How do I mine?

I need to mine some copper for a quest but everytime I got up to the glowing blue circles on the ground it says I need the gathering skill. I already bought the skill from Ruby with the pickaxe on it and I already equiped it, and I thought that was the gathering skill. So how do I mine?

Buy the skill and use it
you need the skill and the pickaxe

When you buy the skill from ruby, look in your inventory for a purple learning scroll names the gathering skill. right click on it, and a big beam of light should sort of appear. Also make sure the pickaxe is in your inventory - hope it helps

Yeah, right after I posted this thread I found out I needed a pickaxe lol but thanks anyways!!
