View Full Version : GM messages - suggestions

When playing the game I noticed that the GM messages were not the best.* So, what exactly does that mean??* Well, there are a few things that it means.

Some of the messages were not displayed very long.

Only 1 message would be displayed on a single line.

Alot of spelling mistakes as it appeared that the GM was in a hurry to type. (not a big deal but not very professional)

The suggestions that I would make would be to enhance the GM message window so that the GM would have a better interface for leaving messages.

For example:* At the end of Closed Beta 2 the messages that the GM posted stating that this was the end of CB2, the messages were infrequent and not always the same. In this case your GM message interface should be able to take a command like:

** message "The CB2 phase is ending tonight at midnight. Thx for the testing!!" -times_to_repeat 20 -delay_in_seconds 300

This would post the message, wait 300 seconds (5 mins), then repeat the message again (this would continue for 20 iterations, basically 1 hour).* This would allow the GM to be able to run 1 command and have the message repeated in regular intervals for 1 hour.* (of course, a later improvement would be to have the functionality of killing repeating messages if wanted as well).

Another example would be to allow the GM to post multiple messages from 1 command:

** message "The small Dragon event at Roumen has completed" "Thanks for your effort in defeating this evil creature" "and saving the city." -delay_in_seconds 15

*This would post the first quoted string, wait 15 seconds, post the next quoted string ... etc.* Again, this makes administration easier for the GM and gives the professional feel to the players.

There are many more suggestions that can be made (as with any feature request) but my strongest concern is the lack of GM message space.* GM messages are VERY important and from what I have seen (correct me if I am wrong), but currently, once the GM message passes you can't get it back.

My suggestion here is that you have up to 3 GM message lines that scroll.* That way you can see:

The small Dragon event at Roumen has completed.**************************************** **************************** Thanks for defeating this evil creature * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** and saving the city!*

Also, when a user logs in they get the GM messages that were sent in the last 5 mins (or so).

Don't want to leave too much here, but hopefully you get the idea of where I am heading.*

Thanks for listening,

Olias*
