View Full Version : Wondering What Class To Be? Look Here! -Mini Guide to Class Selection-

CrimsonRain

Well, here is a quick mini guide to selecting a class, just a short description and at the end my opinion, hopefully this helps cut down on the "I'm new what class should I be" threads, just remember, what class you should be is your own preference and playing style, here I've made a list with short descriptions from each class to hopefully help you decide what you would like to be:

Fighter: You can either tank with a sword and shield, or be a damage dealer with an axe, fighters are the most durable class against physical damage, yet the weakest against magic damage, and with good gear and a nice build they can do massive amounts of damage with an axe; fighters can stun and use debuffs, they can also kick to pull agro, as well as mock, which is like an AoE kick, to pull agro as well, for more information you should read through or post on the Fighter's Forums here (http://www.outspark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28).

Cleric: Clerics are the healing class, they have party buffs as well as self buffs, they can revive, heal, restore health over time, cure poison/disease/bleeding, but they are the weakest class, don't get me wrong though, they are still decent in the damage/defense departments, well depending on your build and gear at least, with good gear you can outdamage a lot of people, I've outdamaged same level fighters, sometimes even higher level fighters, and have had more defense than them, it just all depends on your gear and usually build, you can read more on the Cleric's forums here (http://www.outspark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29).

Archer: Archer's are good for single target/boss fights and with the right build and skill empowerments are good with AoE (area of effect) skills. They can use damage over time spells such as poison, bleed, and disease, they also have good dexterity so they have more evasion and aim than other classes meaning they dodge/hit more often. They are, in my honest opinion, currently broken, Outspark is promising changes to fix them, yet they are still fun, and who knows, when they are fixed maybe they will be great again, so if you think this class sounds fun, play it! When they are fixed you will have a decent level and then guess what, you can have fun with the fixed archers, this class does have good dexterity, but not the greatest defense, buying +end greens will help you out with that, you can read more here (http://www.outspark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30).

Mage: Mages are the damage dealer class of this game, they do high burst damage and are the best AoE damagers at level 60+, they generally can kill same level mobs before they get to them, and at higher levels they get fear, which freezes the opponent and makes it so they can do absolutely nothing, they also get dispel which can remove curses and debuffs, also another note, they have the highest damage output, but the lowest defense and HP, therefore you can't take much of a hit, if you are playing this class you are better off if you can afford good +end/+dex green items, you can read more if your interested here (http://www.outspark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=31).

Those are the four classes, in my opinion though, if you want to be mage/archer you should start with a cleric to make some money so you can buy some decent +end/dex greens for them as i said above, cleric's are the money makers in this game pretty much so if you would like to be mage/archer than I would suggest building up some money on a cleric first so you can buy those greens, if you plan to be a fighter or a cleric, then go right ahead, cleric you will have enough money for everything, fighter.. not AS costly as mages/archers, but if you would like to make money on a cleric before you start fighter you can do so.

Any comments/suggestions to this are appreciated, I will change things as suggested if I see fit and agree with the points. :)

The purpose of me making this is to help out new players and hopefully lower some of the threads asking for help picking classes, please do not flame/disrespect on this thread. That is NOT appreciated :(

If you have any further questions feel free to PM me or ask about it in a post, I'll be answer things to the best of my ability. xD

I hope this helps,
Turan~

+end/+Dex -- on green items there is something stats that add extra points to your base stat, +end/+dex simply means that you should get green gear that ad points to endurance and dexterity if you can, and yeah clerics can be tanks, but fighters will always be better if they know how to play correctly, they have moves that keep mobs on them, and better defense/hp if geared the same as the cleric, and clerics, well, they can do some damage, but if the two classes with equal skill and gear went, clerics would do less damage still. And why can't you download Direct X 9.0? I'm pretty sure you can get it through microsoft update, if you can't figure it out ask, I can link you

And thanks for the support Cherushi I appreciate it ^^ maybe it will get stickied, who knows, i just hope it helps out xP

I have found out as mentioned that with the right set up a cleric can actually "TANK" as well as a fighter I know this from experience with my 30th lvl cleric. Its fun to read what others say when a cleric tanks. LOL

CrimsonRain
06-16-2008, 07:07 PM
of course clerics can tank as well as a fighter, most fighters dont kick/mock anymore for some odd reason, and yeah, clerics have the second highest defense in the game, and can hold agro with thier heal, they can tank, but fighters with equal skill and equipment oppurtunities will always be better

not that detailed, u pretty much took everything outspark put on their website and rewrote it. here's a summary of my classes:

Fighter: highest def, high dmg. the perfect class at higher levels.
Cleric: alrite class. very cheap since u never need hp stones. most ppl get bored at high lvls cuz all u do is heal and have horrible dmg. theyre fun until lvl 60.
Archer: not even considered a class. Their dmg is bad, their def is bad. Until they get fixed no one should play then unless u plan to solo teh whole game.
Mage: teh best class at lvl 60+. until then u pretty much cant solo cuz very low def and hp.

Lol, ur singing a love ballad to fighters then..... And we're an "alrigt" class? in the last KQ i did, i had more hp + more dmg + more def than the tank... Yet i was laughed at when i suggested i tank.

