Racˇism
Pronunciation: \ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-\
Function: noun

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
3 : the practice of racial discrimination, segregation, etc. -rac'ist n. adj.

I just wanted to make sure everyone knows what "racism" means. I have not been a target of racism on Teva but i know some of my friends have (who will not be named). I have seen how the abuse had affected and hurt them, and they have a reason to be angry. I dont want to be a Fiesta cop and say how you should stop but all i want to say is that being racist is one of the most horrible ways of insulting someone and to find it on Teva shocks me. Please have some common sence not to hurt someone with this act. I will say again, Fiesta Online is a game and most of the time you spend on the game should be grinding on slimes, orcs and trumpies not, discussing which ethnicity you hate the most.

Thank you,

That was a bit uncalled for.

I don't care if you were joking or not, racism is not something to joke about. You can't just say something and then go back and say something that contradicts what you said, and be all "Oh I was just kidding! ^^;"

It's not how it works.

If you want to support the OP, making a comment like that is not supporting.

This oughta be exciting :)

anyways...

People please treat people that you wish to be treated... ok?

(Trust me I've been there... certain people in this wicked world call me a person from a country similar to my real country... It's pretty annoying... next thing you now... I just block them from my friends' list :):P)

I was going to saw what Yosei said... but she beat me to it. :( Anyway, when someone says something like, 'That white person' or, 'That black person' (doesn't really matter), many people mistake it for racism. It's just saying what you observe. Nothing bad is being said about that certain race. And maybe some of you haven't experienced that, but I know I have. >.<

But yeah, I agree with Kissing. :)

Oh yeah, even though I haven't experienced much of this while playing Fiesta, saying bad things about religion is just as bad. :|

Discrimination in General towards someone over race, ethnicity, skin tone, or religion is a dispicable act. It's one that leaves a slew of hurt feelings and angry people.

Racism is a part of life and humanity. To be shocked and outraged by it is naive and illogical. To get hurt and upset by it is also illogical and a waste of time and energy. It's not contributing to anything useful nor is it un-saying what was said. You can't change what was done or said. getting upset over it is futile. I know that's going to p1ss people off, but it's the truth.

Is getting angry at it undoing what was done? Is it helping you in any way to get on with life? No. All it is doing is elevating your blood pressure, speeding up your heart rate, and grinding minutes off of your life. Ignorant statements are not worth fretting over. See it for what it is, report it, and move on with life.

I'm glad I didn't have to type out an essay to explain my thoughts.

Seriously. If you have a problem with someone who's being racist, simply screenshot, send to Fiesta_Help, and wait to be helped by the GM's. Racism should not be tolerated at all.

If you don't do something about it, don't complain; it only makes it a bigger problem to deal with (i.e. unnecessary drama).

Yup, always has always will be.... just ignore it, plus they have a Block button for a reason

Racism is a fact of life that must be lived with no matter what is done about it. I have had friends on different color and language... I also have had past family in the KKK.... does not mean im racist just because a family member chose to follow that path... I have been discriminated against also... nothing really bothered me about it... only time iv been truly upset over someones actions is when i had a shotgun pulled on me...

Like I always say if people would stop letting little things get to them... The world would be better off. Yes, I consider racism to be a little thing being it is a DAILY OCCURRENCE ALL OVER THE WORLD!

that is all i feel like typing at the moment...

You can't control whether or not it offends people. The best thing to do is to try and stop it, not ignore it and hope people aren't offended. I'm personally not offended by it, and I would love if other people could just ignore it, but not everyone can.

It is a funny thing when I am playing this game I see all people I talk to as people. Yep, I never think of them as being a different colour or nationality. Colour is skin deep, it is merely there to hold the inner body in place, we all bleed red blood, and we are all humans.

I do have to wonder though if all the forum threads on this type of discrimination against Oligarchy guild and its guild members isnt what actually causes the discrimination to happen. I check forums a few times a day and it seems every day there is a new thread about some supposed insult or unjustness done to them.

Sometimes being quiet is the best form of defense and the fastest way to stopping these incidences from happening.

Religion is also not racism.

Not all countries have one race, so I don't consider discrimination a country racism.

But yeah.. when on the internet, race shouldn't matter(well, it shouldn't matter ever). On the game, all we see is our little pixelated characters whom are all obviously the same "race".

As you move through life, you develop a sense of perspective. Here is my perspective on the issue:

One or a few incidents of people calling you a racially suggestive name isn't worth worrying over. At any given moment, several people are being called similar things in the real world. that's doesn't make it okay, but it does demonstrate the futility of combating racial comments. Report them and move on rather than dwelling on something you cannot control.

Now, if a group of people are training, KSing, harassing, or killing you in PvP zones consistently over a period of time because you are of a certain race, THAT is significant. That is worth your attention. Tell us about THAT stuff. Complaining about name calling is immature. That's like crying to the police because someone called you a bad word. What can they do about it? The GM's are too busy to chase down every last person who uses poor discretion in what they say. Sure they can bust repeat offenders, or people who do it while they are in the area; but they are too busy to hunt people down ex post facto. That's why I say ignore it. Now, if it's something similar to cyber hate crimes, that's worth pursuing. But a few isolated incidents? Just report it and go on.

