I have tired to exchange my novice sword and it will not go into the cart. The weapons merchant will not recongize that i have the sword even if it is equipped or not. It will not show the weapon on my character even if it is equipped as well.

you don't "TRADE" the sword, it's a quest item, it won't go in there, Trade is used for actually equiptment used to sell or buy, not for the quests. You just "TALK" to the guy and he exchanges them and you go back to the trainer to continue. (saw about 10+ people yesterday not understanding this, I think someone needs to define more what the quest says, and change the word from Trade to shop)
