Try messaging Fiesta_Help. My first name was Lilphaka, I had it for about 6 months and never thought it was bad until a GM pointed it out. It was changed sometime in February, but I had a choice and I got to choose a new one. Sometimes what we first think is good can be bad. I asked some friends before messaging a GM though, so I could understand why. I know it might seem mean, but they had to have had a good reason for the change, but like I said message Fiesta_Help.

Hoochi? Ya, I can't understand why that'd be offensive either but I'd contact support@outspark.com, not fiesta_help. Perhaps a CSR can shed some light on this.

Yeah, seriously, what gives? Hoochi is in no way offensive; it's not even spelled "Hoochie". Even back in 1954, arguably one of America's most conservative decades, Muddy Waters released "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man" and he never get censored. And what about "Turner and Hooch?" Yeah, I'd fight this one to the death...
... or ask they rename you to HooChiMinh.
LOL
Ah, but I crack myself up sometimes...

Could be mistaken as Hoochie:
slang : a sexually promiscuous young woman
Basically naming yourself a wh*re - which I'm sure is unacceptable by 'their' terms. I don't have a problem with the name, but it isn't my decision. Just pointing it out. ;D
Just think about it, they censor clam.

Seriously? Not one of you can understand how that could be thought of as offensive? Really I don't care cause there are far worse things you could name your character, but so you know, "hoochi" can be used as deragatory term for a woman who hangs around a dude scantily dressed (basically a different name for a mistress or a gold digger or numerous other things) Now whether irl or wherever you have been called this is up to you, but Outspark does have an obligation to screen offensive names. Now as to why it took so long for them to change it is that most likely someone recently reported your name as being offensive to them, so Outspark took action whereas without someone complaining they proly don't have the man-power to scan every character's name especially with constant remakes etc. As for a solution do as Serric said XD
EDIT: I type too slow, Nerria beat me to it XD

I never thought Hoochi is offensive, how could this be? And why would it be anyway for that matter, and there are a few songs out on the radio and they never indeed get censored. I used to have a dog named Hooch. Well, like the CL said, perhaps someone can shed some light on this for us, if not, I found that name wrongfully accused of being offensive. Seriously.
EDIT: I type slow too, so not to worry ;)

Most people probably wouldn't catch an alternate meaning, no less even give a damn about it, because it isn't very offensive. :p
Not like a racist name, at least.
However, if one person found it offensive and reported it (and explained how it was offensive to them) it probably got changed just for that. Because that person found it offensive, that means others 'could' and they don't want that.
LadyPerson, lol that's pretty funny to be renamed. I'm sure you'll get a free name-change given the situation, but I doubt you can get the one you want if someone reported it. Even if you've been called it for 20 years.
Not trying to be negative or a hater here, but just don't get your hopes up for 'Hoochi' after this.

I find many names are somewhat offensive. Almost every name out there can upset someone in some way. There's a DilliDo and pimp for goodness sakes. But all i know is i cant stay Ladyperson.
and yes i do have a really good new name in mind :) if they dont let me have hoochi.

I don't find it hard to believe that people didn't know hoochi(e) was offensive to some. It's slang, and some people, especially people not from the States, aren't going to know all the lingo.
And I personally thought LadyPerson was a funny substitute. Trust me, they could've given you a worse name because I know a person or 2 that had their names changed too. But yeah, like others said, if you contact a support person and explain you meant no offense by it, they can probably change it (though you probably can't change it back to Hoochi)
Edit: Lol. Wow. Now it's my turn to type too slow and Nerria said like the exact same thing as me. I'll just go ahead and add that I think the main pain with a name change is letting friends know your name changed.

To me, Hoochi is a bit on the fence. I can see why it could be taken offensively, but then again it's a bit trivial. It's really not something that people would really see as being offensive until someone pointed it out.
This game is open to many different countries and cultures. So Hoochi could mean one thing in one place, and something completely different in another. Who knows, it could be something extremely offensive in another language.
But hopefully you'll get your issue resolved by the CSR's and be able to choose something a bit more to your liking. ^^

Well now you get sort of a fresh start when the cap raises and you can move onto 80+ XD
It could have been worse though. Some people they just outright ban instead of changing their names. I think that is reserved for really offensive names.