@Lythari: I agree with you 100%. I mean for example there are neo N@zis out there screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs through a microphone in front hundreds of people and they can't get arrested for it. They say racial things and stir up a crowd but they are protected by the freedom of speech as being a citizen of the United States. So long as they don't physically prosecute or torture or hurt anyone they are entitled to their opinions and views. However if they should decide to take things a step further they will pay for their actions.

Now I agree with Lythari because it is best not to keep a name calling or general stereotype thrown your way at heart. The thing is that is it not worth getting angry over it because it will happen regardless at some point or not. Don't waste your energy on such things that are not worth while. Now on the other hand if there was a guild that keeps waring, KSing, verbally and continually insulting you guys now that's a problem big enough to deal with. That is when you take affirmative action to secure your safety. I am not saying it is a bad thing to always keep your walls and catapult up. The thing is if you constantly live in that mind set that everyone is out to get you when something is said towards what kind of person you are, you will live a life not fulfilled or live a life being just judgmental as the ones judging you.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

@artboi: Now not to rat on you or disrespect the human race (after all I am a human) but people are idiots, the human race are created naive. We may think we are the smartest species because we built huge things and write huge words but the truth of the matter is we took forever to evolve to what we are now and we continue to learn new things the minute we are born. We are constantly educated but just look at the world today. Even after all the bitter history and two world war we are still continually eating at one another. If we don't kill one another off some big natural phenomenon will. We keep dogs as our pets because they please us and do little tricks and lick our cheeks and stay by our side. We like things who can identify with us and what is a better pet than having a dog understanding us and playing to our needs. Now we have pigs which can be just as smart as dogs but yet we eat them and slaughter them for meat because they don't do tricks they don't lick our faces and they don't identify with us. Think on it.

Now back on track. You didn't bring your culture into the game? You did speak in a different language didn't you? As soon as you let them identify who you are that is when you receive those kind of comments. You also said you were speaking in a different language in normal chat... refer to what I've just said, you really think someone wouldn't crack a joke your way or say something to upset you? I didn't think so...

As quoted from AHX, "Hate is baggage. Life is too short to be angry all the time".

I have a anger management book that I can recommend you getting or anyone who is interested. It is only 20 bucks and it gives great tips for dummies like you and me. To understand why we get angry and to control our anger of little things that won't matter if we do get flared up or if we don't.

I sort of have to say all this, just my thoughts.

Ok i noticed something. And its not really my say but umm, 24, Everytime racism gets brought up you post. Anyway people won't go saying a racist comment for no reason. You know they could be saying that because your not speaking the main language of this game. When you speak language [x] that there shows you are said race[Y]
[Y=any race that speaks language [x]]

Anyway, Umm When you speak your language people assume your race. But when you get offended that there tells them that is your race. And they will keep going on and on.

Everytime someone tries to make a racist comment(jokingly or not) to me i say i am a different race. I think throughout fiesta since i started playing i have said i am every race. Unless what they say about your race is true you shouldn't be offended.

Now Its funny how u say 24 that you never brought ur culture up. Because on a thread/poll i created you posted "so for what i read in your conclusion... you basicly want for the Non-Americans to hide their culture? haha give me break"

NOw if you disagree here is the thread. http://outspark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93684&page=2

Now the thread i created was to stop the racist comments. If you didnt' give anyone a clue to your race. no racist comments can be made.

Now if you could please. Stop bringing old instances to these posts. Everytime you post about how ur treated you bring up something that happened in teh past instead of letting people forget.

*Sigh...*
Gravvi explain me one thing... Why i should hide who i am and what is my race and culture?
Just because i am afraid of some comments about my skin color or language i use?... forgive me but i am immune for such things.
Beside what we need now is LEARN TO BE TOLERANCE over other races, languages and cultures and not undertaken stance "Because i am <insert here your race> i am soo perfect and others are nothing and they should obey me unquestionable and do what i find is correct."
But that would not work and in history is so many <and still are in many parts of the world> examples where such stance can lead.
World is not perfect because we all made our stance toward other cultures and races based at rumors, gossips and stereotypes.
I heard once a comment "I am not racist and i like Muslims but i will never agree that my child will marry a Muslim" so in other word that person was racist but he will never accept that fact.
Furthermore racism is something what is based at long time development of community where we are born and many racial stances have thier roots deep in the past not short time chose<ok today i will be a racist and tomorrow not> but we have choice if we want to follow of that road.
Like i say in one of my posts in language thread i do not have problems whit people speaking in different languages because first of all i try to do everything what i can to not give them a reason for any bad comments about me.
I do not known if my post have any sense but that is just my point of view at this very complex problem for witch do not egsist simple solution...

