No, actually I think that the BEST way to make money is by vendoring off Materials, Scrolls, and Stones. But unfortunately due to the poor economy you won't make much right now. Later on, maybe in a week or two, you might start rolling in Silvers very easily.
As of right now, I have roughly 8silver...Which isn't alot..but I guess since everyones pretty poor that makes me pretty rich XD....I would advise that you sell your materials that you won't be using for production to the NPC and do ALL YOUR QUEST. I know..25c from 1 quest doesnt seem like alot, but it all adds up in the end. The higher level you become the more copper you will get for missions, so always do them, ESPECIALLY the quests that are repeatable.
If you aren't a cleric, I suggest that you find a cleric buddy XD, they can help heal you while you tank, this way you BOTH save money and not have to buy the expensive HP STONES. I usually party with a cleric and in return for him healing me, I give him my SP potions.
If you are more of a SOLO type, then you will defintely use more money on HP stones...But try to use LESS HP stones and use more Potions since monsters drop potions here and there. SP stones arent TOO expensive, like half the price of HP stones, so don't worry about not using them, go right ahead.
THe best place, for me that I've made profit from is from selling YELLOW materials to NPC, which they pay you like 50c-60c each. If you're looking for a good place to grind for Dusts go to Sea of Greed and fight the pirates, they drop ALOT of dust and even YELLOW dust.

Start a casino next to one of the town smith's and take bets on whether an item will upgrade, downgrade, or break everytime you spin the wheel.
Suggested Odds:
Upgrade -*7 to 1 against
Downgrade -*5 to 1 for
Break - 3 to 1 for

Start a guild of high lvl characters, call it "The Syndicate Guild,"* and sell protection to the other guilds.
For example, you could have a lvl 50 Fighter named GuideTheAx say to a guild leader:* "Nice little guild you have here.* It would be a pity if anything should happen to it, if you know what I mean.* Heh, heh."
