Wheres the best place for a 19 mage to grind/quest between KQ's?

Other than Mara KQ, you can start out with Pirates like Pirate Sailor/Elite in Sea of Greed. Try to get use to surviving when dealing with aggressive monsters.

Because of the most recent update, you are able to level from 1-30 by JUST QUESTING. Do your quests, and you will level up.
To save you some time once you get to level 30, still do your quests, but when your quests are finished, fight the mobs that the quest had you fight.

what i do is go on quest runs like i do most or all of the quest and gain a few lvls.

just quest for level 1-30.. easy... but find a cleric friend =\

Exactly what all the above said. The 1 - 29 quests get you to 30 easily, after that you'll discover the magic of the Abyss fields, which gain you a great amount of EXP when grinding, or duoing with a cleric. About x5+ the EXP gets stale in Abyss, so then it's off to the local yellow mobs for you. You can even do red mobs if you have a higher level tank and a cleric with you while you DD from afar. Get some good friends and a nice guild in Fiesta and they'll show you the path. Good luck. :)
