+1/+2/+3/+xxxxx question

umm sorry for making so many posts . i am really trying to search all i can...
what is the point of the +xxx equipment..

what is the purpose if half the time i see a regular item and the same item with +1... that does the same thing.... the only difference is it says +1...
some one help??

Each + is an additional 2 defence or attack on a weapon.
I know that it is up to +3,more + might give more defence
so if armor A normal has 10 defence
if it is +2 it has 14 defence,so if armor A was +2 ap6
it would have 14+6 defence(20)
