the GM's said that they're actually working on a gifting system... so who knows? One day we may be able to gift our friends =) Right now the only way to do so is to know their password and surprise them lol

Unless you trust your friends with your paypal account details (Which I do NOT reccommend) then no.
But yeah a gift system is on its way apparantly.
