ok, this is going to be a rant... just so you know... read ahead at your own risk, and if you dont like what you read, I could care less...

I was in Velcro Forest today, AOEing, and over the last few days, I noticed that more and more people have come in, competing for the mobs on the map. It's a fine place to AOE, and I can understand how it is highly contested.

Well, its not the fact that the map is highly contested that bothers me, its the utter disregard for the people that were there AOEing in the first place. Why is it that so few people come onto maps, and yell anymore, like "Is there someone AOEing here." An exchange takes place between the players, an agreement is reached, etc etc. But instead, I have noticed players coming onto various maps, and just start mobbing, not bothering with the people that are already in process. I have seen up to 4 people on that map, and when asked to let us finish a few runs, or to join us, I have been met with some hostility, and the usual "we arent leaving, you dont own the map, so deal with it."

or my personal favorite "I've been coming here for weeks." (I actually laugh when I hear that one)

I try to believe that we can have respect in leveling as players, to respect those on a map, and to help others. But over the last two days, I have lost quite a bit of respect for various players over disagreements over "the map is mine, no the map is mine" disputes and so forth.

I am sick of the lack of respect that AOE-ers have for each other. I first thought I was being a pessimist, and judging people on the actions of the few. But after what I have witnessed over the last few days, with BLATANT and often vulgar language thrown at me and my party, I have resigned to the fact that this is a common problem, since it has occured in almost every instance.

I'm saddened by seeing this new aspect of our community, and extremely frustrated...

*hangs head* come on, I thought we were all better than this...

i'm sorry I did that once to you, but since then, I have been shouting in the map first to show respect. I think that if someone "invites" themself in to a map that you are already aoe-ing in, and you ask them to show respect for having been there first, the least they could do is hold back the vulgarity -_-;

Having been here for almost two months and, compared to you, Im a relative n00b and while I agree with you that kindness and respect are excellent virtues, I am finding that this place has ebbs and tides like any other community. Ive been mobbed over and ks'd more times than I can count recently (theres a few people out there whos whole MO is to ks, and Ive noticed them a lot in the past few days alone).

Its very cool that you posted something about "bad social behavior and etiquette" amongst players but its kind of like those cities and towns that have "Neighborhood Crime Watch" signs all over the place: Like thats really gonna keep the bad guys away..............

Its just what it is: as the community grows, so does the number of jerks...but you'll be happy to know that there are guys like me who are showing up in the game that try to be as respectful as possible to other players

its difficult , especially for me, to explain how i feel about this matter.

Players have indeed lost respect because to them its just another video game they can do whatever they want on. Some are curtious as to yell white eggs but at the same time do you, EVERY time white egg your killing? (you know i love you buddy Q__Q)

I hold nothing against AOErs or mobbers. UGH this is so hard to explain! i understand your point completely, lack of respect but...^^; if someone walks onto the map that your AOE and they start mobbing you cant just ask them to leave (i know you said you wanted to do some more AOE there then youd leave or something like that) Mobbers and AOErs have the same right to be on a map.

To the AOErs: Ive tried AOE before and its a very hard thing to do. I have more respect for you guys putting your life in danger pulling an entire map of hard hitters (especially alone without a healer) it takes great skill and patience to AOE, something i could never do ill tell ya that much. But even so you have to learn to share the map your on. Whats a few mobs while AOE your pulling the entire map arent you? ^^ lets keep this game fun shall we?

To the Mobbers: You guys have guts! I kind of mob because of my class its difficult. You go out and tank one after the other, constant and nonstop! It takes courage and perserverance to do what you do! But ya still gotta let the AOErs have their space. Its true they dont own the map but you guys have to learn to share as well. You will get your AOE too one day and you will know how it feels

lets show the love and respect PEACE!!

I disagree with you.

Everyone has the same rights as everyone else in this game. Someone shouldn't have the right to hog an entire map for the day simply because they were there first. Not, unless, there was some sort of time limit. Say, you get the map for an hour, then you have to leave.

Velcro is popular because it's just about the only place for the 73 till 80 lvl crowd. What outspark needs to do is give us more maps like that. xD Why aren't we complaining about that? That, at least, is something we can do something (or try to, at least) about. Maybe make them take an argo away from Sennin, to give us some options.

