Who finds that Magicians seem to lvl slower than every1 else w/o a party because of the wait for spells to recharge. I played it for days killing stronger things, got 2 lvl 17 then i seemed to get nowhere because i got about 20 xp every minute waiting for spells when i needed 5k to lvl

You need to time your spells correctly. Some spells have a really short cool down time compared to other spells. Magic Missle for instance is the fastest out of the four. By empowering Magic Missle to decrease the cool down time even more, you can send out the spell quite frequently without having to wait. I suggest using spells in certain orders like...

Long Cooldown time to Short:

Ice Bolt -> Fire Bolt -> Magic Missle -> Run a bit -> Magic Missle -> Fire Bolt if necessary -> Magic Missle if necessary again.

Short Cooldown time to long:

Magic Missle -> Fire Bolt -> Ice Bolt or Lightning -> Magic Missle -> etc.

I'd say the most important spells would be magic missle and fire bolt because mages will need to kite if they're fighting against difficult monsters. Those spells can give good damage in a short period of time. I suggest you to empower your magic missle so that its cooldown time is at its highest level, and your fire bolt to its highest basic level so you increase its power. Fire Bolt gets the most advantage through raising its level because I believe it gives you like +22 DMG with the first level and so on.

It's best to know what kind of monster you're fighting as well so you know what spells to use and how many of them to cast. If you keep timing the spells right, you'll be able to kill monsters fairly quickly.

The downside is that you may lose a lot of HP or SP while you do that, so you should rest or use stones/potions. Scrolls will help a LOT. I suggest using the Vitality and Shield/Physical Defense scrolls because they really water down the hits you take.

The power/aim scroll doesn't help at all from my experience so I wouldn't bother with it.

Mages can do fairly well without parties, but it helps to be in one. Just keep working at it and find a routine that best fits you and your build ^^
