Starter guide

Stats.

Str (imps dmg), dex (imps evasion+accuracy), End (shld block, hp, defense), int (mgc dmg), spr (crit rate/spell points, mgc def).

you get one "free" pt every level to spend on the stats to have a 'custom' build.

There are four classes

fighter/archer/mage/cleric - All pretty much do what you would expect. There is a class guidance section near the bottom for builds and play information.

skills

So not going into all this.. Uh, I will say this. You can enhance your skill capabilities in your skill lists; you get one point every few levels to do this with. (no it doesn't appear to be one point every other lvl, or one pt every lvl, but you do get about 1 pt for 1/2 your levels).

Most skills can have the following enhanced : basic damage, cool down time, buff duration, and cost (in spirit points).

To actually enhance a skill, you have to select push the enhance button at the bottom of your skills menu.* This will pull up another box with the 4 possible mods.* click and "grab" the skill you want to modify, move it into the open slot at the top of the new box, and modify using the arrows located o the right of the applicable modification icon.

Enhancing a skill tends to ride a bell curve, you typically get the most bang for your buck at the first spent point (especially damage and sp costs)*. Invested points after that do less for you, typically. There are times when points you spend will continue to perform the same with seemingy no curve (frequently cool down is like this). Of note, you can play with the points you have and preview the skills changs inside of the enhance window for as long as you want. Just take away the points you have added if you decide not to spend them.

Crafting

Crafting on*fiesta *is called*production skills. To get a production skill, pull up your skills menu ([k] key). Then, select the potion/vial looking thing. At the bottom of this tab you can select "production skills".

From this menu you can*choose up to 2*production skills. You will then need to buy the pattern from the skill vendor to make anything.

note: you can not change your production skills once chosen (at least not yet)

scroll production - make scrolls. Scrolls typically provide various buffs that will last a period of time. Very handy for all classes really. More sp for casters, more crit rate, more hp, more defense.. etc.

material composistion - Take lower level materials and build higher level materials with them. This potentially is a good way to make money (alchemy stones could be a hold back), and will help with higher levels of crafting.

Material Decomposistion - opposite mat comp, break down higher items into lower.

Potion production - make pots, hp/sp restore, as well as regen potions. That is your primary use.

Stone production - make the stones used to refine all of your weapons/armor/boots/shields/helms . Refining allows you to make your equipment better, but it is also very costly in materials. There is a small chance you will succeed, and a chance that you will*break the items and accomplish nothing.

Refining

Upgrading on this game seems pretty random, it's like playing roulette.. Russian roulette: there is a chance that the item you are upgrading will break if you fail the upgrade. It seems to get hardest past +5

Refining items makes them more powerful, and makes shields and weapons shine/glow @ +3 and beyond.

for 1-3 you use the stone elrue, for 4-6 you use lix, 7-9 xir.

Blessed versions of the stones make it less likely for your item to break on a fail, lucky versions of the stone make it more likely for you to get an additional + out of the refinement (I have heard from pretty reliable sources that it is a +10% mod). Yes, that does mean that you can get a +2 off of any other type of stone (though i've only had it happen once).***

All of your items have an "item level" the basic stones are good enough for most items, but if you have an item level of 2 (as opposed to a lower #), you have to use a higher tier of stones.. Something that you probably wont have to worry about for a while. (but it'd be like a Elrue[2] as opposed to an Elru[1]).

Survival

you have hp/sp stones, as well as hp/sp potions. There are defense scrolls, power scrolls, and vit scrolls. As a tank you should always carry at least defense and vit in case you need to tank in KQ (and they make leveling go easier).

You can press the [q] key to use hp stones, and the [e] key to use sp stones. you will find this very critical, as it is a relatively cheap and necessary way to heal.

You will also want to put your potions in your quick bar at the bottom, there will be times when you will need to alternate usage between the potions and stones. For a long time (the cost is level based) stones will be cheaper to use (even if you make the pots.. I mean if you make more money to sell an item.. then it's not what it costs you to make them to use them.. it's what you could sell them for.. think people). Due to costs you'll mostly want ot stick to the stones, however there are times you will need both!! Don't neglect to have both at all times, you never know when you need them. Why rotate between the two? Well, they are both on diffrent timers, so rotation allows you to keep a "constant" flow of hp/sp.

Outside of battle you can press the [home] key to enter your mini house were you can regenerate hp/sp.

instances

Instances in this game are called kingdom quests [KQ]. To get into kq you select the hour glass near your map and find one with a time near yours. Due to the demand and the random way of entry, you have to click participate on teh KQ the instant it becomes available or you will not get a slot.

It can be a bit frustrating and annoying, but that is the way it is right now.