I gotta agree with you again Toru! Man we are on a roll lol

I already explained why I don't white egg in another thread. I will say about velcro if I see more than 2 people in the map pulling then I leave for a while. When I return and someone has been there damn near all day be prepared to have me come in and take some of that map. Hoggin aint cool with me. Share the map, stop being greedy and have fun. If your not willing to do that then im not willing to share with you.

I also agree there needs to be more balance in the exp not the maps. The exp is so unbalanced that we are forced to all go to particular maps just to make a little exp a day. Fix the exp as a whole. Sorry but the exp you get from a monster should go up the higher in a map you go. How does one get .04 from Rud and .04 from Edine??? You would think the exp would be higher

I think notFire is damn right. Its not good if you are AOEing on a map and after 2 hours there are 2 knights and 1 templar and they mob the whole map before they kill. Its not nice to other players, because they take so long to mob the whole map and kill them :(

But no one owns a map. It isn't fair to everyone else. The BS excuse of "well, there are more maps" just don't wash, because (taking the example of Velcro), there aren't more maps of that lvl.

If you've had a map for TWO HOURS by yourself or party, why can't YOU share? Why do you have to be so greedy? I know that sounds harsh and I'm sorry for the tone, but I feel strongly on the subject.

dude thats sad i guess. You need to suck it up though pal. Me to you. I mean theres thousands of people playing this game all the time right? yep, so the odds that your gonna have ANY maps to yourself especially with more and more people getting their AOE, are gonna drop substantially. The rudeness you spoke of is lame yes, but if some one wants to play on a map you are on theres really nothing you can do about it. Everyone feels that THEIR needs are most important, and theres a real lack of empathy among all these n00bs. Doesnt make it right, but at the same time theres no reason to rant about it, you know what to do-
Vulgar language? Report to Rider.
Ksing? report to rider.
repeated offenses? probably not if you screenie it and report. Especially of all people if you were reporting some one I bet it would get taken seriously.
Aside from that theres a real lack of balance between AOE's and Non. i mean what with the one dangerous mob, and all the people NOT AOEing, i agree that they need some pure AOE maps, and i wasnt trying to be an A-hole in the beginning of my post, but you know all these things, and you still let it get to you. Hang in there buddy. Keep being yourself and doing your thing, people will come around or they won't, if they harrass you then you know the right move to make, and even if you didnt say any names here, it still could be solved pretty swiftly by reporting it, instead of posting a rant about it.

The thing with AoE'ing is that the maps are just going to get more and more crowded as more and more people reach AoE'ing levels for a limited number of maps, and we're going to keep having problems like this since many people are going to be selfish about their xp, or possessive about a map, or stubborn about other AoE'rs.
The simple solution, of course, is for Outspark to tweak with the XP and release more maps...however, I suspect that SoTS is both understaffed and growing a lot more rapidly than expected (that's just my impression based on the fact that there's only 1 fully active admin and 1 fully active GM). So until someone in Outspark actually realizes that these new things are gong to take a while...
Rushing and flaming Outspark, though, isn't going to help; all that's going to happen are more buggy releases and features. What we CAN do, though, is make do, and find ways around these problems while *politely* encouraging Outspark to work more efficiently. For example: if there's two or more AoE'rs on a map, party up! That way they can drag more, faster, kill faster, spend less pots per kill, which would make up easily for the less xp per kill. It might take some working out but I bet a party of 4 AoE'rs would get as much xp in 10 minutes as a single AoE'r...if not more because they can repot less often.
Simply put, let's all show some patience and tolerance guys ^^ It seems like something that's been lacking a lot lately.
Just my 2 cents >.>

Instanced dungeons will solve this problem. That is, if the developers will ever implement them. =p

Gosh, has this issue ben touched upon before? I can't seem to recall clearly if it has...
Fire, you hit the nail on the head. People should use a white egg to, upon arrival in a map, ask whether or not someone is there. Then, after establishing ground level courtesy, if the party desiring aoe should not wish to leave for another map, then an agreement ought to be reached between anyone currently aoeing and the new party, so as to make things run smoother. (Talking in circles here?)

As an avid aoe'er, I make it my best efforts to apply this way of thinking anywhere I want to go aoe (though my choices are few and far between, given my current level...) and let me say this:

If you are greedy, or selfish, or in anyway unable to cooperate with your fellow players in deciding how to better effectuate a measure of politeness while grinding, THEN GET LOST! There are too many people still here who actually give a damn about what the repercussions would be of having a petty argument about aoe as opposed to those who don't, so suck it up, or ship it on home!

We could all learn a thing or two here.
