Firstly, a little info:
I play Fiesta over a dial-up connection... slow, sometimes lags. It's the only connection that I can get in the area where I live. Given this, I tend not to party if I'm having troubles with lag. Secondly, I only have a few hours in the day that I can dedicate to playing, usually early morning before other people are up and around and wishing to use the phone line.
The situation being what it is, I have to try to make the most of my time in order to make money/experience. I've had some good friends help from time to time, but they are above my level, and I don't just want to string along stealing from their success. So I solo a lot, unless someone needs help with a quest, something like that.
Recently, having heard some rumors of decent drops to be had in the Abyss, I took my my archer in to hopefully harvest enough to earn money for upgrades to skills and weapons/armor. Upon arriving, I managed to hold my own against the monsters there, but some of the players who arrived afterward were a different story. Long story short, my archer gets massacred by a party of three player killers, while I'm in the process of trying to finish killing a ghost. They then proceed to laugh and take the kill, as well as the drops.
This wouldn't bother me quite as much, except for the tiny little factor - Exp drops at death. I lose 1% of my experience each time that I die, and getting jumped from behind does not help at all, even though I'd previously run from confrontation twice before, using up massive amounts of stones in order to just be left in peace. The end result is that I had far less drops than I'd anticipated, lost experience in the long run instead of gained, and barely managed to restone from the drops that I did get.
My one suggestion from this to the developers would be: Make it so that player kills do not cause experience loss. This would make PvP at least a little more attractive, and definitely cut down on the irritation factor when you get bushwhacked by a fellow player.
Anyway, just had to vent a little bit. Hope I didn't bore you all too much while doing so.