Once in KQ it is likely that you will have a shoddy group of people who don't know what they are doing. You have no control over who comes into the KQ your in, it is a gaurenteed pick-up-group [pug].

If you finis the KQ you will get a good amount of xp and a treasure chest. Sometimes the treasure chest is garbage, sometimes it's empty, and sometimes you get a really good item. I have some ideas of factors that may play into this, but you'll have to come up with your own ideas here cause i'm not tellin.

Tips

Don't be a slouch! If your a tank in KQ use scrolls and taunting kick to keep the mobs on you and off of your healers and dps.

If your a healer bring a full stack of SP pots and SP stones so you can keep people alive.

If your a dps use power scrolls and keep SP items handy so you can pile on the damage when the tank has the mobs attention.

Misc

You can press [f10] in game for a brief tutorial thats best redeeming factor is it's section on refining.

- If you have a lower end system, you'll mostly be alright in this game.. however, if you do you'll want to avoid GM events as the lag will be so bad you wont really be able to move. The base code isn't terribly efficent as it runs inside of the OS enviroment.

You sell items to the shop by right clicking on them while in the shop window, to sell the whole stack, hold down ctrl+right click.* Selling almost everything that drops at first is the way everyone makes money, don't be afraid to sell to another character for more than the vendor would buy it from you for.* You'll be doing the same eventually to others.

To hide other characters press shift+z

pressing z by itself will toggle walk/run*

emotes and actions are accessed w/ the [V] Key*

****************************//*******************\\***************************** ***

how to get into KQ

- Wait until 1-2 minutes before KQ recruitment starts (think slime is odd hour +2 minutes or so)..

- so. at like 3pm or something (w/e hour works.. time zones are going to throw it off), bring up the window.. Scroll to the bottom, select the appropriate KQ.. Hover mouse over participate button.

- When your bottom right window floods upward with "kings quest blah blah blah [A]" look at the time, it should change to the time indicated by the "recruitment time".

- Almost instantly after the time changed over, click participate.. cross fingers.

- One trick I used for a while is to keep a watch by the desk and set it to the second on the game time.. It helped to prepare, but be warned if you click too early you are probably SOL.

- If the KQ message pops up of "too many participants" try again next time.. 15 other people must have been faster.

- Due too the way things are.. there is a "trick" that will help you get in.. almost every time.. but.. well if you find it keep it to yourself. Hopefully the game will get fixed and it wont be an issue for long. For now it just shows us who's willing to spend a little time researching. Which typically means they are going to know how to do their jobs a little better.. Sorry folks.

Then again, if you leave a comment/suggestion and then hit me up in-game, i might tell ya.. might

class guidance

The Fighter - Allows for a few diffrent builds, a few that I can recommend would be 2h DPS/Tank/1H Hybrid.

Tank: The most important build for KQ. This is the person that takes the damage you don't want going to your dps and healers. From my experiance from other MMORPGs, there will likely be a time when you will need a few tanks to handle a small crowd of boss like figures. However, you primarilly just need one in a run. The tank's main goal is to be able to survive, hold agro and take hits. As such you will want to run a 1h sword and shield (sword n' board). Endurance increases your hit points, defense, and shield block. Dexterity evasion, and spirit your spirit points and magic defense. Obviously endurance is your most critical stat, and almost all of your points should go here. However, I will say that it will not hurt for you to put some in spirit or strength, a very minor amount. Here is the reason : Agro (holding the monsters attention) is partially built up from damage. With my archer I have pulled agro off of many tanks, some just using auto shot and spamming nature's protection.. It's not pretty. I will say what I will always say about stats (as it is customization), choose your own build! Find what works best for you, but don't lose sight of endurance, at least 2/3s of your points should be there. As for skills, taunt, stun, The damage reducer (you'll know what i'm talking about as you play, cannot think of name right now.. at work) and on occasion your AoE (to get the attention of minor mobs) are all important.
2H DPS : This is a cut and dry idea. Your goal is to get a big big weapon and pound on something. Spirit gives you crit, strength gives you damage. A little bit in endurance for soloing (and for if you steal agro) is not a bad idea. As you are leveling, make sure you do not enhance the 1h weapon skill, as you wont use it after level 20. As far as weapons go, 2h axe does the most but is slowest, 2H sword is a bit faster but does less damage. What does this mean too you? Well, the slower your weapon, the more misses cost you (both in time and damage), conversly the slower the weapon, the less the enemies defense is going to affect you. Your damage adder skill,(that thing that puts up the green circle.. sorry for lack of titles right now.. seriously i'll change this later) and your 2h damage skill are going to be critical for laying out the mobs. Stun is always good, regardless of build.
The Hybrid: The hybrid is a sword and board user with a bit more focus on damage than the tank. My personal build on this stat wise was 2 end/3 spr/1 str/.5 dex. I found that it spread me a bit thin, but i wanted the crit ratio and the mgc defense. If I did it again I would change my build to 2 end/2 spr/.5 dex (so for every 4 end/spr you get 1 dex.. why? slight bump on agility, and hit rate.. not huge.. but imop it matters a bit, and gives yo something other than shield block to help keep alive). Stepping away from all that for a minute.. stats are your choice. Please experiment.. However, I would advise you to keep some endurance, there will be times you will have to backup tank as this build, and if your any good, you'll likely MT as well until the levels where people have a bit more experiance under their belt. Skils: everything really, debuffs are great to help out the party when someone else doesn't lay them down. Stun is always good. As for enhancing, adding to the 1H power hit gives good results per-point spent. Increasing it's speed is also not a bad idea (Without having the #s in front of me I couldn't be sure, but I think max reduction basically gives you another attack with it every 30 seconds or something.. not too bad for bosses).
[/list]

