This is a question aimed primarily at Outspark's development team, but players are free to respond as well.
I know spamming is an inevitable part of any online game. With dozens of competing gamer dormitories throughout China offering powerleveling and gold selling services, it's impossible not to see any of it. But what troubles me is that every time I log into Fiesta, I get about five whispers right off the back from spambots and general chat is flooded with it.
I propose a couple of solutions.
1. Limit the amount of times you can say something in the same channel over a set duration of time. Another MMORPG called <removed> will start decreasing your stamina and energy if you repeatedly use the general channel too often within a short duration of time. Other MMOs will dispense a penalty on spamming players which will disable that channel function for a certain amount of time.
This will encourage more frequent use of Guild, Party, and Whisper channels, perhaps even the community tab. Less spamming will occur. Even if spammers create alternate accounts, they can only create so many. If there is a time penalty imposed preventing spammers from talking in general for a certain amount of time (heck, you can even implement a warning before the penalty is imposed) then players will have to create multiple accounts to keep spamming, which Outspark will be able to detect far more quickly than if the user creates and deletes characters on the same account, especially if the channel ban occurs across all characters on the same account.
Alternatively, Outspark can give players a word filter option that enables players to screen such words or phrases as "cheap gold", "powerleveling", or even URL website addresses, thus auto-ignoring these horrible spambots.
Do either of these seem like real options?