Well, hehe, there's a lot of stuff on the radio that probably should be censored, that's not. I don't think that's a good benchmark to go by.
Could you imagine if Howard Stern set the standards for what names could be used in Fiesta:confused:
...or imagine GM Dakkon interviewed by Stern:eek:

Why would i want to. Even if it did offend me, my gosh something as trivial as that. People should just worry a lil bit about bigger issues. If it's not an outright cuss then live and let live.
The hassels i have gone through since the name change, my friends list, guild issues, and just explaining why i have a different name. Why would i want to put anyone through that?

Well I know this isnt really relevant.
But in Australia we call our rear end a bum, however other countries call it their butt. Now strangely enough the filters wont let you say butt but you can say bum :D :D
I guess what I mean by that is words in different countries have different meanings. But I agree, unless the name is downright disgusting, live and let live.

If you don't report them then don't complain that they exist, simple as that.
It's like complaining about perverts but don't report one if you know one. :-/

Most people who report names do so because they want to protect kids from foul/racist/vulgar/etc things, and while it can be argued that this isn't the best way, it is one of the only ways they see, and since Outspark doesn't want to look like they don't care about the younger population, they go along to an extent.

Not really the point of the thread, and besides people will complain and do nothing about it anyway because most people believe even if they report it nothing will be done.

That's not wholly accurate.... when improper names are reported to me, I make sure they are sent to the appropriate personnel.
What we need to do is draw a line... what is offensive/vulgar and what isn't? Trust me, I've seen some pretty bad ones.... which is why I posted an announcement a month or so back encouraging users to report the names both in solstice and fiesta.
Now, although Ryo’s point may be a little blunt, she has a valid point: complaining about a problem doesn’t solve it. You must be willing to be an active part of the resolution.
Back to the main topic… and this is purely conjecture on my part here, but I don’t think ‘Hoochi’ or even ‘Hoochie’ is all that bad. If we go back to the origin of the word, it does have something to do with ‘ladies of the night’ but in an indirect way. It’s actually making a reference to the thatched hut of Southeastern Asia, made popular only by the Korean war when it was referred to as a house of ill repute. This also gave rise to the American term “Hoochie mama”.
So, although I can see a connection I am not comfortable in labeling it as truly offensive. If there is an argument that it refers to a part of the human anatomy I am unfamiliar with that useage.

I used to hang out on the WoW CS Forum. One day we had a hunter come in complaining of a name change. A dwarven hunter, who specialized in guns.
His name was Skeet.
Having just recently been out skeet shooting with my cousins, that was a major *** to me. After all, what could be offensive about a clay target? I thought it was a clever play on the hunter's gun specialty.
Now, "hoochie," I vaguely remember being thrown around many years ago.. haven't heard it since junior high.

Hoochie is a name that some people use directed towards females also "Hoochie-mama"
noun
1. a promiscuous female, prostitute. Also hooch and hoochie mama
That might be why they finally removed it (though I can understand why Lilphaka was removed... ^^)

Hee hee, I find the issue with certain names whether it is tolerated or deemed offense is based on the perception of an individual. The meaning of the word changes with the time. For example, going back a few decades derogatory words for a law enforcement officer would be called "fuzz" (more to do with the type of hairstyles they wore at that time) and more recently they are called "pigs" (more due to the stereotype that they like to eat doughnuts). Either word can be deemed derogatory by itself. Sometimes I feel you have to look at the context of how a word is used and try to analyze if their is intent to use the word to defame others.
Real life example, A long long time ago in my first Multi User Dungeon online game I made female character named "Littleone" that roleplayed a maid cleaning up things and became a chatter bug in town but the secretly I am a lord's assassin and I do clean up after his messes in one form or another. I went upon my merry way having fun and making new acquainances for over a year. One day a GM told me someone reported my name as being offensive and I had change my name or face deletion. The only explanation I received what that my name could be interpreted as the part of the male anatomy... oh my goodness, It is truly rare to find an individual that would possible think I would name myself after a small Pee Pee T^T...
Anyways, do not let names get to you, I am sure if you meet enough people with different values, even the word "happy" can be deemed offensive as it can be inferred as being a homosexual. Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me... well maybe a little bit :P.