The Archer : The archer's primary goal in life is to lay down damage. Not a whole lot else (I do have an idea for a pvp build, but i'd like to test that out thoroughly before I list anything). That being said, the archer is really just a dps build with some choices.

So.. how do you want to make them hurt? : Well.. you do have a few choices here. Endurance and dexterity will keep you alive (you get a +evasion bonus as an archer, which makes dex a good tool). Your damage (stat wise) is going to come from strength, or from crits (or some combination, I run 2:1 spr and str; stopped at 10 str and all spr from there.. only a few regrets.. make your own choices). You have two choices of weapons (once you hit level 20 {hawk archer}), the crossbow or the bow. Of the two, the crossbow is 3/10s of a second slower, does more damage and has 2% more crit (though I have found a green bow with only a 1% crit difference). The bow's primary advantage is it's speed. I personally will be trying out a diffrent build in OB revolving around the xbow, but I will say that with the bow I already have to tone my damage down a lot of times to keep from pulling agro off of tanks. How much damage is too much? Depending on your build you might find out. Skills: As an archer you seemingly only have 2 skill types (well, kind of 3, but..). You have a few skill's (shots) that add damage to your basic shot. That is all they do, their damage enhances quite nicely. Your second skill type add's damage over time (DOTs) to the mobs. These are handy for long fights, very nice for bosses. DPS adders.. plain and simple. The "3rd" skill you have is nature's protection. It is a life saver, but only if you don't go crazy. The skill lowers the amount of agro you currently have on you. Great tool for parties, but don't depend on it.
Tips for soloing: Attack at your maximum range, know the range of your shots so you don't move forward when you are fighting. You want to have the mob dead or mostly there before it reaches you (unless your a dex build). The [home] key puts you in your house to regen, why do I bring this up, because it is your friend. Do you really want to pull a mob and let it beat on you when your skill timers are still colling? No, not unless the mobs are very soft. Kill a mob, find your next target, use the cool down time to spend a few seconds in your house (one tic or so).. get that extra sp/hp and kill the next mob.. wash/rinse/repeat. It's a bit laborous, but it will extend your overall time in between your "big" rest periods.
[/list]

The Cleric: As my cleric has not seen much use (I've leveld so many healers to max level on other rpgs, I really wanted to take a break from them) I do not feel all that qualified to explain much here, but i'll provide what I have noticed.

what? I can fight?: Yes, and not in the typical damage spell fashion either. Fiesta's clerics are modled much closer to the old D&D traditional style. These melee casters can wear a decent amount of armor, pack a mace and a shield. Cool eh? Well, kind of... Yes you can fight, it's nice solo. However, keep in mind an mmorpg has a lot to do with running in a party, and despite whatever delusions of grandeur you may have.. your primary goal in life is to keep others alive, and raise them when they go down. So.. Stats.. do as you will, but know that your spirit pool is other peoples lives. Same goes for how you spend points on your skills. Soloing a cleric is pretty easy, you get to smash your foes with a mace, and if your low on hp you can drop a quick heal on yourself. You get nice defensive buffs.. Really not much to complain about.. but when your at a boss in an instance, or a pinch situation you are a healer.. first and fore-most.. and if your not sure if a mob has an AoE or not.. Don't go anywhere near it, yeah.. That means all those points you spent making your melee skills leet become useless. If you go down it could mean a party whipe. Get used to it.

