This glitch happened to me after I died in Luminous Stone 1 and respawned in Elderine.
My character is about 10-20 meters above the ground as well.

After exiting the game and returning to the game everything was fine so it was a one time glitch.
OS: Windows XP Pro (5.1, Build 2600)
Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 896MB RAM (1024MB with 128MB shared with video card)
Video Card: ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series
