest... one you do not get by merely talking to an NPC but one which requires this item in order to start it...

Just a speculation.

yes i had the same thing, i was doing "Myzen's Wrath" quest so i was killing ogres and got that drop. i think it might another part of the chain of quest maybe for the last part of it you need that to start it? i dunno i will keep grinding ogres to try to help u

Loveless, how do you know? I have the item, I have taken it to Avon, with no results. I clicked it, double clicked it, right clicked it--nothing happened.

You have completed the quest? If it's lvl 49 (I'm 51), why did I just get this drop? I'm just curious since there has been no information about this quest until Yesterday.

Yep, just got one of these today too, soloing weakened ogres in CP. I was wondering if I would get one and then BAM, there it was. Have not tried doing anything with it since I figure from the comments here it's just some weird... thing... idk. Keep a hold of it till it is *hopefully* needed I guess!!

I've seen 2 drop for other people, both in groups, but that doesn't make a difference. Perhaps it was added in the last patch but the relevant quest for it wasn't? Or perhaps it has a level requirement that is beyond or below your friends character. Neither of my friends who got the goblets could start the quest either.

I got the Tonic too, i took it to Avon and nothing happened. I'm level 49 too. Got it when licensing weakened ogres.

I was talking to someone who had done the quest but since it was bugged they didn't get anything for doing it. I think it would be best to hold on to this item cause I shouted in Uruga for atleast 10 minutes before someone whispered me and told me to hold onto to it.

The quest is a level 50 quest, or perhaps even lv 49. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a quest anyone can do at the moment. It's the first quest that I've seen where you can start a quest with a specific item in any MMORPG (without a prior quest) I've played to date.

Treat it as a beta quest. Don't do it yet XD

If you run out of space in your inventory... or are well past 49 just throw it away cause it's not worth a LOT.

Same thing happened to me about a week ago. SEG, but I was in a pt with my mom, BUT shes lv 41, Im lv 44, therefore we naturally thought it was for me (otherwise I would have already done the quest, if it was for her).
I tried Avon. :/ Nothing
Mom got it a couple days ago
Tried it at Avon :/ Nothing

So we threw them away.

I am a lvl 48 mage and I got it when I accidentally clicked (and was then forced to kill) one ogre. Rather odd that I am unable to do anything with it....Kind of sad....

its a quest that is available @ lv49-52.
thats when weak ogres will randomly drop that item to start the quest; w/o the item the quest is not there.

after you talk to avon, he gives you another quest that gives like 120k, for 20 of those and some herbs.

this quest has been around since i started playing and was that lv.
so far its the only quest in which a drop activated a quest.

(king donkey tooth is a lv52 repeatable you get, you dont/cant get teeth before that unless you steal someones elses. quest is @ archer aster in eldy)

the quest where u turn it in is lv49-52, if u got it before that and were soloing, and didnt steal someones drop, thats kinda wierd.

but i guess i can believe it, oos is lazy and instead of making that item only drop @ lv49-52, they just have it drop for all lvs -.-

There are alot of these quest start items, i think i've got 5+ of them on both my high lvl chars. They only work for a specific lvl though. Just spare them in inventory if you're a low lvl. Usually, it's about 3-4% free xp reward. Sometimes it's a bigger, chained quest though. (Like the Malabeautiea's Headdress quest start item u get from core guardians in BR.)

I'm surprised that nobody hasn't started selling these for x golds, since quests are a blessing at lvl 8x.

The ones i remember atm are:
Malabeauties Headdress (idk the name >.>') from cores.
Black/red/blue (some color D: ) Eye from Flame spririts.
[name] from ruby guardians.
Tonic of sick ogre from weakened ogres. :)

um, a little bit of history here: shoodoo's post is nearly 1 year after the last post. At the time this topic was started, a patch released a lot of quest start items, but the quests themselves hadn't been implemented yet. So people were getting the tonic, and no one could do anything with it. It wasn't long until the quests were released, which solved the problems. Hence why there have been no posts in this topic for 362 days. :D

I'm not sure if you got your answer, but the quest item drop tonic can drop before and even after you have the quest. If you hold on to it until you have the quest then you can initiate the quest, otherwise if it drops after you already did the quest then its useless and can simply be destroyed. I personally had tonic drop before and after I had the tonic for sick Ogre quest.

HOLD ON EVRYONE. This item is NOT new. It is a quest start item that you can only make use of during lvl 49 and possibly 50. So if you are out of that lvl range bringing it to avon wont do didly-squat. So if you are not there yet, save it. If you are past it throw it away since it's of no use to you.