I'm keeping an eye on this thread.

Race shouldn't be an issue in this game at all. We cannot see each other, so it really shouldn't matter. Race, language, and culture don't necessarily go together, although they can. Unless someones called you a racial slur, or referred to your race, it really isn't racism. You can think it is, you can swear to w/e your holy being is that someone is being racist to you, but if a race(or racial slur) isn't mentioned, it technically isn't. Someone having a problem with you speaking a certain language in-game is not racism, nor discrimination to your culture, and nor is it diluting it or asking you to conform to others. Someone can be Japanese, speaking English, but are they still Japanese? Yes. Will they always be Japanese? Yes. Can they speak English and still be in touch with their heritage? Of course.

Everyone accepting everyone else's cultural differences is utterly impossible. Its gotten better in most developed nations, but it is still out there, and it always will be. Its others beliefs, and who are we to dictate what they believe? Like Jeri mentioned, a certain group of people, and their belief. To many.. it's wrong, but to them it is right. No one is wrong or right, just different, and as long as they aren't doing anything illegal, nothing can be done about it.

Same as in-game, they can choose to dislike a certain race group, no one can stop that. But as long as they don't mention a race or make a racial slur, it isn't racism.

I'd like to not hear anymore of Gravvi's thread. It was closed for a reason, the discussion has ended, and I'd like it to stay that way. Like I said, I am watching this thread.

I think you all need to watch the movie 'Crash'. Assuming you are over the age of 18. If not, you should watch it with your parents after they have seen it so that they can omit certain parts. It really puts this issue into perspective.

Now Yosei's post is what my post meant. Its an MMO. But people do assume things. You shouldn't bring your race into an internet game. But by speaking a different language you bring your culture into the game and set yourself up for being ridiculed.

Like I said, I am watching this thread.

maybe you should bookmark it :p

I am proud who i am and from where i come and i do not see any reasons to hide my heritage in Fiesta or ANY other MMO.
If someone will make any sort of comments about me or my country without really known subiect about he/she speak then all what i can feel is pity for that person and that is all...

Like Yosei said. It shouldn't come up in the game ever. You can be proud of yourself and where ur from. YOu should hide it to end racism. How many times do i have to say it. If noone knows ur race they can't make a racial comment.

Sigh... i give up because i do not known how other arguments i should use to prove that your point of view at this matter is wrong.
But i do not intend to hide who i am just because some hypotetical racial comment directed at me.
And even so then i can give such person a good advice.
Use the internet and accually learn something about my country and culture.

I actually agree more with KateeHellen. She's right, why should I hide my race? It isn't something to be ashamed of. If I shouted out loud my race, and people tease me for it, that's more MY fault, cause I'd have known that something might have happened. After all, it's the world wide web, people can be harsh and rude...like the real world.

Racism is still here everywhere, and even if you are trying to avoid being racist yourself, at some point of your life I'm SURE that you will make some kind of racist comment. That is because people can't help but see the difference in others. But that is a good thing. Appreciate that, appreciate that you're different from the billions of others in the world.

If a group of people (race) share something that they know in common, why can't they express it in game? Personally, I don't care if they talk in a different language in game, or anything.

Now, when someone discriminates against a race, that's what makes me kinda p/o'd. It isn't funny either. But people still do it. There is NO way to stop it....it's how people are. Maybe it's a sign of weakness, or the urge in us to diss someone.

Yeah, okay so the first step to solving racism is not to be racist yourself? Okay, I agree. Treat others how you want to be treated right?

Don't make fun of other races, but don't be afraid to show that you are someone unique and important. Why do you think there are so many guilds on Fiesta that are country based? They all have something in common, and it makes them bond together :)

Oooooh boy THAT was prolly the longest post I posted on here, and I actually sounded mature O.o *freaks out*

I don't think I remember what I just typed....AaAaAaAH!!

Please i told her that i don't want to talk to any oligarchy members. so that includes you and what i PM her is between me and her and I stopped. SO please don't direct anything like that toward me again.

@ katee

I understand that u don't care if people make fun of you because of your race. But apparently People like Kissing cares. And honestly if noone brought their culture into a place where its easy to make a racial comment then no comments will be made. Now like alot of people have said. You can be proud of your race and culture without bringing it into a game that has nothing to do with different cultures and races. There is no reason for a culture to be brought into a game. Because what it does is bring racism. I am proud of my culture but i don't go around letting people know my race because i could be discriminated against if they knew. So bringing any culture into the game is what is causing IG racism.

See my comment to Katee. But as for the country based guilds. I dont' know of any anymore. They don't go around shouting where they are from. Now what you said I do agree with. If you shout out your culture and you get racial comments that is your fault. But thats what some people on fiesta do not see. They let their culture be known and now they get mad when people make a comment on it.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I did not say they should hide their heritage, language, or race. But it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm going to close this thread for now. People seem to be getting upset over this discussion and I do not want flames to break out.
