I'm not sure if I'm just extremely extremely unlucky or that I'm not getting this enhancing gig. I've broken*over*10 different items[mostly weapons] and made one item to +3, other than that one item I've probably made 2 +2 and one to +1, the rest I've just broken. -___- I've wasted so many Elrue trying and about... 20-25ish. So any tips or something? x____x I can't stand to waste any more Elures.

Simple..
Don't enchant!
Sell your Elures, and buy the enchanted weapon off some street vendor.

Basically what it is, is try, try, try, try, try then try some more eventually it does work after u have used up masses of elrue and lix and all your money. Then you get to that level u know the one I mean, the next level where you have to upgrade to a new level of equipment and you have to start all over again, but wait you can't because u used up all you stones and cash on trying to get the previous ones to a decent + status.
so far I have managed to get a club to +6 before I chickened out and stopped, don't ask how many clubs*I broke, how much elrue and lix I used or even the money it cost, I did try to work it out but my calculator broke down it just could not handle those sort of*numbers.*It also took me five levels to be able to do it to that level, which only gave me two levels of use from it before I*was ready*to get the next weapon.

I may just have to sell off all my elrues, I mean I love the feeling of getting someting to +3 (I just got one a few minutes ago! YAY! =3 Remaking a cleric) but I've seen two +9 weapons selling in Ein and I mean.. I will NEVER be able to afford that xD, I don't vend so that may be the reason why I don't have much money but they were going for 10silvers or something. o.o

The only way i've been able to get items to +3 and above since cb2 started was to use blessed and lucky stones.
I'm not sure about this but the higher lvl equipment seems to suceed less than lower lvl equipment, i could be wrong though.

Yeah, after attempting so many tries with the only outcome of items that broke and disappeared... I decided to give up ultimately on refining. I've gone completely broke trying to create elrues and whatnot since it uses materials that you'd normally sell as drops. And I've gone completely broke AGAIN trying to buy the staves/wands that I wanted to refine.
There's only a 2 out of 8 chance I believe of you succeeding. Which is a 40% chance in actually refining. Obviously, 60% of the time you're going to either fail and lose your elrue/lix/whatnot OR you completely lose the items AND your weapon/armor as well.
So when you enhance, be prepared to lose your gear/weapons. It's very likely they'll be gone after you try to refine. It's possible to get +9 weapons with a LOT of time, patience, and money.

Excuse me? First of all, when one number in a fraction is a multiple of the other, you reduce. 2/8 would equal 1/4. Second, I don't know how you get 1/4 as*40%. 1/4 is 25%.

I gave up on enhancing after my shield broke and*I had to go dig plants for money*to get another one. I've lost at least 15 to 20 items and spent mega bucks. Im sorry I even learned the skill for stones.Ive only learned to make basic stones but,*I figure that*soon nobody will want them. Oh well, at least the real game will be starting soon and I'll know better than to make stones.

I got to say this even though I don't think it's true, as*I think it is more but it should actually be 1 in 8 chances of success not 2 in 8, which makes it a 10% or*a 1/8th*chance of success. /sites/all/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif*

It's not just you, that sounds about right
Refining is like taking a sharp stick to an unprotected sensative area.
*but in a way it should be.
It should be very very hard to get the higher +'s having done so should be an accomplishment.
I do wonder if it wouldn't be better to do this through other means though.
*Maybe instead of breaking the item, return to 0 and lock that item from ever receiving beyond a +3 (make sure the item gets some kind of indicator showing this, so people don't buy it cheap off someone thinking they got a good deal).
if you failed at that point again while trying to get to +3, then it could break for real.
*This would keep your bank from breaking, still allow you to get the most basic glow; and give you a feasable weapon to either use or sell off to someone who really doesn't care about being that top end while leveling.

Or even perhaps a guaranteed + like, for a level 15 weapon it could be enchanted to +2 or something without being broken? But then again that would have BIG downfalls for later levels, so... ya that's a bad idea. xD

Hrm.. you might be kind of on to something there.
but I agree doing it exactly* like that is a horrible idea :P.
*But, I do believe that higher level requirement items should change the bell curve (if they dont' already).
What I mean by that is, a weapon that a lvl 1 fighter can use should break most of the time on fail when you try for .. say +3.* A lvl 15 weapon +4 etc.* Now, due to the large level range this stretch will have to be a very gradual one, but it should work subtly in your favor regardless.
*A green item should also have a lower break rate, I found one green bow that would have been excellent.. but the +6 bow out of Slime KQ beat it in damage by a good amount.* I was hoping to take the green to +3 or +4 and get it to be usable.. broke at +2.

I think the enhancing should be 1 in 8 chance of failing, not succeeding! and the power increase should be less per level. then everybody can have upgraded weapons but very good ones are rare. You can spend every cent you make on a weapon your only going to use for a few hours.

I think someone suggested the if it fails instead of breaking it goes down 2 enchant levels...that sounds alot better =P

Summit is onto something there...
And yea I wear my item spoiler title with sad pride
It is of my opinion to not even start refining until your more set with silvers and lvl 22+(ish)
Cuz a lvl 8 or 15 wep thats beyond +3 is a waste of refinement stones, getting to those levels with norm vendor gear is pretty much the same as having magic gear imo
But yea i too am broke and cant afford skills/gear for my 20 warrior cuz i gots greedy and started to refine..."oOOo this +4 would look sooo much cooler as a +5..*refine,break,cry* back to the begininin" :(

I have enhanced many items and broke many items. The best pattern I have found to use and only with basic plain elrue stones seems to work. Although even at that I have broken items but alot less frequent. Higher level items will break more readily than lower level items. Every time I try to use lucky elrues or blessed, something breaks....lol. The pattern I referred to is this: for Elrues place elrue in far left box first, then in top box next, again in the far left box, then in the top again and so on until you get to +3. Next, place lix in far right box, then in lower box, then far right box, and again in lower box until you reach +5. I dont know a pattern for xirs yet. AGAIN, YOU CAN STILL BREAK THE ITEM! So be prepared with money anyway or have a backup item before you start. Hope this helps.....see ya<<<<<<EVENCUT>>>>>>

heh, you have no idea how many lvl 20 bows I have completely destroyed with enhancing. I am now wreaking the consequences (And without an enhanced bow) in that I have had to buy 5 skills all at once, and the money is proving extremely difficult to get.

Up to level 20 its always best to buy about 4 staffs or whatever and upgrade one, exchange for another, upgrade that and so on.. so there will always be a staff, in this case, which has come out rather good...
And while it might be a waste to do so, i always find it cute to outstaff my lower chars with good stuff.
*Sighs* It really is a tactic for the lower levels, buying 4 lvl20+....

I swear I have the worst luck with enhancing items...
The other day I won the robo KQ, my prize? a level 2 blessed elru and an hp pot (boo no weapon) but I figure "hey, t2 blessed elrue I can take my lvl 30 hammer up to +1 lol". I felt semi safer doing this since it was blessed.... nope my luck I spin the wheel and my hammer breaks..... Really, who breaks a hammer upgrading from 0 to 1 with a blessed elrue?! oh well, there goes 17 silver down the drain....:(