*sigh* I didn't even look at the guide that outspark wrote once, all the information came from my personal experience/knowledge with and of each class, and it's not supposed to be "detailed" (note the title says *MINI* guide) it's supposed to be something you can look at to try and tell which class sounds the funnest to you, and anyways, your summary of the classes is VERY biased based on what you play, making your class sound the best, I wouldn't even consider yours a valid summary, fighters do NOT have the highest defense and damage at the same time, if fighter go more damage, clerics have higher defense, if they go more defense, then even clerics not to mention archers and mages have higher damage, and between an equally geared mage and fighter, mages do far more damage. Anyways, don't accuse me for plagiarizing outspark's guide, I never looked at it once, and it doesn't have every tiny detail because it is supposed to be a quick guide to look at to choose your class, with my opinion at the end on gear/starting out.

P.S. Thanks for the rep those who repped me, and all the comments, I appreciate it, also if anyone needs help or has questions asked feel free to post here or pm me and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. Also, if your on Apoline and need help, whisper Turuk and I can try to help you out, I'll maybe be afk in a shop though, but I'll whisper you back when I get back, and if your in Apoline and need a helpful/friendly guild, look at my signature and click the link and sign up for it ^^

I like the fighter and mage classes. The fighters do the most damage and have the most def. Its fun to take the damage and get healed XD.I also like to look at the monsters while i kill them. I also like a mage class cuz they do the most damage. It fun just killing the monsters b4 they get the chance to attack me. I dont use a lot oh hp pots or stones cuz i have full int and they cant get to me cuz like i said i kill them b4 they get to me. And also the mage armor is cheeper than the other classes, but the fighter armor is the most expencive armor.I hope some1 trys these classes and if you do for the mage pull int or spr, int is more magic damage and spr gets you mage sp. For a fighter you should do end or str, if you have end you have more hp and def usualy you would tank, str gives you more damage. On my mage I did full int and on my fighter full end, My characters are pretty thogh for there levels. level 41 fighter, and level 22 allmost 23 mage, both are on apoline pm me if you want help leveling

Thanks a lot for the comments and such, I appreciate it, it's not really long or anything, just something for new players to read over to help them determine their class you know? I'm glad it's helpful, main goal of this was to help cut down on the "What class should I pick?" type of threads.

Thanks,

Ok this has helped. I think I'm going to be a mage or cleric on my next one.i already have a lvl 10 fighter and a lvl 11 mage but I don't want to be an archer and I don't want to be a fighter again cuz I lost interest with fiesta because of the fighter I had...
So which one do you ppl think I should choose?

1: they can heal themselves and others.
2.They have the highest def
3.They are one of the two classes that can get shields early in the game.
10:The males look awesome!! (DID I JUST WRITE THAT OUT LOUD>>>?)

Theyre not my favourite but they are kinda kool.

In my opinion, you might want to be a cleric to make money at first, then switch to whatever class you want so you have enough money to fund that class, or stay cleric if you find that you like it, and if you play up to level 47 it seems to get a little funner with your new buff for some reason ^^

I find clerics very expensive. I spent at least 200s when my cleric hit lvl 40, but I love my cleric no matter what ^^ i love healing people when Im taking a break from my archer. :D

Quests and aoe parties with mage/cleric in abyss where u tank/mock to keep them on you and mage does most of the killing with aoe, cleric keeping party alive obviously.

Also when u hit 50 SAVE SOME QUESTS, mainly do repeat quests if u can, then at 59 when everyone else has none left and spends days trying to level on mobs u do it in a couple hours with quests. Levelling in abyss is easier at levels below 59 as the exp is worse at 59...

That's true Spankle, and MiseryBuisness, clerics are the best to start out with, you only need money for your gear, if you fight and heal yourself you never need to stone, just rest off the sp, and even with the occasional stone you make more than you lose when you sell the drops you get.

Basically, if you're a supporting cleric.. You not really will be able to save money as u need money for gears, you need lots of sp stone, and if you're playing in party, you will need hp stone (which is super expensive for cleric) as you won't have the time to heal urself when u're busy healing ur aoe-ing team mate. Of course if you're just playing at the beginning levels like lvl 1 to lvl 20, you won't face this situation yet.

At the same time, cleric has to level up their skill (everyone of it) for better buff, better heal, better everything as compare to mage (only need lvl 1 skill) at beginning levels.

So basically, i don't think cleric is a "faster" money earning class. But yeah, at beginning stage, cleric is a good starting points as with heal on urself, you only need some sp stone to heal urself (in addition that you're the 2nd highest phy def class in game). But keep in mind also, u kill much slower, than a mage ^^

Oh ya, and also.. i think all class are able to earn more than spend.. with all the questing and drops ^^

*just some personal view* :p

CrimsonRain
09-18-2008, 08:42 AM
Well, what I was trying to say is clerics are the class with the most potential to not spend any money on stones/pots, they have the potential to solo and kill things and just rest off the sp, but like any other class they have to buy skills and gear, which is why i ignored that part of it.

This is my point of view on this!!!

I think Fighters are the most with all END builds. I also think they are best that way.

I think Mages are the most with pure INT builds. I also think they are the best that way.

I think Clerics are the most fun with any build.Clerics in my opinion r the most fun class.

I think Archers are the most fun with any build. I also think they are fun in kq and solon.

YES I KNOW THERE ARE MISSPELLS THAT IS SO I COULD FIT THEM ON 1 LINE.It looks cool THAT WAY.
