I'm currently have a project to do on Online game and teens. I have gotten a part in a group where I have to get a poll about why we play online game, so I hope you guys could help me out.
Please answer the poll and one question: Do you think online games have a big impact on us, the teenagers?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, online games do have a big impact on us. If it didn't, you wouldn't see so many different online games. Besides, if there were no online games, you'd see a lot less people on the internet.

(I'm assuming you don't just mean mmorpg games.)

I never played an MMO before this, and I'm hooked. I'm hooked and I can't pinpoint why, because there are so many factors involved: the people I meet, the conversations I have every day, the thrill from fighting mobs that really challenge your gameplay, the environments and aesthetics of this game also make me want to play.

For teens... hmm... well not all teens are that hooked on the internet. But When the internet is a decent portion of your life, and you come accross something like this, an MMO, it can become obsession. There are other online games out there that don't have the social aspect to them, so teens can get bored easily and flip-flop between games without much care. Playing an MMO is very different due to the reasons I stated above, and it's just so social teens form real bonds with people and it goes from virtual reality to absolute reality. This can easily become their new life.

Definitely the thrill of teamwork...Kingdom quests are great for me. Bunch of people who probably don't know each other, could be on separate ends of the globe, working to obtain the final goal, it's awesome.

I like being the backbone of the parties (clerics) and keeping everyone alive. Though I have chosen to solo in Fiesta because it's a new challenge for me.

Well online games definitely have impact to the teenagers, except those who don't enjoy them at all. Online games are one of the things that changed the world. It's one of the greatest entertainments since you can somehow get into it without knowing it nor paying much attention to anything else like how long you play.

Games are mostly a good thing, but it can be very bad if you're WAYYYYY into it. They are very enjoying and one of the best "time-killer". You can just play for 3 hours and you only feel like you've been playing for 1 hour. Some people play for an extremely long time, and I'm talking like 12 hours straight playing. It can seriously hurt them. I'm pretty sure there are some news about the danger of games. Some people starts to sit on the computer for a long time without exercising enough. Probably the worst news I've ever seen about extreme gaming is that a husband and wife both got into a MMORPG so much that they ignored their 2 children, both babies. They had starved and dehydrated for hours, almost to death. They got saved, but were separated from mom and dad afterward.

I'm a little past my teen years, but I hope my answer still counts.

I selected "Other" from the options, so I'll specify here:
I got into online gaming through First Person Shooters (FPS) games. I was a Quake III addict, and I did the clans, the online tournaments, everything. I even got a special mic headset for the game.
After that I realized that MMORPG's or at least RPG's with an online aspect had much more depth to them, you could experience more, and socialize, which are two very important factors. I played Diablo II and it was much more of a blast online - trading, clans (again), and the player versus player aspect. I find MMORPG's to have a much wider playing field, meaning they encompass a lot more, since they have to draw a large audience. So they often include much more content, or a larger array of content.

Do you think online games have a big impact on us, the teenagers?

Online games themselves? No - the games themselves don't have that large an impact. The technology, community, and platform they run on do. World of Warcraft, for instance, was the first truly marketable MMORPG to hit shelves, it brought more players who were already using the internet into a community of like minded persons.

The internet is the impact, the games are the medium. The games are the portal through which people of similar interests, and hobbies, are able to meet without any social repurcusions: such as humiliation. At school, you can't choose to leave a class and join another, in an online game you can simply find new friends.

Think of the reason why. One, you are connecting people thousands of miles away to each other. And two, people are no longer worried about looks, clothes, mannerisms, or actions. They can mask everything with an online avatar, they can be whomever, or whatever they choose. And no one is the wiser.

My parents have custody of my sisters kids. They cannot afford babysitting, so they need me at home to watch the kids. I don't know anyone here(I recently moved here), its a small town with nothing to do, so I don't have much to do, so... I play.

The diversity among players is what makes online games the most fun for me.

No new post yet. I'll just add a bit more stuff about online gaming... ^_^

GOODIE-Good-GOOD: :)  :D ;)
Once the game evolved into Multi-Player Online Game (MMOG for short), games become even more popular. The ideas of meeting new people, interacting with each other, and playing together (and teamwork) keep people interested for a very long time. Maybe because playing with themselves are sometimes boring with no interaction with anyone, especially for people who play on their own. Also, it is more challenging if people play against other people (PvP). Human's intelligence is more complex and unpredictable than computer's artificial intelligence which is why it's more challenging. Challenge = fun and being able to learn more from other people.

BAD GUYZ: :(
Nothing is perfect in the world, even MMOG. It's very fun and addicting, but some people give too much information to "strangers" (in MMOG, I define it as "players you don't know in real life") Some players are nice, but in one news (no I'm not joking at all, I actually read news), a girl died for meeting up with a "stranger" in a park.
