View Full Version : Is SoS a grind or is there depth?

Just a little backstory about myself, I come from a very different MMO called EVE-Online. EVE is a spaceship game, you do the same things you do here. :) You run missions (quests) and kill pirates (monsters), get cool loot (items) and make money in the game. The galaxy I play in has lots and lots of places to go, and there are people everywhere you look.

In EVE, there is a very deep PVP system that some are shocked by, but others relish and crave. When you blow up a player's ship in EVE, they LOSE their stuff (and you get to keep it). It gives a lot of spice to the game and adds an element of excitement and often quite a bit of adrenaline to the game experience.

I've been playing SoS for a day (yes a day lol). It's pretty entertaining. It IS adorable (keke cuuute) and I am having a good time. Lots to see so far, and everything seems to have a good balance aspect to it, though some things could use a little tweaking :) Also, I see there is a PVP system in this game but I have not yet experienced it.

Anyway, my question is this: Is SoS a grind all the way? I have spent the last 24 hours squishing monsters and leveling up and I have to admit, it's been a somewhat boring process. The value of hanging with people is of course great, but you can do that in any online game. I'm wondering if there is content that is worth playing for in the late game.

Just spending hours grinding away to "level up" and not have much content beyond that has me wondering a bit what there is to this game. And don't get me wrong, I enjoy it... I just want to know if there's a reason for me to stay.

Thanks ;3

I think the best thing about this game is the friendly community. it's great, you get to know a lot of people, and have many good conversations. parties and team work is a lot of fun, you can achieve great things having a smoothly working party, tanker taking the damage, healer healing the tank, and damage dealers(mage and acher) dishing out huge amounts of dammage.

the PvP is a lot of fun in this game, though if you want to do well in PvP you will have to put in the hours to grind and get the levels.
this game is still open beta, so there will be more coming.

you build up quite a range of skills, each class has different skills and talkent. it is fun to try different tactics in PvP

unfortunatly it is fairlu much an endless grind, and only gets more so over time/levels. when 80+, 90+ etc you will get 0.02-0.03% per monster on the hard maps (they run away rom you on the other maps). it can easily take 10+ hours to gain a level, and that''s if you us real money for boosters, much longer without boosters. most of the quests are not worth the time doing, though there are some high exp quests that are worthwhile. also the occurances of quests diminish, you're lucky if there is a quest every 5 levels. so you end out spending most of your time ingame just grinding, so it might not be that attractive for people that hate the long grind

hopefully there will also be a lot more to the game soon when the other aspects of the game are implemented (open PvP, guilds etc).

We have been in open beta since December. ._.

If you wonder if the game have anything besides grinding or pvp, it's limited to sparkcash in most cases.
You can enhance stuff, help others, join a group for talking with events and stuff, or a guild in process once that feature is implemented in the game.

and probably for a lot longer if you look at all the things they plan to implement but haven't done yet

I know, tier 4 won't be until end of this year I recon, or late autumn.

What made me say that was because you for some reason said we were still in closed beta. ^_^'

Its pretty much a grind fest mew.
The game is more shallow then a kiddies wading pool mew.
The only reason I keep playing is cause of the people mew.

LOL, thanks for pointing out the error in my post, i didn't even realize what I had written, i write these posts so fast(must be remains in the unconscious mind from CB days). I was wondering why you made the open beta comment.

and Tygari, please stop with that mew, it's very annoying. Every thread you post in people ask you to stop. and you refuse to listen to anyone and keep annoying the community. Maybe you and one or two of your friends think it’s cute, but most of the community finds it annoying. BTW what is your IGN? I'd really like to meet you in the solstice survivor arena to discuss this matter personally.

You play EVE? then keep playing it, you'll waste your time with this one.

No guilds, no open PvP, buggy and incomplete quests, grind grind grind grind.... always grind. Go... leave before the very friendly community makes you wanna stay... because the community is the best thing so far in this game...

BattleAngelAlita is pretty much right on all accounts mew.
Theres alot of great people in this game right now mew.
But figure it is mostly cause the majority of online jerks haven't yet managed to flood this game yet mew.

Obviously you don't bother to read my responses mew.
I told them all I wont stop mew'ing mew.
If you don't like it tough mew.
Don't read my posts mew.
If you contact me in game I will say the same thing mew.

I stopped reading her posts...easiest way to not let something annoying bug you is to ignore it altogether :D Makes it much easier on everyone~

Well, I like a fresh experience. I got drawn away for about a month by Last Chaos (a game similar to this) and dropped about $1,000 into their "aeria points" system.

I'm trying this without dropping a grand into cash to see if the experience can be rewarding :)

Personally, I like the grind. I started playing a game that was mostly quests. Didn't like it much. D=

Yes, the grind gets boring after awhile. Just take breaks. ^^

Then you wouldn't survive my 'desu'-character in a different game, Carl. XD
Just ignore the end of the sentences if it bothers.