[/list]

The Mage: Again, I have not leveled my mage a whole lot. All I can provide here is what i've seen, my experiance with past games, and what i have read. Stats: I have heard/read that magic damage mod from int is broken. Other mages swear by it. I believe that the reason people believe it is broken is that adding magic damage probably does not increase the damage that shows up on your character screen. I personally want to test this before i decide myself (I was planning on using the mage to do just that.. maybe someday). So, depending how you take that it may or may not take int out of your consideratioin. Your other two stats of concern are spirit (for sp pool and crits) as well as endurance (your paper enough, no reason not to bullk up a bit). As far as skills go the only thing I can really tell you is that for efficiency you should really stick with low magic missile as opposed to going to the slower delay ones. A mage lives and breathes through his spirit pool, unlike an archer you cannot just sit back and autofire. Magic missile is very cheap sp wise, but it still costs.. So keep an eye on your stuff, keep stones handy, and come prepared with an int scroll for bosses in the harder kqs.

********************************.//*********\\*********************************

So.. how do I hold agro?

As a warrior there are times you will likely have to tank, regardless of build or prefrence.* You simply may be the best choice for the job.

As such, it is important for you to know how to hold the attention of the boss/monster you are facing.

There are a few things to keep in mind here.*

1) Agro is generated by damage

2) Agro is generated by healing

3) Agro is generated by taunts.

So, you cannot heal (without using items, which I have no evidence of that coming into play in this mmorpg), leaving damage and taunts.* I hope you have sp stones!* Every time you can possibly use taunting kick do so, every time it comes up.* Not when the mob tries to run away from you.. Every time.* Doing so will build agro.* Also, throw damage skills at the mob as quick as you can to keep your damage up.* Chances are there is a DPS char in your party pouring it out, and if you don't, they may die.

If you have another warrior beating on the mob, and can do so, convince them to keep the debuffs up on the mob.* Debuffs can be resisted, and you can feel free to throw yours on as well.* However, as much sp as you'll be pouring out, it is nice when someone else helps with the debuffs.

Well, what do I do if I have to hold agro of more than one target?

You can only do so much here..* You can get some of their attention (at higher levels) by using your AoE attack; concentrate damage and your taunts on one; only AoE the others.* To keep damage down, you can stun the "off" mob when possible (or whichever is going to do the most damage, keep in mind iif the one that would do the most is likely to resist, your probably better off dumping it on the other anyway.).*

Hopefully your dps are smart enough not to attack the target you are focusing on.* If they are not, they need to learn.

And i'm supposed to survive this?

Absolutely!* It may be advisable for you to carry some endurance or hp boosting equipment to throw on (if your not allready normally wearing it) for when put in a tank situation.* A vit scroll for bosses is pretty much a must (unless you are within the highest possible levels for the KQ.. depending on build and gear*you may not need it then).

Also, you should have a cleric in your party with defensive party buffs up.* Don't be too dependant on any cleric, no one is perfect, and even if they were no one can anticipate what will happen.* Meaning?* have potions and heal stones, and use them if you think you have too.

********************************//*************\\******************************

I had some other things to say.. but they've slipped my mind.

I am doing a lot of this at work, and as such it is rough-shod and on the fly. Feel free to come to me about corrections, or if you want further issues. However, if the issue is grammar or spelling related and does not impede understanding of the subject then don't come moaning to me. Doing so is silly, immature, and inconsequential.

If you have any questions once you get in the game, send a whisper to Vice.. if i'm around I might be willing to provide some info.

Nice post Bledcyan! Well thought out and informative.

This needs to be stickied IMO*

This is a good guide.

You should add it to the wiki.

Label it 'Bledcyan's Beginner's Guide' or something ;]

Awesome job~!

It'll definitely help a lot of people out from when they first start out.

I'm a bit of a spelling/grammar police person so would it be ok if I searched through and polished several things for you?

And as for mages, I think it'd be a little to early actually make a guide for their builds until Fiesta hits Open Beta. Like you've stated, INT is a bit messed up, and a lot of people are disputing still over which stats reign supreme and those that are not needed at all. ;D

*Though I might level up with a friend of mine (occasionally, when we*can get on together)*when the game goes gold.

Currently playing a more adult orientated game.. with an instance system that will let me play with my friends as opposed to being luck-of-the-draw.

Hmmm add some more about the mage class i can help you a bit with that and illl share what ive found out by using it.

The mage class is the most physcally weakest and in close combat will soon be overwhelmed, but what is so strong about them is that they can defeat an enemy before it gets close, making it very powerful against enemys of its own level just dont go against any harder ones cause you wont stand a chance. One thing i do find is that mage tends to be a more expensive class due to the amount of spell scolls you buy and an always constant need for cyrstals and pots. Due to this what tends to happen is there are plenty of low level mages but higher mages are harder to come by. Also if your gonna cover the level 20 quest youll find its most difficult with magesdue to their weak defence.

Hope that helped
